  1. Do you mean "Macheda moment"? I really, really, really wish it had been a Taibi moment.
  2. It's almost as though Biscao doesn't remember the massive compromises a Labour government had to make in order to achieve the Good Friday agreement.
  3. 6 large companies owning 98% of the domestic market and receiving direct government subsidy is, according to Biscao, "the market actually doing what it's supposed to". When you consider just how large the government subsidy is on our "privatised" rail industry is, I don't think Biscao understands how neither of those "markets" are actually markets in any conventional definition of the term or how close those industries are to being publicly owned already.
  4. Every goal I scored was accompanied by an internal monologue the same as Barry Davies' when describing Francis Lee's goal shown here:
  5. These posts simply ignore the facts about the numbers who voted at the General Election. The Conservatives only had 36% of votes cast and only have 51% of MP's. There was no overwhelming mandate for their policies at the last election. It was really close to being a hung parliament requiring some form of coalition. There are 5 million votes and 65 seats held by the SNP, Lib-Dems and Green Party that a centre/left Labour Party would be looking to attract. Then there are the 4 million UKIP votes to be won. Those saying that this result consigns Labour to the election dustbin for a generation are simply parroting what they've read and heard from those with a vested interest in maintaining the centre/right consensus. I'm in my forties and I've never seen such a concerted effort from the media, the Conservatives and Centre/Right Labour to warn people against electing an individual as party leader. It's unprecedented. When these same people and media outlets are constantly repeating the same message that he's unelectable and that no-one will vote for him, then you have to ask the question: "If he's unelectable, then why are you all colluding to spend so much time and effort in a desperate attempt to dissuade people from voting for him?" It's simple: it isn't about Corbyn at all. It's about centre/right parties and politicians orchestrating a campaign to wipe out any presence of a centre/left voting option in mainstream elections. It's about preserving the current lockdown of power in Westminster within a narrow elite of identikit politicians within Conservative and Labour who view any populist centre/left alternative as a threat to the status quo that allows them to spend their time in Parliament representing corporate interests and then taking up lucrative consultancies and executive positions within those corporations when they leave front bench politics.
  6. An O2 advert to support England in the rugby World Cup has just been on the telly. Strangely, they haven't quite grasped the anti-paedophile zeitgeist and are basically asking us to support Chris Robshaw as he secretly looks into a small boys bedroom window at night.
  7. He did go similarly batshit when Gerrard scored against Olympiakos and West Ham so it's probably best to concentrate your energies on to actual problems with our team and club rather than Martin Tyler.
  8. Irrespective of Gerrard's position on this, it's still an issue surrounding his departure that FSG were happy to let a man of his ability, experience and influence leave. Gerrard could have been offered a contract extension so that we still retained his creative and goalscoring ability on the field (regardless of how often he would play), and had his experience and influence around the dressing room for our new players and younger players in the first team squad. That could also have been combined with a coaching development role (as he alludes to) shadowing senior staff as well as using him at Youth and Academy level. Gerrard himself has often stated the enormous influence a "past it" Gary McAllister had on himself and the other young players at Liverpool in terms of professionalism, training each day, looking after yourself, conduct and behaviour, good habits, managing situations in matches, etc, etc, etc even though McAllister wasn't playing every match. We all know Gerrard is a compex, introspective character so inconsistencies in his interviews and statements are nothing new. However, what's clear is that FSG were only looking at Gerrard's salary value in terms of minutes on the pitch and were not considering (or simply undervalued massively) the value he could add right across the club. It still remains a poor judgement and poor strategy by FSG to allow him to leave the club.
  9. So, we didn't even use FIFA 16 ratings when buying in the summer? Have we fallen so far behind the elite that we're using PES ratings? Fuck's sake, Parry!
  10. "......No, seriously! Christian fucking Purslow!......"
  11. ".....so, Emre, as Martin's picked up a knock with Slovakia, The Group will need you to fill in for him. Here's what you do at corners......"
  12. I'd be surprised if anyone can confidently predict how we'd do in any single match these days, let alone a season long competition.
  13. The flag organisers say the club never mentioned this incident to them when discussing the new accreditation process. In any event, in what way does formal accreditation assist in this matter which is one that would simply be dealt with by stewards? Additionally, why the hints and leaks via the Echo? If this actually was the reason, or there were other complaints, then why not just say so? What is the cloak and dagger secrecy for? It's not a confidential contract or transfer negotiation - it's just flags at the match! As the Spion Kop group's latest response in the Echo correctly states, that incident is entirely unrelated to what they do: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fc-flagpole-row-latest-10024398 I declare Bullshit on this as being the reason for the establishment of the Flag Stasi.
  14. Liverpool 4-1 Arsenal. Liverpool 4-0 Everton Liverpool 3-2 Man City Liverpool 4-0 Tottenham Newcastle 0-6 Liverpool Liverpool 5-0 Swansea Joe Allen didn't start any of these games. He's a decent squad player, but nothing more than that.
  15. Best I ever did was half a dozen games for Burscough Reserves in the early 90's. Getting paid travelling expenses and a £20 fee for playing footy felt like the best thing in the world. The big difference at that level was the fitness and dedication rather than the technique. Those lads in the first team were prepared to do all the training sessions and take care of themselves properly outside of the training sessions. I wasn't, and so I was happy to settle for not having to make up the missed hours in work to do the training sessions and also play Saturday/Sunday league level so I could get pissed up of a weekend. My Dad had trials for Liverpool in 1963 after he'd finished his national service. He'd been invited after representing the Tank Regiment team against the Army team which included quite a few professionals. He barely got any time on the pitch and went and complained to Reuben Bennett that he wasn't getting a chance. Bennett sent him on the pitch and he scored two in the last half hour of the trial. Bennett gave him a bit of stick as they came off the pitch and, unfortunately, instead of letting his performance doing the talking he gave Bennett a few choice words back and Bennett told him to go home. Bob Paisley took my Dad to one side and gave him a bollocking for spoiling a good trial by running his mouth off, but asked him to come back next week with a better attitude. My Dad went back and played again the next week but was nowhere near as good and never got asked back that time. He always told me the story as a lesson in actions speaking louder than words, rather than in a "I could have made it" manner. He said that in the second trial they spent half an hour playing short-sided games with some of the first team and that Ian St John was on a totally different level to all of them. "Effortlessly brilliant", he described him as.
  16. Matthew Syed wrote an excellent book about this: http://www.amazon.com/Bounce-Myth-Talent-Power-Practice-ebook/dp/B003P2WJ18
  17. I was at the man u Milk Cup game for Molby's famous goal and for about 20 years, before they found the video tape of it, the Radio City Double Winners tape was the only record of it that I knew of. Sadly, it was Gary Bloom who was commentating on it that night and his pathetic monotone whine scarcely did justice to Rambo's goal and the ensuing mayhem.
  18. In the 80's, when Clive Tyldesley worked at Radio City, whenever we won the league they would bring out a highlights of the season tape with all the radio commentaries that he and Gary Bloom did. I've still got the ones from the double season and 1987-88. For all his subsequent annoying manc fandom, I'll always love Clive Tyldesley because he was the voice on the radio describing all the away games I could never go to when I was a kid. Radio City would only ever have second half commentary on whichever of us or Everton were away from home - you would just get updates in the first half or for home matches. I remember during the double season, we were playing West Brom away during the title run-in and it was 1-1 at half time when the fusebox went in our house. I phoned a few of my mates to see if they were home so I could listen to the second half commentary in theirs, but they were all out. My next door neighbour just said "No" because she was a miserable cunt who hated football (probably because me and my brother were constantly hitting her windows playing it outside her house). So I had the idea of running to the shops in Huyton village because sometimes there'll be one where they have the radio on while they're working. It worked a treat as they had one on in WH Smiths, so I spent 45 minutes pretending I was interested in buying stationery or birthday cards just so I could listen to the second half. I gave myself away when Rushie scored, but the women behind the till weren't arsed as they were just gabbing between themselves.
  19. People in supermarkets who block access to the shelves by having trollies right next to them when taking 47 minutes choosing between two different sized tins of beans. Firstly, GET A FUCKING MOVE ON AND PICK A TIN YOU CUNT! Secondly, you are stopping anyone who is able to make a quick decision on beans from getting to them. MOVE YOUR FAT ARSE AND YOUR STUPID FUCKING TROLLEY FULL OF CAT FOOD AND SPAM OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY!
  20. At the age of 20: Walcott had 106 appearances for Arsenal and 14 goals Sterling has 124 appearances for Liverpool and 23 goals
  21. Yes, keep him. Mistakes have been made this season, but he has enough credit in the bank to warrant the job for next season at least.
  22. If the players we currently possess that we'd paid £20m+ for had produced anything like the stats and performances Sterling has already they'd be declared complete successes. Here's the reality of the situation. The owners, and manager, are trying to pull a fast one on the contract of a player of exactly the type they've been trying to sign since they came here. Is that a wise strategy? Is that a good example of risk/reward when you know there is no transfer fee involved and you have a player who is already delivering way above anyone else in that age group? Furthermore, we have the manner in which Rodgers speaks of Sterling in public. He's patronising him at every turn: “You are not a 20-year-old boy and you pick up the phone and ask to speak to the BBC,” said Rodgers. (Tell me any 20 year old man and father who is happy being described as "boy" and incapable of making decisions on their own behalf) “In fairness to Raheem, I brought Raheem in from the youth team so I know the kid well and I know a big part of this is nothing to do with him. Kid who is focused on his football, works hard every single day, he just wants to play his football. The kid gives me everything every time he trains and plays. Loyalty is not something so prevalent in the modern game.” (Boy and now Kid, Kid, Kid. Also, the inference that he is simply a moron who will do anything his agent tells him. Then, despite saying Sterling is focussed, works hard and gives everything, he's ended by accusing him of disloyalty. Classically passive-aggressive.) "..He came in at 17 years of age, I deemed him worthy to come in and become a regular..." (No, his ability "deemed him worthy" - you were not altruistically bestowing this upon him) Let's face facts here: nobody on this forum at 20 years of age would accept being continually spoken about in public by your boss in this manner. It's insulting at every level. You also would be infuriated by your boss continually inferring that he is speaking with your best interests at heart when it is a patently obvious fact that he's mostly interested in his own job and satisfying his bosses - you know, like in every business. The number of LFC fans who continue to swallow the nonsense being fed to them by Rodgers and FSG over this, and all the other poor quality contract negotiations they do, is baffling. At some point you have to see the pattern of failure. The lengthening list of messy/failed contract negotiations can't always be the fault of individual players. There's one constant presence through all of this.
  23. Football is all about opinions. That's why even naive, shite ones like yours still matter. Given how wage inflation within the highest level of football in England has risen, and the new TV deal that's been agreed, you'll be disappointed to hear that £150k a week isn't that big a deal amongst the top 5 clubs. Except for us. Look up the total wage bills for the clubs above us in the league. Average that out over their squad number and see what figure you get. Factor in that Sterling is, right now, one of our most important players and you'll see that £150k is only remarkable in the minds of fans that have an unrealistic view of how football works. If you don't like that world then that's perfectly fine, but let's not pretend that the figure Sterling is seeking is somehow extraordinary and out of keeping with English clubs at the level we claim we want to compete with.
  24. The French consul and ambassador have supported Sturgeon over this. It's a blatant invention and smear. Given this story in Private Eye about the Telegraph's shameless behaviour, it comes as no surprise that they should do this: https://twitter.com/AdamBienkov/status/583866400541933568
