I imagine he'll be gone in a year ow two anyway, so maybe pulling the trigger now would be the best move financially, especially if it means Arl Slot has a bit of extra freedom to build the team with his own identity. The difference between us and the blue mancs is their ability to roll the dice as many times as they want. Might be right, the vibe behind the scenes would have have been about the future being completely unknown, everyone just focused on the present and enjoying their football.
