  1. Captivating History of Scandinavia A series of audiobooks covering the (mainly political) history of the Scandinavian countries plus Iceland and Finland. Basic, but informative. Got me wanting to read more about Queen Margaret I of Denmark (a woman well ahead of her time) and Denmark's role in WWII (and a fellow named Duckwitz).
  2. And the last step needed to close that circle? Send your homeless now-criminals to Australia Rwanda.
  3. Don't know if I'd characterize Erdogan as "far right", but he's certainly moved Turkey toward the undemocratic, repressive, non-secular end of the scale. Took a kicking in local elections, including Istanbul and Ankara. Hopefully a sign of a move back towards the democractic centre.
  4. Gabriel then told Haaland to "stop diving" and a few other choice words. I think that's what the kerfuffle after the final whistle was about.
  5. Haaland stepped towards the hold on his jersey and then fell down trying to win a penalty.
  6. Arsenal doing what they need to do. Limiting City's chances and getting down the field on the break. Everton-level boring though.
  7. This. And as aws said: LFC played well, better finishing and it's a rout. One thing I didn't like was their tactic of falling down at every touch, all over the pitch. Whatever else De Zerbi has to do to compete with a depleted line-up, that's just poor. One of the things I really hate about modern football.
  8. Republican US Congressman Tim Walberg: "We shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid," Walberg said. "It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick." Never heard of him before, and not one of the top Republicans in Congress. But this is where their thinking is. He's also a pastor, formerly with the baptists, and now with a sect which advocates the use of weapons of mass destruction against innocent civilians, apparently. A man of God on this Easter Sunday.
  9. How can they give a pen, and a second yellow/red against Burnley? That's just ridiculous. Fire the ref, get rid of VAR. Neither fit for purpose.
  10. John Prine "Sam Stone" Sam Stone was alone When he popped his last balloon, Climbing walls while sitting in a chair. Well, he played his last request, While the room smelled just like death, With an overdose hovering in the air.
  11. Apparently they've also charged his wife with "aiding and abetting". Compounding the horror.
  12. "allegations of an historical nature" Is that a euphemism for a particular offense, or range of offenses, or does it simply refer to things that happened long ago?
  13. Santos>Washington>Bush>Bush
  14. Case in point. Trump decides to get rid of the chairperson of the Republican Party, who has spent the past four years kissing his ass and repeating his lies regarding the 2020 election, and NBC decide they're going to hire her as a political analyst. She's a lying sack of shit, and a dangerous one at that, yet these idiots decide to restore her credibility (and/or destroy their own) by giving her a platform on one of the biggest news networks in the world. God knows why. "Fairness"? "Balance"? Truth and Lies are not two sides of the same journalistic coin. They've now fired her, as most of their on-air employees have told them what fools they are, and refused to use her on their various programs. But whoever decided to hire her in the first place should be following her out the door.
  15. He grifted people out of millions by telling lies about murdered children. He's scum.
  16. At the very least the int'l managers/associations should show some consideration for their own players. I know they've got a helluva a lot of free meals (for themselves) to pay for, but they should still realize that playing your best players every minute of every pointless friendly is not in the best interests of anyone, themselves included. Kudos to Egypt, whatever their previous attitudes, for letting Mo have a couple of weeks off.
  17. I've just said the fastest novena in history for Gomez to get out of this one unscathed.
  18. "bitches" Jesse from Breaking Bad. I tack it onto the end of sentences far too often. Bitches.
  19. Sean Combs’ Homes Raided as Part of Sex Trafficking Investigation Looks like he couldn't buy his way (allegedly) out of this one.
  20. X Free Speech Absolutist has lawsuit designed to silence critics thrown out of court. Elon Musk’s lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate has been dismissed by a federal judge in California who deemed the suit an attempt to silence critics of the social media platform X. Musk’s X Corp. filed suit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) last year, accusing the nonprofit of “intentionally and unlawfully” accessing the platform’s data to research reports documenting the rise in hate speech on X, formerly Twitter, following the tech billionaire’s 2022 takeover. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer called the suit a thinly veiled attempt to retaliate against CCDH and dismissed the case under a California law designed to stop frivolous litigation intended to punish defendants’ First Amendment rights, known as anti-SLAPP legislation.
  21. Baby steps, as always. But if it prevents Israel attacking Rafah and killing thousands more innocent men women and children, better than nothing at all.
