Just had a watch of the Preston/West Brom game from the Championship (finished 0-0) and I was made up to see Neil Mellor leading the line for North End. He's scored five goals in seven league games and is really on fire at the minute which is great to see.

I always liked him when he played for us and now he seems to be fulfilling the potential he had at Anfield. He's turned into a hard working, ball winning centre forward who is brave, strong and direct. The fans seem to like him and he seems really settled there. Good on him I say, hope he can return to the Premiership soon.

He is a decent player but I think his absence from the top flight for so long wont earn him a move...he was injured for spells too in the championship. I saw play for Preston v Hibs a few years back and you could see had a great apprentiship at Melwood. He was building a bit of cult hero status with us under Rafa. His goals v Olympiacus on that famous night and the winner agains the best arsenal side ever are great memories

The fact he's retired might be a bigger obstacle to him earning a move

Just goes to show what little patience we have with young players. We want them to turn into accomplished players by age 20/ 21 and if they don't are out asap. A case in point is Ince, who according to rumour, we're trying to buy back for 5/6 mil just a year after we let him go for a small fraction of that. Makes me wonder sometimes if we have anybody in charge.
