  2. There are many excellent reasons for watching B5 series 1 - 4 (1 does set up some of the later story arcs). Two were Susan Ivanova Lyta Alexander Don't deny it.
  3. Suppose you were a London police chief who had come up with a witty recruitment campaign that centred on a cute little piglet. You get little cards produced with the thought of them being displayed in local shops. Would you put them in shops in Stamford Hill (centre of Hasidic Jewish community)? Personally I wouldn't. I'd figure that as pork isn't a kosher meat then maybe some locals would misinterpret the message I was trying to get across. I'd also figure that not many shops would display the ad, so all in all it would be a waste of time and money and possibly be seen as insensitive. Of course, I don't understand the problem with pork, but then again my wife is a vegetarian - thankfully she has no problem with me eating meat.
  4. I was going to wish you good luck, but then I guess you don't see it as having anything to do with luck, so all the best instead. "I'm much more liberal than a lot of American Christians" - serious question: will you be able to accept them as they are?
  5. "Life is beautiful" Italian film that is well worth sticking with. The first half hour seems frivolous but contrasts brilliantly with the rest. I can't think of another film that is so funny and so sad. 10/10.
  6. Bio age 46 (anyone older than me on here?) Real age 36 Life expectancy - the super volcano under Yellowstone will get us all I tell you.
  7. The whole question of "designer babies" opens up ethical nightmares. I hope that at some point in the future sexual orientation is no more important than handedness, but suspect you are correct and that some groups with strongly held views will seek prevention. (hold on, mars - you wouldn't worry about swapping a left hander to a right hander, would you? And you said that "sexual orientation is no more important than handedness", so aren't you stuffed logically speaking? Bugger) It's complicated. Anyway, I'd only be worried if they detected "gingerness". It was a joke, ok - a joke.
  8. The New Scientist editorial was good, too: "IRIS ROBINSON held nothing back this month when interviewed on BBC radio. "Homosexuality is disgusting, nauseating, shameful, wicked and vile," she said. It is "not natural". Her Christian belief told her it is "an abomination" and she advised homosexuals to seek psychiatric help. Such intolerance may be bread and butter for preachers of the fire-and-brimstone variety but it is rare in UK politics. Robinson is a Member of Parliament and of the Northern Ireland Assembly. Interpretation of biblical verses is best left to Christian scholars, but much else that Robinson said should not go unchallenged, such as the notion that homosexuality is unnatural. The animal kingdom is replete with same-sex action. Male penguins do it, rams do it, even female macaques pair off to do it. Nine years ago, Bruce Bagemihl counted 470 species that indulge in same-sex activity, ranging from male anal penetration by males to ..." Again, I can't quote the whole piece unfortunately. While there are people in UK politics spouting intolerant drivel then I think they need to be challenged.
  9. For the "No one is born gay" camp.... This from the latest New Scientist: "BRAIN scans have provided the most compelling evidence yet that being gay or straight is down to biology rather than choice. Tantalisingly, the scans reveal that in gay people, key structures of the brain governing emotion, mood, anxiety and aggression resemble those in straight people of the opposite sex. "This is the most robust measure so far of cerebral differences between homosexual and heterosexual subjects," says Ivanka Savic, who conducted the study at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Previous studies have also shown differences in brain architecture and activity between gay and straight people, but most were based on people's responses to sexually driven cues that could have been learned, such as rating the attractiveness of male or female faces. To get round this, Savic and her colleague, Per Lindström, chose to measure brain features that are probably fixed at birth. "That was the whole point of the study, ..." The whole article is an interesting read but can't get it from the website.
  10. I think the spoiler is Cloverfield just isn't that great. It isn't Alien scary or Godzilla action-packed. Jumpers wasn't brilliant but was less irritating than Cloverfield and as a piece of mindless entertainment it worked for me. (Thought Juno was great)

  15. Can any Firefox expert help me - got it installed and it is very quick but the font looks poor, like it's pixellated. The font using IE looks smoother. I've tried changing Firefox fonts but haven't found a solution yet. Any suggestions?

  17. "Nobody has ever worked with me like this before. It's outstanding. Basically, I know days before the next game exactly the best way to finish a chance against the keeper I'm about to face. "Xavi Valero tells me precisely what each keeper tends to do - stay big, go down early, if they have a preferred side they try to push you to. It's vital information. I've refined the way I take chances as a result." There was a thread a while back about Rafa's micro-management and a lot of nostalgia for a simpler game. I can't help thinking the above shows the best side of Rafa's attention to detail.

  20. As the forum goes into transfer overdrive, you can count on flattering YouTube clips to be posted of everyone linked with us. So what's the best "good clip/bad player" combo you can come up with? On the disappointment front, mine would be - Morientes. Not a bad player but didn't shine for us. I couldn't find the Cisse clip that raised my expectations a few years back - again not a bad player but the clip suggested so much more than we got. Please don't post current squad member clips. Waits expectantly for Barry, Milner, etc clips.
