Xbox 360 E74 Error

My son's Xbox is displaying an E74 error. This is covered on an extended warranty. Problem is I bought it second hand so don't know if still in warranty. Secondly, it has been modded so not sure Microsoft would touch it anyway.

 

I have googled and saw some sites advising to wrap it in towels to overheat which seems to remedy it. Was wondering if anyone else has had thus error and how they fixed it?

If its modded microsoft wont touch it and if you play online youll get banned aswell

Sometimes overheating it works,othertimes it doesnt.Check out youtube for videos

Even if it hadn't been modded, MS wouldn't touch it as you're not the original owner.

 

My advise would be try to repair it yourself.

I wouldn't advise putting a towel round it as whlist your overheating it there is a chance you could blow something else.

 

If you are capable of taking the xbox case off you can re-seat the chip yourself.

 

Do a google for the RROD kit and the X-Clamp fix - should not set you back too much.
