  1. Just to go off topic for a minute, I was told by my cousin, who played with Davenport in the West Cheshire League, that when Davenport signed for Forest, Clough pulled out a crate of ale in his office, and those present had a couple of beers to "celebrate" his signing. Allegedly, one of Davenports mates said to Clough, "Being honest Mr Clough, what chance has Peter got when you've got Fashanu as your first choice centre forward?" "Fashanu?" said Clough "he'll never make a centre forward as long as he's got a hole in his arse!"
  2. With regards to O'Neil, if we get him we'll have settled for mediocrity. He's at his level now with Villa and if he's got any sense he'll stay there. We need someone better than Benitez to come in if he goes or is sacked, Capello would be, I believe, ideal. I think he would get us and he commands respect from players. Failing him then a respected coach/manager to turn us around before we sink any further. Not bothered who really, as long as we stop being a laughing stock. PS, and who gets us going forwards with something resembling pass and move!!

  4. Reina Carr Hangeland Vermaelen Bale Milner Taylor Lampard Jarvis Rooney Drogba How anyone can overlook Reina is beyond me, most number of shutouts in a season where our defence has been awful at times says a lot.
  5. Manc workmate of mine came out with the "Spose you'll throw the game against Chelsea to stop us winning the League then?" line last week. "We don't throw games" I said, "as you well know from previous experience" Blank look. I had to remind him about when we beat Blackburn and they fucked up against the Hammers. "However," I said, " if we get through against Athletico on the Thursday, then i'm sure you and your manager will understand the necessity to rest some of our players as we'll be in a European Final, we will have played yet another 3 games in a week and could even have a few injuries in the game against Athletico that we don't know about yet." Cue silence.
  6. It'll be another stitch up, IF we get there.
  7. You've forgotten the most important criteria of all: * must be a boyhood Red
  8. Aye, he's done his best, of that i've no doubt. He's just not good enough, at the moment, to carry our attacking threat on his own. (Maybe we should feed him steaks as Shanks did to someone years ago!) It seems a no brainer to me that any formation we have without Torres in the team should have 2 strikers, whoever they may be, just as our midfield should be Gerrard in the centre with one other. In other words 4-4-2. 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 just doesn't work either way without Torres as the 1 up front. And never will until we buy a second top class striker who can take the weight on his own as Torres does. But, hey, i've only been watching football in general and LFC in particular since Adam was a lad, so what the fuck do I know.
  9. Top players can afford to pick who they go to, and I believe pedigree has a lot to do with who they will eventually sign for. City haven't got the pedigree yet and won't have until they qualify for the CL on a regular basis or win it in the next couple of years. That's not to say they won't attract players with the money they have, but those players will go for the money only and bail if a top club comes in for them. I think we have a couple of years in which to get ourselves back into the top 4 to see them off, or they will then begin to attract top players on a regular basis. Tottenham could possibly attract top players as they are based in London, but they may not have the finances to get the really top players.
  10. Someone else not on the list but who'll be available after the World Cup is Sven Goran Eriksson. He's taken up the Ivory Coast job for the tournament only. Just the sort that C&A will be looking for if Benitez jumps ship/is sacked by them. So be careful what you wish for!!!
  11. Not a chance. Dives too much for my liking, £10M for an average 28yr old is too much. Only plus point is it'd piss off all the bloos and Moyes as well.......probably.
  12. I hope we beat Chelsea and they go on to win the title in their last game. Spurs are good enough at the moment to get a result at old toilet next week. Although they are notoroius for bottling it against the mancs.
  13. Absolutely right. And therein lies why I won't be whoopy-doing until I see WHO ends up owning us. If there's an LFC loving multi-billionaire out there who's happy to leave the Club to be run by LFC loving professional people then i'm sure we'll all be for it. The reality is we'll be extremely lucky if that happens, although I don't believe we could be so unlucky to have the debacle we've had for the last 3 years either.
  14. Went today, with Mrs CP, the Club and the Families got this just right, as usual. The players came in and passed right by us, on the way out I would say several of them looked affected by what they'd seen. Margaret Aspinall was an absolute star, told it just as it is. "We are the eyes, ears and voice of the 96". Exactly this. God Bless them all.
  15. Some worthy points, but let's face it, no manc can be objective when talking about us and vice-versa.
  16. I want us to win our remaining games and for united NOT to win the title. Simples!
  17. It could all still turn out to be smoke and mirrors. I won't believe anything until our new owners are unveiled at a press conference with their LFC scarfs and professing their undying love for the club and all it stands for. Then i'll wait and see how they perform. Once bitten and all that........
  18. I think if we were to rest him and enable him to play for Spain in the World Cup, assuming that's what he wanted, then so be it. It might make him want to stay here a bit longer and i'm all for that.
  19. I know it's very sad to say it, but should united fail to win the title (and even if we don't go on to win the Europa League) them failing to get no19 and a CL win would at least make this season semi-bearable for me. To be able to then watch the two big finals of the season, the CL and FA Cup without a care in the world and then hopefully see some magic in the World Cup, well it is better than I could have reasonably hoped for even a couple of weeks ago. Then regardless of who owns, manages or ends up playing for the club, we go again in August, because we'll be here whatever.
  20. If he is a Chelsea fan then: Liverpool, The Nation's Favorite Fag Carrier.
  21. Have we ever had a regular first team player that we sent out on loan first? Our loanees appear to disappear (see what I did there!) once they go out on loan, never to be seen in a red shirt again. Well, an LFC shirt anyway. Or am I wrong?
