PODCAST: Liverpool 4 Chelsea 1 - Match Reaction

What a night at Anfield. The Reds found the net four times, Darwin found the woodwork four times, and Conor Bradley produced a performance for the ages as the title charge continued.

Chris Smith is joined by Dan Thomas and TLW Editor Dave Usher to look back on one hell of a performance in which Bradley announced himself as a star of the present as well as the future, and Liverpool showed Todd Boehly that there's much more to building a great team than just spending more money than everyone else.

The lads also look forward to the weekend's trip to Arsenal and answer some more of your questions.

Completely get what Dave was saying re: Bradley’s performance and one that’ll always stick with you.

I know slightly different but it’s reminiscent of Rob Jones debut.

Completely fucked up my Darwin defence in this pod. I had it all planned out in my head beforehand and then talking about the penalty must have thrown me off, as I was meant to be using the header as my example but used the pen instead, which absolutely killed the point I was making.

I messaged Chris before asking why he didn't correct me and he said its because "you're always spouting shit about Darwin so I thought it was just that".

I love the afterglow of these kind of wins and performances, can't get enough of watching and hearing about them.

Soaked up so much reaction to this game since I got home last night. It's distracting me from the match report so I'm going to have to put all that on hold for now, get this finished and then wait for 'Inside Anfield' to drop.

Just delved into the pod stats a little bit. Podbean isn't as granular as some of the other platforms, but there's enough to know we're on the up.

Today is shaping-up to be our best single day ever for all-episode downloads (about 20 downloads to go in the next 90 minutes to reach that level), the vast majority of which are from an episode that didn't go up until lunchtime.

January was our best overall month ever. By a margin of several thousands of downloads.

Lots of games, lots of news, but still. Thanks guys. You've all been so supportive in interacting with us after every episode, proving great discussion points through questions and sharing with your fellow Reds.

Appreciate ya.

I absolutely love the pods, I don’t listen to any others so much like @RedSand I’m eagerly anticipating them after a game to get all the differing opinions, and I love the variety of the contributors too, that includes Jules cat and Daves postman.

The emergency Klopp pod was an absolute emotional rollercoaster for me, and by the end of it had completely changed my initial outlook of doom and gloom.

Thanks to all for the time and effort you all put in to them, for me personally it’s much appreciated, I even now want a car that I can connect to my phone just for an improved pod experience, but that would be going against my morals of “fuck cars, the expensive money pit, evil necessities”.

Do you think a point will come one day when you’re planning your usual pre-pod Darwin defence where you stop and wonder if maybe you’re having to defend him a little too regularly?

Even though I'm biased because I am a contributor, the podcast rules. It's just three or four friends talking about football. No glitz, no razzmatazz (I do appreciate the new microphone though Dave!) just a conversation you'd have in a pub with your mates.

If I have to defend him too regularly, the only conclusion to be drawn from it as is that there are lots of knobheads out there. What other conclusion can there be?

I'm sure Chris is a nice bloke in real life, but fuck me who comes across as a proper knob when bitching about Darwin.  So much for Not walking alone.
Aside from that, good pod.  Lets twat Arsenal now.

I think he's in part playing the foil for Dave, but also I'd highlight that one of the good things about the podcast is that it doesn't really suffer from the weird parasocial stuff others do.

We can discuss things with them directly on here and, while we know we don't really know any of them, we should at least recognise them as real people trying to put on a decent few hours for us to listen to. Maybe in that light, there are more constructive ways to be critical than just straight up insults...

Great a pod again. Here's a question for Dave, against arsenal we get 5 good chances all falling to Darwin or we get 2 good chances, both fall to Jota. What option you taking?

By good I mean a chance a top striker would expect to score more often than not.

@ChrisI never download, does that feed into your numbers?

Hmm dunno. I think there’s still a lot of Darwin doubters about. Especially when it comes to down to sticking the ball in the net. Dave definitely needs reining in a tad, otherwise it would just be him wetting his knickers for two hours, ffs.

Ok, mate. I take your point on board. I had a dig about Dave having to watch the pen because the Darwin goals are so rare. Again, in jest, and largely in keeping with previous back-and-forth. And we disagreed on whether the header against the bar was a sitter or not.

However…

“Darwin had some nice efforts, hit the woodwork twice, ended up being four, which is remarkable but consistent.”

”Darwin steps up to take the pen Dave… you look at how Darwin started the game. He deserved a goal, he was irresistible and it was one of his best overall performances for us. He was electric. He seemed unstoppable unless you’re a 24ft by 8ft white post. He stepped up to take the pen and I thought great, let’s get him a goal but he sends the keeper the wrong way and hits the post.”

I’m a proper knob in real life, but I think I’m pretty fair on the podcast. I try to encourage a bit of balance when hosting. Said this before but any criticism of Nunez next sounds much worse than it is when the force of nature that is Dave is on the other end of the mic. I’ve never known anyone more accomplished at getting his point in such a manner that you think “he must be right. There’s so much conviction” even when a lot of the evidence points elsewhere.

I honestly fucking love Darwin. But I’ll be a little more mindful of how it’s coming across when I’m less complimentary.
