  1. The floppy faced Churchillian (the dog) fucker has broken from his normal MO. Usually he gets one of his Fleet Street pals to bring up a name "that he's been linked with in the press," then wax lyrical about him and what a quality addition he'd be before declaring "but he's under contract with x so you'll have to ask them." Fucking spiv.
  2. He really is a vicious little bastard. Good player, but he's been at the "clumsy" tackles for so long he'd have either improved this side of his game, or cut it out if he wanted to. He and his manager know he's bulletproof, so he's never reined it in. Diplomatic immunity.
  3. I hate Koscielny. But that's partially because try as I might, I can't pronounce his name. Pretty good performance, we never seem to start the season with a bang. Didn't think it was a red but as has been said, it was a daft thing to do. Feel sorry for Reina, bad mistake but he's proved time and again he gets over his errors so I'm not at all concerned. If we were gunning for the title, we need to be winning games like this. But I think we'd all take top 4, given the circumstances, in which case 1-1 at home to Arsenal is an OK result.
  4. Excellent. An argument about contract law! Given being dropped is pretty funny. I remember during his stint at Newcastle he lost his place to Steve Harper for a couple of games after Harper had deputised well when Given was injured. He got all stroppy and threatened to hand in a transfer request. He's got no fight, and he's well overhyped.
  5. Not particularly bothered either way to be honest. Don't think he'll be the crazy liability that some think he'll be. Don't think he'll be be Masch mk 2 either. But he's pretty solid, has plenty of experience, and it's not like we've overpaid massively for him. As for not recouping the fee, if we get 3-4 solid seasons out of him, I don't really care about resale value. If we still think of ourselves as a top club, we shouldn't be too worried about that no matter what our financial situation.
  6. They got him from the work'ouse. Ginsoak was on holiday in Portugal and saw a fat man wandering around singing "boy for sale - going cheap, only 7 million, that or thereabouts".
  7. Arsenal always seem to have a multitude of players injured. They're all tarts, and Wenger talks shit.
  8. As much as I enjoyed the League of Gentlemen, Big Train is probably, for me, the finest sketch show of all time. Underrated genius.
  9. I doubt it's true. But if Pepe was to leave for £23m, with that kind of cash I suspect we'd be in for better, more proven goalkeepers than Brad Jones and Adam Federici.
  10. He's a dozy old cunt anyway. The programme was made by Panorama, which is part of a totally different wing of the BBC to the Sport. Since there's already a thread about him, Fat Sham pulled a similar trick in Newcastle. He was implicated in the "bungs" documentary and did a blanket ban of the BBC for a time - wouldn't even speak to local radio. Like giver, like taker I suppose.
  11. The All Blacks did something similar a few years ago. They got rid of Graham Henry, then interviewed a shortlist of candidates for the post. Graham Henry was the most impressive in interview and had the best ideas so they gave him the job back!
  12. Agreed. It'd be nice to compete in the transfer market, seeing an end of sell to fucking buy. I'd take that now, I don't want to see us blow other bids for average players out the water. That and work started on the new stadium. Is that too much to ask?
  13. It's strange, I was saying this to a mate the other day. Until we've a clearer idea of how Hodgson's teams will be deployed, it's difficult to make a judgement on how strong we are. If he's going to use 4-4-2, then I'll be worried as I don't think we've got the players for it. It'll make the Cole signing rather strange as well.
  14. It still annoys me that people often talk about Vieira, Keane and Makalele when they define this role, but Didi is always overlooked. One of the best players the Sky generation forgot in their own time.
  15. It's a load of rubbish and his agent is going to sue the Facebook user who generated the story, according to BBC: Real Madrid's Netherlands international Royston Drenthe is not on his way to Liverpool, despite reports - citing a supposed Facebook page for the player - suggesting a deal had been done. "I will soon be joining Liverpool FC. I hope I will have a good season," read the page. However, his agent told BBC Sport: "Royston does not have a Facebook page, a Twitter page or a MySpace page. We will be taking legal action against the person who set up this false Royston Drenthe account. "Royston is definitely staying at Real Madrid. He is happy there, he has spoken to the club directors and is looking forward to the new season at the Bernabeu." I don't know how the agent told the BBC. Might have been via Twitter or something.
  16. Probably a lot of truth in that. As with Jovanovic when he signed, I know so little about Figueroa that I can't comment. At all. Not really sure why I'm contributing to this thread!
  17. Very true. If all the noises he's made in his 3 (almost) impeccable years here are true, he'll go abroad if and when he leaves. But he'll blot that copybook completely if he pisses over his words and goes to either of the aforementioned. I don't think he's off, for what it's worth. Every now and then we get a 48 hour period where it goes mental. As I said before, the Chelsea speculation has a lot of Fleet Street stirring to it - they're utterly convinced that a player of Torres' calibre "belongs in the capital." And they're a gang of cunts.
  18. Yeah - while he was preparing the budget, Osbourne must have been going to work with spare underpants, such was the wetting himself with excitement. His party's favoured cuts with a reason (the recession) and a culprit (Labour).
  19. You've basically summed up my sister's boyfriend there. Smart guy, with all the qualifications, but a whopping number of people competing with him who are all as qualified, with no real way of telling them apart except for clear standouts and, ahem, "recommendations" no doubt.
  20. The London-based hacks are itching for him to join Chelsea, itching.
  21. With Raul, I always thought the problem was that the moment he said anything, Marca would be all over it like a rash, fighting his corner? Wouldn't be as much of an issue in this country where the Spanish football dailys aren't sold and his reputation isn't quite so astronomic. Saying that, the tabloids aren't averse to translating the Spanish papers and claiming it as an exclusive, so maybe it would be a problem! Moot point anyway, since he'd have been on more than decent money at Real and decent money for them is top bracket for us, which Raul isn't worth and wouldn't be offered.
  22. Yep. Standard give as much of a fuck about tapping up as most British clubs though, unfortunately.
