  1. Taken from "The Italian Job", a book by Gianluca Vialli & Gabrielle Marcotti which i am reading at the moment, i deffinatley recomend it, very intresting. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My next suggestion is somewhat more contreversial. I would like the clock to stop whenever the ball is not in play, as it does in basketball or ice-hockey. This would have two immeadiate effects : first, it would help eliminate time wasting - there would be no point in rolling around feigning an injury or taking forever for a goal kick as the clock would only start once the ball is in play. It is amazing how little football is actually played over the ninety minutes. At the 1990 World Cuo the ball was in play on average for 52 minutes, and in some games it was as low as 45 minutes. Today the average is about 55 minutes. FIFA have urged referee's to grant more injury time, but if the ball is in play for only 55 minutes, you cant expect an official to grant and additional 35 of injury time can you? I think the answer is to have 2 30 minute halves and stop the clock every time the play is interupted by the referees whistle. FIFA have said that the game shoud strive to keep the ball in play for 60 minutes and i agree. Overall, matches would not be any longer, and might even be shorter because there would be less time wasting and gamesmanship. And there would be more action. The idea has lurked in the background for some years, but now its time to take it seriousley. It would change neither the nature nor the fabric of the game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is one of a couple of intresing ideas of changes that could improve the game, heres a brief summary of the others : Having refs all centrally based where they work similar to players with set training routines etc. they would be randomley allocated to which games they officiate over on the day or day before the game then travel to the game. Changing the offside rule so it only applies in the final third of the pitch, in theory stretching the game out as it forces teams to defend deeper due to attackers remaining onside up to this point thus opening up the middle of the pitch for technically gifted players to have more influence. Also it should make a linesmans job a little easier as he has less space to keep an eye on when making an offside call. Introducing technology to help the refs, sensors that go off when the ball crosses the lines and the ability for each team to challenge one of the referees decisions to be reviewed by him on a video replay (once each per half) Any thoughts/opinions on these ideas?
  2. Whats the score with regards to Champions league qualification next year? is it top 2 or top 3 that go directly into the group stage and is that effected by 3rd/4th winning it this year?
  3. It should be abolished completely. What benefit other than protecting the corrupt does it offer?
  4. He was on the show to plug his new album, he had his guitar with him and he was playing a few little bits off it. At the end he mentioned hillsborough and how his thoughts were with the victims families, then the presenter says we understand you want to close the show with a special song, he sang YNWA acapella as the camera panned away.
  5. chelsea could quite easily knock barca out
  6. Ive only ever known Clough as a great manager but never knew he was any good as a player but was drawn to his goalscoring record a couple of weeks ago and my god he must have been good! 1955 - 1961 - Middlesbrough - 213 appearances with 197 goals 1961 - 1964 - Sunderland - 61 appearances with 54 goals (2 of these years he was out with a cruciate ligament injury which caused his retirement as he only managed 3 games upon his return from the injury) Didnt Shankly try and buy him at some point?
  7. Im made up he thinks they played well and were the best team to be honest. You just know there fans will be sayin stuff like "we only beat them cos they played shit" and "we were lucky to catch them while they were having an off day" But with Whiskynose coming out and saying he thinks they played good then you can just tell them to fuck off!
  8. My All time Liverpool Select XI ---------------------Clem Neal------------Carra-------Hansen-------Kennedy Callaghan------Gerrard------Souness--------Barnes ----------------Kenny -----------------------------Rush
  9. I'd go with this as well, I would like to see Insua pick up from where he left off before he went away for that competition with argentina (anyone know how he got on over there). I would deffo go with Aurelio in midfield again, ahead of Lucas, he played well in there against Pompey and with city being a bit lightweight in the middle i think he will have enough.
  10. Think back just 4 weeks, we were top of the league following 2 convincing performances, 3-0 against Bolton and 5-1 against Newcastle, having undoubtedly our best season since we last won it! Rafa almost untouchable. Since then weve had 3 league games which have produced 3 draws, can we go from one extreme to the other that quickly? We should be beating teams like stoke and wigan convincingly but sometimes it just doesnt go like that, the derby can allways go either way even though we outplayed Everton and Wigan, not so sure about stoke - haha. So 1 poor result and 2 bad results and we find ourself questioning the managers position (i know theres other reasons as well but wanna focus on the football). If we were to go through feb with a 100% record, 4 wins in the league, next rouind of the fa and beating real away then things would be looking a lot more rosey! Start with a win against chelsea and the confidence should be there 2 get a good run started. Its not inconcievable that we will still win it. This weekend could have us above the mancs again! Heres to hoping Everton can do us a favour and we can turn the chavs over!
  11. Regaining top spot? i was unaware we had lost it.
  12. it pretty much says that in the daily mirror today
  13. 34 is Alex Raisbeck, remember his pic from reading the official history a few years ago. Stuck on all the same ones otherwise though!
  14. I think the most important statistic to look at when labeling a player a 'playmaker' is goalscoring chances created from open play. Highest number of passes doesnt make somebody a playmaker.
  15. Couldn't go tonight so watched it on tv, heard the booing and it's a disgrace, fair enough it wasn't the best performance, but it wasn't the worst either! Regardless of 2nites performance, were top so the booers can fuck off! If I'm honest I feel sorry 4 any1 who was there and booing 2nite
