  1. I was referring to his ability as an individual to maintain and control the desired style of play of the team (the manager decides this), most prominently in evidence with his last club. My opinion is no one player can fully control the tempo by themselves, the team needs several, ideally all, of the players in the team to be utilising the same style to properly effect the tempo of the game and combined they control it. Some players are not able to play this style, the ball goes to them and they lose it, don't use it effeciently or the fluidity of the move slows down when it goes to them. I was making the point that, as a team we will be looking to control the tempo of the game and Adam as a player, is capable of fulfilling his role in this.
  2. Very pleased with this signing. Wide range of passing and quality from set pieces. He's a player who can control the tempo of play, and given he is coming into a team looking to control the ball and therefore the game, this is an important attribute. A leader (winning teams have a variety of them) who will be determined to prove he belongs at a top club. Seemed very keen to come here, which is essential. Think he will make a quality addition to the squad and gives us more strength in depth. Plus, we win things when there is one of us Scots in the side!
  3. A quality player who offers alot, especially going forward. Has improved significantly and is working hard to develop the defensive side of his game, to his credit. Playing on the left side will have put him out of his comfort zone and made him think more about his positioning, thus his awareness and defending overall has improved. He will get even better.
  4. Sometimes our captain's aim can be questioned, his integrity and desire to do his best for this club should not be.
  5. Samuel L Jackson and Francis Begbie Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chewbacca
  6. As a fan, one of the things you never want is to cringe when your club's manager is interacting with the press. Never any danger of that with Kenny, his media handling is reassuringly first class.
  7. Just to confirm, got a response from FourFourTwo. Apparently, the red jacket worn by Andy Carroll on the cover was specially made for him and is therefore not for sale.
  8. Apologies if the details had already been put up. In fairness, I did have a look for it before posting the thread, but did not see anything, hence I went ahead. Thanks to everyone who posted. WaltonRed - The article says that Andy Carroll is sponsored by Umbro and to visit Umbro.com. I couldn 't see the jacket from the cover on their site, though some similar. Didn't see any other buying information in the magazine itself, so I have sent FourFourTwo an email asking where specifcally the rather fetching item can be purchased from. I will post any response I get.
  9. They call it; doing the poznan, on account of them seeing the Lech Poznan fans doing it in their Europa League match. Whilst the Poles do it regularly during matches, as a form of celebration, several teams in Europe have done it through the years. Apparently, the first time it was done (of note in any case) was by PAOK fans in the 80's when they were beating Olympiakos and wanted to demonstrate their disgust towards them. So, perhaps somewhat predictably, it initially started as a derisory gesture towards the opposition. I'm sure we will soon see the back of it...
  10. Thanks for posting this. It is brilliant to see the positive progress being made. Continuity throughout the club makes it so much more likely that talent will make it into the first team. The improvements being made are due to a long term winning formula, so things will get even better...
  11. As a general rule, I tend to agree unwaveringly with melons of any description... Anything that can reduce pointless bickering on this site should be utilised where possible. For the record, most brains do also come with an in-built ignore function as well.
  12. A romp, and a comfortable one at that. Some superb team play decorated by some delightful individual performances. It's 5, but it could be more.
  13. The newest edition of FourFourTwo has a big LFC feature, makes for some very good reading. It is a kind of three part layout, the ownership/off field situation, Suarez and then Carroll. Both strikers come across as dedicated and humble in their interviews, giving the impression their attitudes are right. The words lethal and strikeforce will be used countless times when describing them over the coming goal-den years. The main article was on John W Henry and the people now running our club. There are various quotes regarding the future and what can be expected. Those involved seem focussed on making us the best club in the world again and not just winning the league, but dominating it. It appears there is a genuine acceptance that the squad is quantity heavy, quality light. More importantly, though, there is a willingness to change that. Refreshingly, no brash and bold comments which veer into the realms of the ridiculous were made, merely a sincere and informed statement of glory filled intent. There is to be greater continuity throughout the club, one comment from Damien Comolli that jumped out was, if there is a specific player likely to come through the youth ranks and make it to our 11, then the first team would swerve away from buying in that position. It lists and mini-features Sterling, Flanagan, Wisdom, Coady and Robinson as ones who are expected to make it. The plan is to have a clear uniform playing philosophy throughout the entire club, with the youth team utilising the same attacking style as the first team. Further confirmation was given that this should be a big summer in the market. Additionally, Comolli said Suarez was definitely being bought as a partner for FT (could we at last have seen the back of the dreaded net spend?!), but interestingly also said Carroll was the main target for the summer so they moved that plan forward due to the deadline day developments. It was not made clear as to whether the intended purchase of Carroll in the summer was as a replacement for FT as they anticipated/knew of his desire to leave, or whether the big Geordie hero was meant as an addition. The stadium issue is a real twist in the plot it seems. There appears a real desire to redevelop and remain in the club’s spiritual home, thus casting doubt on the building of a brand new one in Stanley Park. An issue is the council seem enthusiastic towards approved building plans going ahead due to the obvious regeneration potential in such a project. Respect and acknowledgement of his general greatness was afforded for Kenny by all and the suggestion was made that talks over the extension of his role are already well under way. Keywords were definitely things like vision, bright, success, even dynasty... From this article, summing up in a nutshell what will happen...I think we will see: Kenny installed as manager full time A mass squad clearout (nice will be given the day off) to get rid of the dross One big transfer summer to catch us up The squad places given to emerging young talent as opposed to overpaid, over the hill cack Much stronger, more lucrative commercial activity The refurbishment of Anfield A new era of greatness! The article is worth a read. Just to say as well, this was my first thread on a website which I do really enjoy spending time on (don’t let the posts number fool you, I lurk!) so thanks to everyone who contributes. We should be optimistic, the night is over and dawn is here...
  14. Brilliant post and agree. Our street had a power cut just after the first goal...it didn't come back on until the 67th minute...of course gutted to have missed the majority of the game, but delighted with the outcome! (Plus can just watch the replay on 434). Superb team performance and really pleased for Carroll getting off the mark in such emphatic style. Flanagan was solid, composed and will give a major incentive to the other youngsters. Great night!
  15. Good move. It is a marketing strategy which benefits us by providing greater exposure world wide. This leads to an increase in revenue which results in more profit, which allows for larger funds to investment in the team, which means we win things. Winning things benefits us by providing greater exposure...and the whole beautiful circle goes round again. Like a basketball hoop. Plus, this a clear signal of FSG's intention to grow the club on a truly global scale. The potential is there and we may now finally be in the hands of people capable (and willing) to tap into it.
  16. The renovation of Fenway Park suggests the owners would likely steer towards remaining at the club's spiritual home, if possible. Should this be the preferrable (and feasible) option, then it would be fantastic to remain at Anfield. 70 K should be the target for capacity. You do not need to fill the ground every week, but for a top side, there should be the ability to house this number for the bigger matches. The better the performances on the pitch, the bigger the desire for tickets. If things progress as the optimistic amongst us hope, then the way we play will see demand grow. The deposit on the waiting list is a class idea with many benefits. It would give a clearer indication of how many fans any stadium plans should be looking to accomodate. Plus any additional revenue is always welcomed.
  17. Bicycle kicks are phenomenal and part of the fantasy side of the game. Imagine though if last week, Wayne hits his one, the scum fans, players, staff, stewards etc are all in their throws of ecstacy only for the ref to be standing there shaking his head saying; no no no, that was high feet, doesn't count...
  18. That would be class! Every time a player goes down after a flimsy tackle, all you hear from the commentator is; diiiiiiiiiiiiive!
  19. A very close friend of mine is a proper Chelsea fan. He was brought up supporting them and went to the games regularly when he still lived in London. Goes down there for business quite often and coincides the trip with a match where possible. He followed them before the investment and would still support them just as much if they hadn't had it. He is a top class guy and loves the game. (I recognise he may be the exception to the rule raised in this thread!) The absolute idiots that frequent their forums and indeed the plastic fake fans who only arrived with the roubles are of course, not a complete representation of the fanbase. Nor are they an accurate protrayal of human beings.

  21. Phenomenal player who put steel and class into our midfield. A captain, leader, amazing moustache wearer. People make mistakes, some bigger than others, but what he did on the field for us shouldn't be forgotten nor the memory of it diluted by any misguided or foolish actions since. And how we would love him in our team now.
