Ibe sounder than a pound (Sterling), says Reds legend

Former Reds striker John Aldridge says Liverpool need to sell Raheem Sterling as soon as possible, and suggests that in Jordon Ibe they already have a superior replacement.

“I think Brendan Rodgers should let Raheem Sterling leave for Manchester City now,” he told Kicca. “The sooner he leaves the better for all involved. All this transfer talk is making a mockery of Liverpool Football Club.”

Sterling seems almost certain to leave Anfield this summer and it appears the Reds have already spent a chunk of the expected fee on Brazilian Roberto Firmino, but Aldridge says Sterling’s natural successor is already at the club.

“Raheem is obviously a hugely talented player but Liverpool have a top replacement in Jordan Ibe. I’ve been watching Jordan play since he was 15. He’s a terrific player and has bags of potential.

“In fact I think he’s got as much if not more potential than Raheem and will go on to be a better player. On top of that, he’s a big strong lad who is very direct with a great shot on him.”

Ibe has made a promising start to life in Liverpool’s first team and was one of the few bright spots last season, but he is yet to find the net and will need to address that if he's to make the same sort of contribution as Sterling, who is good for around a dozen goals a season. Even at youth level Ibe has never been a prolific scorer and it's clearly an area the teenager is looking to improve as this summer he reported back to training early in order to get some extra work in on his finishing with Kenny Dalglish and Alex Inglethorpe.

Sterling had a very on/off season, but he's done enough over the past 2-3 years to warrant being classified as one of the top young footballers in Europe. Ibe is a very promising young player, but his levels of achievement are not yet anywhere near Sterling's. As such, I don't know on what basis one would class him as the better player, or who will go on to be the better player. On the available evidence, it's clearly Raheem Sterling.

I don't think either can be judged fairly just yet, certainly not Ibe.

Ibe seems to have the strength and hopefully attitude to go on to be a good player. I suppose Sterling is one of the up and coming players in Europe, but I think that says more about the state of European football than it does about him.

You only have to look at the England team, it's by far the worst I've ever seen. Bearing in mind England had so many decent players a few years ago it could field B teams that would have given this lot a run for their money.

Sterling probably is one of the best young players in England, but he's still far from a great player.

Wow. How many players were shite game in and game out and never lost their place?

Not tryna take away from the lad but think people are building expectations on ibe partly due to sterlings actions, i think they should stop being compared and see how he does next year with no pressure on him unduly.

Wise words.

He's always mentioned alongside Sterling which is a bit silly really and not fair on either.

Both are completely different types of players so should be treated as such.

I hate them both by the way.

The comparison is inevitable unfortunately, and if he couldn't cope with it, then he's not cut out to play the club.

Young, pacey, short, wide players.

Completely different, indeed.

Ibes not short. He's stocky, which makes him seem shorter than he really is. Sterling's chocolate fountain hair style makes him seem taller than he really is. Thus when they stand next to each other they seem to be similar heights.

He's just short of 5'10

Ok, I dislike Sterling, intensely, but you can't deny that currently he's a top prospect, and a decent player. At this moment he's way ahead of Ibe in terms of experience and development.

That being said, I think that there's some problems with his game which will be very difficult to iron out, such as his shooting, physicality and decision making.

Physically Ibe is the better of the two, has a cracking shot, what seems to be a better mentality, and is more direct.

Both players are blessed with good acceleration and pace, and I think it's debatable who has a higher ceiling between the two, but Ibe could just shade it, as I believe he has the build and mentality to be the better player. Here's hoping he is.

Ibe could be our very own "Memphis Depay" they seem similar in many ways

Until he gets to Sterling's level, then realises he'll be going nowhere with us so fuck's us off.

Aldridge will then be saying what a cunt he is. He's still bitter over Torres going, regardless of Torres going down the pan, as far as winning trophies was concerned he was absolutely right.

Aldo's like the bumbling uncle in the corner at weddings now. You put a bowl of dry roasted nuts in front of him and a pint of mild and everyone stays away.

Wanting to leave isn't the issue, showing a complete lack of respect for the club is, Torres was guilty of this too.

Suarez asked to leave, we let him leave, he wanted to win things, fair play. He never refused to do his duty while he was here, and he never went on telly the night of the move and said he was glad he was finally at a big club and all that bollocks.

Torres was a shithead and Sterling is total scum.

Sterling has revealed that his relationship with Rodgers is the reason he wants to leave, not the club.

It'll be interesting to see how City handle it next time he feels tired mid-season or finds himself in court.

Sterling really is a cunt as a person, he knows some fans are against BR and is trying to shift the blame on to him.Thats a nice way to repay the guy who gave him his break in football and has helped him get in a position where he will get the money he wants now.

Sterling on Rodgers, 2013: "I can't talk any more highly of him as a person, not just as a manager. He's a top guy"

Sterling on Rodgers, 2014: "It's great to have a manager who believes in you; as a young player that is what you cry out for. I'm grateful"

I can't wait for this little prick to be gone, he's probably loving the attention but soon he will just be another name at his new club and he'll have to perform on he pitch to be talked about.

Sterling is ridiculously strong. Remember him sending kompany flying at anfield last season?

I'm applying the ex girlfriend rule. Leave me alone. She was an ugly of hag.
