PODCAST: Liverpool 2 Everton 0 - Match Reaction

Not a classic but three points and a relatively comfortable afternoon for the Reds as two Mo Salah goals sank Everton.

TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Paul Natton and Julian Richards to look back on yet another Anfield derby win and go through all of the major talking points.

Great listen again (though I didn't get the cultural reference around understudies...?  Was it all about Lethal Weapon...?).

We were perhaps only as good as we needed to be, but still I was really concerned about the performance of Trent which wasn't really covered.

As you mentioned, Mo was truly awful and in a just world should have been hooked.  But Trent was overhitting everything, and strutting around in a concerning way.  He needs to sharpen up.  A few more steady off-Broadway passes rather than sparkly Hollywood passes which don't make it would help.

We played well until the ball inevitably found its way to Trent or Mo, and then it went to pot.

Mac Allister played probably his best game for Liverpool, so I feel a bit of encouragement there as I'm one of the few who wasn't fully sold on him.  I want to see him in a more advanced role so we can more fairly assess him.

Anyway, Paul missed Sandy Lyle.  Surely everyone remembers Sandy Lyle from when we were kids?

If you need proof of the effect of a 1230 kickoff, look no further than their fans. They were useless. The only peep from them was a rendition of Spirit of The Blues, which was actually pretty funny. My wife down the Kop end of the Main Stand was wondering what that was all about. WOO-OO! And it's not as if the Kop was much better, Last season we got the full songbook. You Haven't Won A Trophy, Little Arms, and Divock Orig! (briefly) was as good as it got, although being 2-0 up early in the second half helped then,

One thing I would add to what you talked about was to ask how Pawson and his team missed the handball. From where I was right down by the Anfield Road endline I could see the ball hitting Keane's arm and the daylight between the arm and his torso. The officials would have had a better view of it than those watching it on telly. They were yards away and had it in 3D, for Christ's sake! Perhaps he wanted to wait until VAR checked it rather than give a penalty then have VAR overturn it, but then you get into the whole aggravating clear-and-obvious territory. The same with the Old/Konate red card debates. I think Babb'sBurstNad has it right here, that Old was already skating on thin ice when he kicked the ball away which was absolutely a yellow card offence as he did it to prevent Liverpool taking a quick throw-in which would have left him exposed. In that spirit, Konate was also skating on thin ice after the foul while on a yellow and another foul would have seen him sent off. The frustrating thing is that none of this will be discussed because PGMOL want to persist with the idea that every decision is made on its merits and won't budge from that because they're cunts, But I don't want to pick on the scab of that three-week-old wound any more. Let's just hope that was their Last Trip to Anfield and the wall pushers can do their thing for Rotherham in their shiny new stadium (© Brownie).

IMHO:

* Ashley Young is immensely stupid, 2 of the clearest yellow cards I've ever seen.

* Konate barely touched Beto so I don't know where this 'cleaned him out' bollocks is coming from. For me it would have been a stretch to give a foul never mind a yellow card.

* Clearest handball I've seen in a long time, fuck knows what the cunts are complaining about.

* We were very average and it was always going to take a pen or a free kick to break the deadlock.

* That said, at worst the shite lost 1 point, they were never going to score. And they're fucking lucky (again) that there are 4 worse teams in the league than them!

Probably didn't get the reference, he's very limited musically.

The Tarkowski booking was actually after the free kick on the edge of the box. You clearly see Pawson point to the area of the initial foul and indicate it was for his second offence.

I like the ‘spirit of the blues song’, but it should not be sung at the ground. It sounds absolutely dreadful.

That's a clear penalty. He doesn't get the ball and he catches Diaz. Funny the Blues are overlooking that as well as the fact Pawson didn't give the handball either. Yet he's made 'the list' because of one decision that could have gone either way.

There was no right or wrong there, you can give that either way and it's neither right or wrong. It's just whatever he decides to give. He had to decide if it was worthy of a yellow or not and he said it wasn't. I think he was right, but it doesn't matter as that's not the point.

They're acting like they're the victims of the great train robbery because one decision didn't go their way. Even by their standards this is lame as fuck.

Confused about the breakfast debate as I assume Dave has chips for his breakfast anyway

Well I did on Saturday. Although it was more brunch than breakfast as I'd already had toast around 9.30.

The Blue woman pundit on sky was just on about it again. ‘I’m not saying Everton would have gone on to win but…” .
We get one 50/50 big call in our favour and it’s a national disgrace.

"gone on to win" hahahahaha fucking hell. They've had three shots on target in total in their last three games at Anfield. Even getting into our half is an achievement.

"Win" hahahaha. Jesus.
