  1. A watershed has been reached I think, forget all this ‘pride and passion’ and work hard ethic; it’s has now got to be skill, technique, tactics, etc Teams in the Premiership like Stoke et al need to be lambasted for their anti-football. Maybe if the PL was run more like the Bundesliga, and money wasn’t the be all and end all things could be different. Funny how the southern press were banging the drum beforehand – and now they’ve completely turned 180 degrees. While Capello hasn’t got his tactics right – the ‘players’ are almost unmanageable – having huge egos, yet once again have been shown up for what they are.
  2. Of course, it's been average at best! Might give the phone ins a miss.....
  3. Are they watching the same game? You'd think it was Argentina playing, they've been workmanlike and no more! Imagine Slovenia scoring now.....
  4. I expect to hear about 'playing with passion, and getting stuck in' - oh please, since when does that win a World Cup?? You need technique, skill, movement, etc - all things England show a lack of.
  5. What a surprise, an English character, so get a non English actor to do it!! Madness.... Sean Bean should have been Robin Hood....
  6. I may get shot down for this, but I feel both BBC TV-Radio/ ITV have gone totally overboard in the coverage – and it’s not even high quality. Also, the way a lot have jumped on the ‘World Cup/ Football bandwagon’, and think that they’re experts. Can’t we have ‘old style’ coverage back please?
  7. I did wonder why they were named after the former German striker Uwe Seeler......
  8. I think he'd be a good choice, but I fear the press would very quickly 'target' him, like they did with Rafa.
  9. Yeah, know what you mean - add in the commentary on a telephone. Now it's all a bit too 'clinical'.
  10. Weird!! But I'm like that....and I don't know why. The last time I properly supported them in a World Cup was 1982 - even had the full kit. But after that Bobby Robson took over dropped Keegan, had a 'love in' with Captain crock, and i just went off them. Funnily enough, England played better at the next 2 WC's when Captain crock was injured.
  11. Same here, only remember bits of 1978, but was a fan of the great Dutch team - and do remember the Argentina v Peru game - smells even now!! The Peru keeper was actually an Argie. 1982 was the one I still think was the best - I actually prefer the 2 group format - not a fan of the knock outs - too many negative teams playing for penalties. Some of the Brazilian football was sublime, the weather, the kits, etc Somebody previously mentioned about Italia '90 being remembered by the rest of the world as less than stellar. And I think they're right - we've forgotten that England v Ireland was the worst game of the first stage. As for the games v Belgium/ Cameroon - they were played off the park. It was also the start of football being 'trendy' and talked about - which isn't a good thing - the start of the 'Sky generation'.
  12. Well considering most of the USPostal Team have since been found guilty of doping, and nearly all of the riders Lance beat were doped.....make of that what you will. Earlier in the thread 'blood doping' was mentioned, you give your own blood to be stored and frozen - later you re-inject it back into yourself - with the benefit of more oxygen in the blood, and more red blood cells, I think. During Operacion Puerto, it wasn't just cyclists involved - tennis players, f**t**llers also, but only cyclists were named. Double standard methinks - f**t**** plays lip service to drug testing.....yet make out that it's the cleanest sport around.
  13. Can't put photos up, but Carlo Ancelotti and Paul Nicholls the racehorse trainer. Both former pros, now 'slightly tubby'.
  14. That's because he is, as was his father when they 'won' it twice in the 60's.
  15. Yeah, i know - Del Bosque, Capello, Heynckes have all been sacked despite winning either/or both Primera & Champions league.....
  16. Same here, one of a few clubs that i really do detest!! They're a fairly above average team - not a great one!
  17. True, but they come from Milano - so it shoud be Inter Milano. Milan have kept English spelling as they were founded by the English. I apologise for being pedantic!!
  18. Gotta be Bayern, still can't forgive what happened in '65, plus I think they're a pretty ordinary team. Also, Inter or Internazionale...never Inter Milan!! There's only one team called Milan, the AC is the equivalent of Football club.
  19. Weren't George Courtney or Ron Challis available.......???
  20. If he's going, then i wish he would, and quick. If he's staying, then I wish he'd shut up and get on with the job.....
  21. Somebody mentioned the MCC coaching manual - Tait, Malinga, Edwards - all slingy quick bowlers. Why haven't we got one? Because they're coached not to. It seems all individualism is coached out of them.
  22. History probably - Edward v Llewlyn......Battle of Shrewsbury, I think.....
  23. In any other country, Wigan would go and take it from behind - Chelsea champions! Unfortuntely, they'll go there trying to win - Dave Whelan loves the Evil empire......
