  1. I don't really remember him as 'failing' as such, he just didn't get many opportunities in what was a decent midfield Arsenal had then. Seemed a bit small & flimsy as I remember. Was interested in opinions of lads on here who study La Liga to give an idea of whether he has 'trained on' & matured as a player, or whether they feel he would still struggle in the Prem.
  2. Haven't followed La Liga that closely this season & was surprised to see Carlos Vela chosen in the best 11 team for last season by the BBC's resident European expert, Andy West . Says he scored 14 goals & 9 assists from a right mids position. Didn't rate him at the Arse, but looks like he has trained on & could be an option for a position we need to look at.
  3. He probably doesn't want to stay at West Ham, and if Newcastle don't come up with the readies, his agent will probably tell him to hang around to see whether he gets a look-in with Rodgers ( or whether Rodgers job is in jeopardy by January )
  4. Despite the programme being set up to laugh at these people ( and I do ) the whole family come across as very likeable, and I see a lot worse mothers than Mrs Boo Boo every week.
  5. I like Amir but I can't see he's done anything lately to suggest he should be allowed anywhere near Mayweather.
  6. Took my daughter to the funfair in Morecambe a few years ago & was standing by a ride when this twitchy looking bloke wandered up to me. Feeling a bit generous I fished out a 50p & handed it to him as he got up to me. He stared at it for a second then said ' What the fuck's that for you c***, do you think I'm a fuckin' smackhead or something ?. I had thought that exact thing but couldn't admit as much so I just waffled a bit & he flung the 50p at me & stalked off.
  7. Funnily enough thats where I live now. Still pub-crawlable with The Bulldog, Standard, Crown, Sefton, Hare & Hounds, Hunting Lodge ( Barrys ) , Halton Castle & Jolly Miller all within 30 mins walk.
  8. It was a decent area for pubs wasn't it Dickie. The PA must have had some clout with the local bobbies as it always seemed to have stay-behinds whenever you were in there. Tottering home from there & a Beef Fried Rice from Lorens Chippy was a regular occurrence. My dad & his cronies used to congregate in the Dunnys club on Stalmine Road. My mum never bothered getting him a tea on a Friday as there was always a funeral buffet for them to get involved with. Only go past there on odd occasions since my mum & dad died & it looks like the Rice Lane area is suffering badly.
  9. The Red Pepper is just around the corner from the Rice Lane flyover & was well dodgy on the few occasions frequented it, with some unsavoury characters to hand . I had a feeling it had been closed lately but could be wrong. For Waltonians of an earlier vintage, The El Toro was further down Rice Lane opposite the library & was a sticky-carpeted, one fire-escaped death trap with a healthy undercurrent of potential violence. Probably why the wife spent most of her Friday nights there.
  10. The latest buzz phrase with our bosses is ' getting into the ribs of it' as in a sentence such as ' right , we've talked a bit about this new product, but now we need to get into the ribs of it'. Must have heard it 10 times in a one day course last week.
  11. One of the minor delights of a Bank Holiday are watching the presenters on the local news and weather. The top dogs obviously get these off & it becomes 'scraping the barrel time' with people thrown in front of the cameras that were probably patrolling the car park or cleaning the offices last week.
  12. Strauss always came across as decent but a bit dull, so interested to see whether he can add anything to what is arguably the best sporting commentary team on tv. The headline on the article is also a little ' sexed-up' when you read the text. Any decent journalist's ears might have pricked up at the ' A lot of people' comment, but no, lets go down the easy-peasy Pietersen bashing route again.
  13. Watched the Bellew fight. He never ever seems to learn anything from fight to fight. He always comes in over-emotional ( tears in his eyes, kissing everybody in sight ) seems to think he is a young Mike Tyson & then flaps when the other guy does not fall over. He has enough decent weapons to build a gameplan around & his chin has looked sounder of late, but he doesn't seem to be able to concentrate on what he is meant to be doing for more than 15 seconds at a time.
  14. I am not completely sold on him & the cup efforts were poor, but after being made to shave the wage budget considerably, losing a lot of experience from the squad & having barely any forwards for half a season, I think the second half of the season was admirable & promising. 7 out of 10 for me.
  15. Just noticed the Scotland squad printed up on SSN & would definitely call myself Anthony if I was a striker called T.Watt
  16. If we are raiding City's central defenders , I would rather pay a few extra bob & get Lescott as he has far more to offer & also adds cover for left back. A drawback might be that he can only really play centrally on the left of the two where Agger is established.
  17. Getaway driver for a jewel heist even while he was due in court and more kids than a mormon minister with a viagra franchise, I'm warming to young Raheem.
  18. I agree with the philosophy here, quality not quantity. Other than some kids for the academy, every player we bring in should be a starter. Get the best central defender ( keep Skrtel ) , defensive mids & right mids we can. If there is enough kitty left to buy an extra forward or full back then fine.
  19. I am a bit old-fashioned & don't like seeing the shirt being given to any player unless they have earned it ( especially in the League ) & can't see that on their recent performances Ibe,Sinclair or Morgan deserve a run out.
  20. Didi looked like he was on commission to get Rafa the City job on Football Focus. And just in passing, Mark Lawrenson is an absolute tit.
  21. It's an awkward one. I am totally with Jonny Cougar that would love Pepe to stay, but the problem comes if he says to the club that he has done 8 years abroad now & would like to take his family back home. If this is the case you can obviously keep him but then worry about his motivation. Hopefully he will come out strongly for staying & it isn't an issue.
  22. Bit of a nightmare with Elementary, The Mentalist & Person of Interest all finishing over the past month or so. Enjoying Hannibal but not a lot else tickling my fancy. Virgin Media not having Sky Atlantic is a pain too.
  23. Turns out that Glenn Whelan put it in Brek Shea's locker, Shea sneaked it back but got Whelan & Jones' lockers mixed up, Jones saw his arse, smashed Whelan's car up ( And got his bird to fight his battles on twitter ) & is now looking down the barrel of a big fine. Lads eh!
