    Yep you are probably right, even though they would have periods where the opposition couldn’t get the ball and they made them look like mugs. It would be like that Barcelona v AC Milan European cup final when Cruyff took the piss out of Milan for buying Desailly instead of Stoichkov. Then Milan completely physically dominated them and won 4-0.

    Yeah I’d like to see a team of tubby supremely skilful bastards and see how they did today. Maradona, Hagi, Molby in midfield. Romario up front. I suppose you could say Guardiola’s Barcelona team came close with Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Villa. They did quite well.

    Nah avocados are pretty cheap, it’s the price of beer you need to worry about. Also @sh#t waffle Ange is a Melbourne boy, so you should be ok in Sydney. You’ll just need to care about rugby league.

    This is my thinking: We are not likely to buy any players this summer unless it is to replace ones who get sold. Slot will have been given the job based on him saying he can work with the players we have. The nerds are totally in charge of transfers, they are not buying a player just because the new manager has previously worked with them. Only loser managers immediately sign players they have managed before. Smart managers like to buy new players who are better than ones they’ve already worked with. So the only way we are signing anyone from Feyenoord is if we sell someone and the player at Feyenoord just happens to be the best statistical match in world football for what Slot wants in that position. Highly unlikely.

    Hindsight being 20-20 we should have bought the best left footed right winger we could find and moved him to the middle a couple of seasons ago. I’d still give that a try I reckon.

    There is definitely a level at the top clubs where you are dealing with world famous players so you need more clout to get them to buy into you. Or to be a really charismatic bastard. You are spot on about having history in the premier league meaning nothing though. 6 of the top 10 clubs in the division have got managers who had never previously managed in England, and the other 4 all got sacked from their previous clubs (Emery, Moyes, Howe, Pochettino).

    Pretty difficult to bomb a leader out of existence. Even after the most devastating bombing of all time the US (and allies) spent 7 or 8 years occupying Japan to rebuild its economy - and it probably wouldn't have been successful if they didn't keep Hirohito in place.

    Perfect theocracy would obviously be better because it’s perfect. Now, whose definition of perfect you want to go with is a different matter. I presume it is mine.

    Obviously football is too expensive, and the owners are billionaire American cunts, but I would reckon 2% increase, which is way lower than the rate of inflation, is not worth protesting about. If people expect club staff to get pay rises in line with cost of living increases, which I’m sure they do, seems a bit over the top to protest a small rise in ticket price.

    I don’t mind the pass from Diaz, it was like the ball was a bit stuck under his feet so he didn’t want to shoot. Fair enough he should be better there but it wasn’t a terrible option. Darwin didn’t even need to pass it to Dom either, he should have just cut in onto his right and blammed it in.

    Mostly Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, but also a couple of pints of Wolf of the Willows XPA. Here’s the thing though, after my earlier 60th party post, I went to the shops. The girl in the green grocers asked me what I’d been up to over the weekend. “Went to a mates birthday party says I, bit depressing that I actually have a friend who is 60”. ”Oh, have you had your 60th yet?” For fucks sake.

    Went to a mate’s 60th birthday last night. 60th, fucking hell. 6 hours of free bar and no hangover this morning though. I might still have it.
