1. Condolences mate, YNWA. Lost my own mother the same way in 2001. Lung cancer, having lost a breast a couple of years previously. We thought she was beating it through chemo. But she had a bad reaction to some steroids the doc prescribed and ended up in hospital on a monday. We didnt think it was too serious. Went up to see her on the wednesday, had plans for the thursday so didnt go up but was planning to go up the friday night after work. She called me on the friday daytime and told me she wasn't feeling so good, so not to go up that night. Saturday morning she died. Fuck cancer, the fucking bastard.
2. RIP. Great band. First band I was in we covered Genetic Engineering.
3. Was he previously disappointed because he'd actually wanted a daughter?
4. These? Good at what they do, but nothing earth shattering.
5. If you can get hold of a DeLorean for the night, you could go as Marty McFly in Back to the Future 3. Or Doc Brown. Nobody would care who you'd come as if you pulled up in a DeLorean.
6. Erm did I miss the point of the poll? Does it mean Beers and Weed are lightweight, or I'm a lightweight? Just so we know where we are on this, in my opinion beers and weed are a quiet night in.
7. As also used by Jack White. Thought it looked familiar but the logo was throwing me, looks quite Gibson-ish if viewed in passing. It is fucking hideous though. Nice work Carvalho.
8. I was thinking Non-Reverse Firebird as well, but that upper horn looks too vertical to be that. Not pointy enough to be a non-reverse Explorer either. Maybe some odd variation of either. For a company thats come out with some of the most standard "rock" guitars i.e. Les Paul, ES335, Gibson have produced some really weird shit. Like the RD and Grabber basses that Krist Novoselic played, or the Victory series. They tend to stick to what they do best these days.
9. Gustavo Dal Farra. Theres a clearer version of that track (Rushed Love) here Gustavo Dal Farra – Free listening, videos, concerts, stats, & pictures at Last.fm
10. I first saw that clip on the talkbass forum, and someone on the thread knew who he was, but the name slips my mind right now. I'll have a dig around later and see if I can find out.
11. Seen this before, fucking fantastic. If I could rep, you'd be getting repped right now. Have you seen this guy ? This is one of my favourite bass clips, love the way he uses harmonics to flesh the tune out.
12. Thom created musical magic at Glasto in 2003, he sang this bit on his own with the whol crowd singing along with him. Still get chills up my spine thinking about it. Lyric wise, the final line of Pink Floyds "Mother" from the wall "Ooh babe, you'll always be baby to me". Gets me every time. Music wise, either the hanging jazz chord from Radioheads "Just", or the breakdown on "The King is Half Undressed" by Jellyfish (the oohs, followed by the lead in back to the final chorus). Underrated band that one.
13. Been playing bass for about 20 years now, hard to put a level on where I'm at. I can hold my own in most musical situations, but having said that there are people that have been playing a quarter of the time that put me to shame. Gear wise, over the 20 years I've probably owned as many instruments as Carvalho, but never felt the need to own more than two or three at a time. Been through Warwicks, Fenders, Rickenbackers, Gibsons, and the odd random cheapo here and there. Current collection is a hand built Goodfellow Player from the early 80's. Mad finish (Harlequin). Only 150 of these ever made by Bernie Goodfellow himself before he sold the name and the design to a company that mass produced them cheaply. This is an original though. Also a 1979 Ibanez Silver Series, modded with SD pickups and a Badass Bridge. This is my workhorse. Actually nicer than any USA Fender I've ever played. Also got a cheap fretless and a Yamaha acoustic guitar. No pics of those to hand right now. All this played through a Trace Elliot head and SWR Goliath III 4X10 cab. No effects, they sound good when other people use them (Chris from Muse is a prime example), but they're not for me. Can't really think of anyone I want to play like.
14. Can we stick him in a room with the LFC ladies team? It would be fun to watch them kick his malformed testicles to jelly.
15. Japan radiation: Power company retracts report of extreme radiation - latimes.com And now they've retracted it. "ooh we got it wrong, sorry!". Convenient. When are these cunts going to start telling the truth?
16. Nah, you'll neg them, Conan the Negbarian. If they want to put their hands up, its up to them.
17. This has actually has quite a positive effect. After this neg, I received 3 reps to redress the balance. So I'm two reps up on the day. Jurassic Park!
18. 8 reps, just one neg from the manchester-loving Stu Monty. Apparently manchester is better than me. Which is just drivel, because I was in a pub once and manchester said something about my mum and then looked at my pint, so I battered it.
19. She was right, probably unintentionally though. Holland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
20. One of my mates once asked me what "spigger" meant. I had no idea and asked him where he'd heard it. In the REM song, Losing My Religion. "Oh life, spigger, spigger than you....".
