Klopp: It makes no sense to add more players to the squad

Jurgen Klopp has given his clearest indication yet that he is more than satisfied with the squad at his disposal and is unlikely to delve into the transfer market before the window closes.

In terms of incoming players the Reds have been very quiet, only adding young French central defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

However Liverpool have been buoyed by the return to full fitness of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain while Harvey Elliott has displayed his blossoming talent throughout the pre-season.

While the loss of Andy Robertson with ankle ligament damage was a undoubted setback, Kostas Tsimikas is another player who has impressed of late and after a frustrating first season at the club the former Olympiakos man will be looking to make a real impression.

Throughout the summer Liverpool have been frequently linked to Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and Renato Sanches from Lille, while PSV striker Donyell Malen looked a possibility before signing with Borussia Dortmund.

Throughout his tenure, Klopp has been staunch in his support for players that he has at his disposal.

He is a manager that would rather see them succeed no matter how long it takes, than be someone who turns over his squad in a frequent fashion.

In the last few seasons that sense of loyalty has been rewarded with the club winning numerous honours on the domestic, European and global stage.

While some pundits openly question whether Liverpool still has what it takes to challenge, Klopp is in no doubt as he told  Danish network TV2 (via The Mail).

“Let's go through the squad. Do you want to buy a new full back? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there.

“In midfield, we have players with a lot of experience, such as Thiago, Fabinho, (Jordan) Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

'In addition, we have exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones. In the attack, we have Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi.

While the other clubs that made the top four last season have forked out vast sums of money for reinforcements, Klopp is adamant that the need was not there for Liverpool at this point of time.

“If you want to buy such (top-class) players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here.

“You have to make changes from time to time, but then there must be room to do it. We do not want more players. If something happens somewhere, something can happen somewhere else, but it makes no sense to add more players.”

I see we've arrived at the annual TLW foam party.

Klopp's fuming, he's ready to leave because he can't have money etc

Unlike many on here, Klopp is a fully functioning adult who understands the realities of managing LFC before he took the job - he won't be screaming blue murder and throwing his toys out of the pram, he'll be busy planning for the season.  There's no danger of Klopp leaving in a huff because he can't replace Origi.  He's a grown up for fuck's sake.

The only one in a huff is you lad.

He seems to prefer to work with a tight squad and doesn't seem to like too many players hanging around not playing regularly , so no real surprises he is looking at a one in - one out system.

Talking sense as always Roger. He said it was very difficult to keep 4 very good centre backs happy the season before Degsy left. He doesnt like big squads.

I think areas we need to improve is scoring from dead ball situations around the box and corners. Trent takes all our free kicks in such areas but last season many of them flew over the bar never mind made the keeper work. van Dijk, Matip and Gomez dont score enough from corners either in my opinion.

Jurgen comes out and says what he does and some folk are still unhappy at it all.

I feel for our fringe players tbh.

With the ressies (correctly) being used as a vehicle to educate our kids it means that when our fringe players do get a chance then they don't look sharp. No game time anywhere, no minutes in their legs.

Bring back the Central League, I say!

Yes, it's a good point. Although you can play upto 3 over age players in the U23s, Id expect our fringe squad players see it as beneath them to turn out for the U23s and knock off a bit of rustiness?

Imagine a player got injured in a U23 game though.

People went mental that Jota played in a dead rubber CL game and got injured despite it being the type of game he should be playing in as a rotational player.

This is the only part of that interview that matters, and it's been obvious since it was established that we need to sell for 3 reasons:

1 we have too many forgeiners (transfer committee)

2 we have a growing wage bill and no additional investment to cover it (FSG)

3 we don't want more than 2 established players for each position (Klopp)

It doesn't matter which is more prevalent, the fact is they work as a group, and that's how they want to work.

He wasn't a rotational player then. He'd just about got Bobby out the team. Salah also started. It was mental.

they think it's a conspiracy and Jurgen is forced to say all of these things even if he doesn't believe them.  Because he was taken in by lots of false promises and the nasty owners hoodwinked him and they're really despicable human beings who have taken his dreams away.

Matip is awful at them. Pretty sure VvD scored the most golas of any defender in the title season.

Matip has scored a couple from corners. I remember the charity shield plus at least one other last season.

On that subject has Gomez ever scored for us?

People read too much into Klopp's every word without taking into account he needs to toe the party line to an extent, keep his cards close to his chest and maintain existing squad morale. OK he's not one to lie but he is also not one to be vague and leave cryptic hints.

He is shite at them - more likely it hits his shoulder than the target.

Dont agree with you about him tippy toeing the party line. He didnt hold back over the Euro League which was very much Henry's ownership.

So he needs more than a couple to be not shite? That Robertson fella is shocking then!

Yes, he does.

And you are correct - Robertson's finishing is abysmal - by far the worst part of his game.

What did you make of his response to the Super league?

That he was vehemently against it, wasnt happy the club sprung it on him unannounced and expect him to field questions on the club's behalf about it.
