Collectively we were pants for half an hour, but Xabi was our first player to get on the ball and try and make a few passes. He and Masch were at the heart of most of our good play in the 30 minutes either side of half time, i.e. when we were dominant, though his attempts to play the killer pass usually didn't come off. To blame him for the opening half hour is ridiculous when the whole team was scared of its own shite.

Thought Xabi had a very good game tonight, saved his best form for a real team.

Wenger is a genius when it comes to spotting and developing talent, and establishing a clubs pattern of play. But tonight showed that sometimes real players that aren't cloned in Dr Evil's laboratory, i.e Sami, Mash.Torres et al are better than perfect Football Manager specimens who lack the heart and bottle for the epic occasion.

A really disappointing result, but at least we were unlucky to lose. Lack of ruthlessness in attack, where only Bellamy shines, plus a lack of self belief when we go behind remain a problem. Spurs away and Jabba's shaven monkies on new years day can make or break our league season.

At last reasons to be cheerful, and optimistic. We got the breaks today. But Bellamy was superb, Cisse was never as remotely effective. He looked the player we'd hoped we'd signed. He looks like he could be a great get out option for us, when we're not playing well, like Michael Owen. Touching wood, but has anyone else noticed that Reina is playing with great assurance recently, and he made vital saves at 1-0 and 2-0 that had Wigan scored could have put us real pressure. Here's hoping that we can find some form now.

What was disappointing about yesterday, and indeed the season so far is that we didn't play with the conviction that if we get after teams that we will beat them. If you break yesterdays game down to its component parts then we were certainly superior. However with 10 minutes to go Liverpool players were strolling around the park when Chelsea should have been on the rack. Rafa has done a great job, and has built a very good squad, compare it with what he inherited, but you have to begin to wonder if his idiosyncrasies are going to undermine the team. Constant tinkering and an excessively scientific approach to the game are putting the shackles on the players. I would agree with the other poster who says that our attacking play lacks the verve of the other top teams. We can only go on the evidence the season so far, and that has been disappointing.

Most of us would settle for that.
