  1. 13 and that would be 23 points from 13 games, which is 1.77 points per game - 67 points, a point off 4th last year and 4 points off 2nd. I also think we'll improve as the season progresses but realise that 71 points wont get 2nd this year.
  2. That just does my nut. Are they paying you to advertise for them? Just commentate on the match.
  3. I think Adam and Skrtel will play as they are suspended for the weekend. Kenny will probably rest most of the players that played the 90 minutes as it would have been very tough physically with 9 men for nearly a half hour so think it will be: Reina Flanagan Skrtel Coates Robinson Gerrard Adam Spearing Maxi Kuyt Bellamy Subs: Suarez, Carroll, Kelly, Wilson, Lucas, Shelvey, Doni
  4. Just watching countdown to kick-off with gary Gillespie and he said that Adam has been a revelation and said that he is even better than Xabi. ????
  5. With Skrtel starting I'd have preferred to see Flanagan on the bench instead of Robinson as Carra is the only one else that can go RB if Bale is doing well on Martin.

    Carra

Most people that have played the game know that it's not pace over 50 meters that goes first when you reach your early to mid 30's but your pace over 2-3 meters. Carra was never the quickest to cover the ground but he had quick enough feet for a defender, hence him being a capable defensive midfielder and full back in his early days. I feel that those quick feet are slowing down which puts him under pressure when turning and being run at. A higher line, less protection from midfield and more attacking full backs have highlighted this regression over the past 2 years and will probably not cease with the way Kenny has the team playing now. One point though, the mistake v Bolton was just one of those things. It was a miscontrol of an everyday interception and could have happened anyone, including Carra six years ago, when in his pomp. The mistake yesterday however, was more indicative of the increasing chink in this particular legend's armour, the lack of speed on the turn and not so quick feet. Unfortunately, there is no prostethic for the annals of time and without changing the set-up of the team, he will need to be phased out to reduce the amount of times we are caught for silly goals like yesterday.
  7. Nowadays about 20% of penalties go straight down the centre. When keeper dives to the side he has a limited chance of saving a penalty but if he stands still he will save all of the pens sent straight down the middle. If I were a GK I would stand still for a couple and make the penalty taker work for his goal.
  8. Torres benched for the chavs. The 3 forwards are Sturridge, Anelka and Mata. Their 3 in midfield are Meireles, Lampard and Ramires. Evolution at the bridge.
  9. I was on holidays last week with very little access to t'internet so was delighted (with the exception of Meireles) when I came back to see our last few days work in the transfer window. The ditching of Degen being the icing on the cake. It reminded me of the poll posted earlier in the summer asking how much we thought the club would spend in the summer. The main thing is that the King has trimmed the squad and is only left with the players that he wants. Degen, Kyrgiakos, Ayala, Konchesky, Poulsen, Insua, N'gog, Jovanovic and Meireles went out recouping at least £24 and Gulacsi, Hansen, Aquilani and Cole went out on loan. The saving in wages is about £27m, however there was probably payoffs in the region of £6m. Overall, a saving of near £45m (with the obvious benefit of a happier neater squad). In came Doni, Coates, Enrique, Henderson, Adam, Downing and Bellamy for £52m (or more if you believe the press) with the wages rising by approx £20m. This is a net spend of approx £27m The big thing for me though is the age profile of the squad now. In 4 years time you could see the same players in the squad without only Kuyt, Carra, Aurelio, Maxi, Bellamy and maybe Gerrard. With an investment per annum of £27m (and probably more if in the CL) you replace the 6 players with at least £110m and you are signing only £20m players. Kenny and Comolli have played a stormer and the club is in a very healthy state with limited enough outlay.
  10. Ferguson needed a GK and as his only good buys have been very tall, even for GKs, he was always likely to go for De Gea. The only problem is that Schmeichel and VDS were very good keepers, De Gea is not in their league and imo never will be. Just because he is 6ft 5in will not hide that fact.
  11. Their 1st team with everyone available would probably be: Szczesny Sagna Vermaelen Koscielny Gibbs Walcott Song Wilshere Ramsey Gervinho Van Persie That's 6 players including 3 defenders and the holding midfielder so yes it would make a difference. Not enough of a difference to win the league or anything but not the shambles they were today. What they need more than anything is an improvement to the squad. We all know they need a better GK, an aggressive centre back and more strength in midfield but above all I think they need a top class forward that will allow them to mix it up as they do not have the players to pass teams to death anymore.
  12. Looks like this is the group that are not in Kenny's plans: Jones Degen Insua Cole Poulsen Aquilani Aurelio Ngog. If the miracle did happen and he got rid of the lot it would still leave him with 23 senior players (inc. Flanno and Robinson) plus the kids. He (and the owners) have turned the place around in a very short time.
  13. Enrique - seems to me as if he finds this football lark very easy. I usually don't go overboard but he could be world class. Kelly - reminds me of a couple of fellas that we have all played with - better in game situations than he would be in a 5 a side. Arshavin would have give nobody problems today but Kelly looked like the man in that battle. Agger - We are just a more composed team with him in the side and he seems to have improved his concentration and got more aggressive since the return of the King. Honourable mentions to Mereiles, Lucas, Pepe and of course the little genius.
  14. "Little old Bolton used to beat Rafa Benítez [and Liverpool] every time he came to the Reebok Stadium. And they couldn't cope with it." Incorrect! 04/05 1-0 05/06 2-2 06/07 2-0 It wasn't as if the Rafa team (his 3rd or 4th game in charge) that Bolton beat in 2004 was any great shakes and Liverpool were terrible at the start of the 06/07 season (Bolton was the 3rd loss in the 1st 7 games). He just blows his "achievements" up so much it's laughable. Oh and by the way, he was beaten in the return legs at Anfield, the three times. Also, why does he not mention the away game at Newcastle when he managed there?
  15. 2 panfried boneless lamb chops with a homemade salsa which consists of: 1 red pepper, 1 (or 2) chilli(s) and 2 tomatoes - all olive oil panfried - mixed with fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil, a splash of red wine vinegar and a freshly squeezed lime. I sometimes add home made potato chips or baby spuds if extra peckish. Stupendous!
  16. Will Mancini play him up front on his own as he did with Tevez? If he does then it will not suit Aguero and I cannot see Mancini going 4-4-2 . I can't see how City are stronger than last year if Tevez leaves as he would have to play Dzeko or Balotelli up with Aguero. Saying all that, if they get a no.9 as well then he could be great for them.
  17. He's off to Oz with Clarke as far as I know Carra.
  18. For those saying Izaguirre, wasn't he due to sign a new contract with Celtic last month?
  19. GC, I didn't say VP can't play the main striker role, I said that he is not an out and out 9. It's just that when he is played there, he needs the team to play like they do and teams can cope with it. I agree they do not have a plan B but if they played VP up front with, behind, or even to the right/left of Gervinho they would have a lot more options and would not be as one dimensional as they are. They don't switch it around as they do not have the type of player to do it (barring Bendtner, who Wenger tried to turn into a right winger). Since Adebayor left they have lost this option imo.
  20. I've said it before here that I think the biggest problem with Arsenal is that they have built their team around Fabregas playing behind the front man, protected by 2 behind. However this does not suit Van Persie as he is not an out no.9 and does not have the strength, aerial dominance or pace to play up top on his own in a fast moving team. Therefore everything is measured, short and to feet. This in my opinion is why Arsenal have become "tippy-tappy". What is crazy though, is that the team is built around these two players yet they have only been fit for two-thirds of games over the past 3 years. Sounds like us when we were over-reliant on Torres & Gerrard yet they are not the scoring machines of G&T in 08-10. VP has averaged about 11 in his PL career and Fabregas has only managed 3, in 2 of the last 3 seasons. I don't think Fabregas and Nasri would be massive losses if they can buy one quality replacement for them (probably Mata). With Gervinho coming in I can see Arsenal playing a different system and Wilshere and Ramsey will get more responsibility and if Wenger can buy a good GK and the CH that they need (they have spent £22m in the last 2 years on 3), they will be a force again next season.
