PODCAST: Sparta Prague 1 Liverpool 5 - Match Reaction

The Reds fielded a stronger than expected side in Prague and it paid off with a big win that makes the second leg at Anfield a formality, but it may have come at a cost as Ibou Konate was forced off with an injury that makes him a doubt the weekend.

Chris Smith is joined by the usual Europa League line up of John Brennan and TLW Editor Dave Usher to discuss tonight's game and to look ahead to the big one on Sunday.

I just watched the highlights and Mo was clearly onside - good half a yard.

The camera angle is misleading so he might have been off, I don't know. Putting the lines on the screen for us asap should be compulsory.

On the Kelleher/Alisson issue. worth rembering that Ali doesn't always play well V City, especially with his kicking - 2021 I think and last November he made a couple of mistakes. I'd still start Ali though if he was fit!

Thought that was my dad then until the last line!

A question, I usually download the podcast and listen to it on my walks, I've noticed since about 2 or 3 episodes ago that downloads through the site became extremely slow, it takes about the same to download as to stream it. Is this deliberate and is there a better way to download? It used to be pretty fast, now it's dial-up speed. It only happens with TLW podcasts.

No idea why that would be. What platform do you use to listen on?

I download the file, listen later, so probably irrelevant. I always just click straight on the button offered on the LFC site.

I clicked through to Podbean now and started downloading a Forest podcast from the list there to check, it is also considerably slower than before, although faster than through the site. It must be something with their bandwidth  or restricted download speed. I think it used to be my Internet speed or thereabouts until recently. Now it's like an hour to download, which is bizarre.

I guess you don't notice if you just stream it.

I’m probably in a minority of 1 that would rather see Quansah at CB than Gomez, Joe has been fantastic for us in the myriad of positions he’s played for us this season, but I fear he’s always got a brain fart in him at CB.
Probably doing him a massive disservice there but I’ve said it now.

@Chris did you put your desk outside on your balcony and just have the rain crashing down around you?

Sorry bud! I muted myself when I wasn't talking because when it rains here it FUCKING RAINS. There are drainpipes outside my office window that ironically make an insane racket when the rain hits them.

Virgil has played a lot of football, so has Gomez, asking Konate to play an hour (which I assume was the plan) isn't the big deal it was been made out to be. Hindsight is being abused here, Gomez could have been asked to do the 90 and got injured and the same complaints would be made. The fact we're all is missing is Klopp takes this competition way more seriously than we do, if you can adjust your thinking to increase the seriousness of the game then Konates injury is no different to any other one.

It's not hindsight if you were saying it beforehand, which loads of us where. I even posted in the pre-match pod chat with John and Chris at HT "get Konate off now".

Not because I'm smart or can see into the future, just because it was fucking obvious! He can't play twice a week, they wrap him in cotton wool and have done for years, so with City on the horizon it was staggering to leave him on.

I'd start Gomez in the middle but I'm not 100% sold on it for the reasons you mention. The fact he'd be alongside Virgil swings it for me though, they've been great together before and Joe is playing with way more confidence these days.

True. My theory is when we play City, Alisson wants to prove he is better with his feet than Ederson. And he ends up over-compensating or complicating things.

Generally Alisson is good with his feet but he isn't as good as Ederson in that regard. Even Kelleher is arguably more composed than Alisson with his kicking. Our Brazilian loves taking the risk of getting caught on the ball because it supposedly tempts the opposition into leaving spaces. Which I'd rather he didn't do tbh.

I don't think Jarrell has the physicality for Haaland at this stage, and Haaland will obviously move onto whoever isn't Virgil.

Gomez played a blinder against Haaland in the Anfield game against them last season as well. One of our best players on the day.
