PODCAST: Liverpool 2 Atletico Madrid 0 - Match Reaction

A fourth straight win in the Champions League saw the Reds secure first place in the group and advance to the knock out stages, as early goals from Jota and Mané plus a red card for Atletico's Felipe ensured a stress free night at Anfield.

TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Julian Richards to go over all the main talking points from the game, including Trent's continued excellence, the return of the 'comfort blanket' Fabinho and the mixed reception received by Luis Suarez.

Interesting to hear how flat the atmosphere was. I think it reflected the lack of jeopardy. I'm sure there was some geek out there who, before the game, had calculated the chances of Liverpool failing to qualify for the knockout stages and put it at, I don't know, 2%? At the risk of going all shitness-of-modern-football in the wrong thread, it's sad how the expectations of the season have been inverted in recent times. What I mean is that season used to consist of the slog of the league with a payoff come the summer while Europe was the intense hit of drama interspersed through the season. Now it seems to be the other way round. We're barely a quarter of the way through the league and failing to beat Brighton already feels like it could be fatal to Liverpool's prospects, while this game had low stakes and there are now two more games with no competitive stakes at all. It's all kinda dispiriting.

Atmosphere has been crap all season at Anfield, not just this game.
