  1. I never welcome diving, even when it wins us a point. It's become a huge part of the modern game the part every fan hates to see when it goes against their team. Dismissing its significance when it goes your way just encourages it more. Sod's Law suggests we're gonna get some blatantly awful dive go against us in the next 2/3 games, and then we'll go back to hating it in all its forms.
  2. The fact that our centre backs are getting exposed when we don't give them complete defensive cover just shows we need some more pace in the middle. I can easily see this being Carragher's final season, and we need to get a younger model in to take over. We also need to sort heading out, but God knows when Benitez is going to address that.
  3. Anyone watch it on Sunday? Rooney really is the worst presenter for a TV show I've ever seen. Sky clearly love him almost as much as MOTD do. Write up from this football blog mentions the World Cup finals prize for the winner, who gets to go and see Rooney play there. Hardly the easiest route to getting hold of tickets. Has street football died though? I don't live in Liverpool, so don't what the situation is over there, but near me (Leeds) never see any kids kicking balls around anymore. Doesn't look good for future generations with a smaller talent pool taking an interest.
  4. Not one shot on target? All season? How many assists does he have. If it's less than 30 (and I'd be surprised if it's more than 1), he should be out in a paddock grazing somewhere.
  5. Liverpool Line Up World Record £250m Naming Rights Deal For 'New Anfield' - Report - Goal.com Liverpool Line Up World Record £250m Naming Rights Deal For 'New Anfield' - Report The Reds are thinking big... The Times reports that Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are planning to sell the naming rights to the club's new stadium for an unprecedented £250 million. Hicks confirmed recently that he and his partner were aiming to secure a deal that would be "the most attractive in the world", saying that they would target a globally recognised company. On top of the recently sealed £20m-per-year shirt sponsorship with Standard Chartered, this latest news signals something of a recruitment drive as the Americans seek to wipe away the club's debts. The proposed new stadium in Stanley Park is presently on the backburner with the Merseyside outfit around £300m in arears, but the owners believe their bold plan will provide a huge boost for the 'New Anfield' project. It is understood that Hicks and Gillet plan to underwrite some 50 per cent of the construction costs through the sale of the new venue's naming rights, in a deal that would surpass all others of its kind. This venture is sure to attract attention in the wake of Newcastle United's move to rename St James' Park and Chelsea's controversial plans for Stamford Bridge, but the Kopites may be more understanding given that the plans are for an entirely new stadium.
  6. Birmingham is a very dangerous match at this stage. On paper it should be one of the kindest fixtures, but as this Premier League blog on Birmigham's relegation battle notes, they have had a very tough run this season and come out of each of the matches against the big 4 with narrow defeats. They have experienced players and a lot of motivation in regards getting something from this. If Torres features I like our chances. Otherwise it's going to be pretty tense.
  7. That crazy woman aside, why is it players like Obertan turn out to be such nasty little shits. He has talent, so to compensate his personality takes a dive into complete scumbag territory. UEFA have to ban him if they noticed this.
  8. The Canadian Press: Benitez has talks with Liverpool director over possible loss of earnings Apparently Benitez has met our managing director Christian Purslow to discuss finances without the Champions League. Apparently they're trying all kinds of commercial plans to raise funds, but haven't written off qualification hopes.
  9. Analysis from this boxing blog previewing Haye vs Valuev, it reckons Haye's mindgames might be good value for a bet - apparently insider information reckons Valuev has been rattled, and in this fight strategy is all important. Personally I still reckon the giant will prevail - too much power.
  10. I think they now have the funniest stadium name in Europe. While the fans will call it St James Park still, I reckon they'll be other nicknames from everyone who goes there. It's a bastard hybrid of a website and an email address ffs!
  11. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City chase Krasic - Premier League, Football - The Independent Wouldn't hurt if we got him, but don't see how we can compete with the financial muscle of City, and if CSKA weren't willing to sell him for less than £18 in the summer, can't see that coming down too much in January.
  12. To cheer myself up I'm considering that at least Everton are tipped to lose again to Benfica tonight by this football blogger on Europa League betting. Up until an unlucky defeat at the weekend, Benfica have won their previous 6 league games, scoring 28 goals in the process. And of course they took Everton apart a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully we'll have an exhibition of the brighter side of the Europa league tonight.
  13. Good to hear. This might actually be the first time I welcome an international break if Torres is strictly told by medics he can't play for Spain!
  14. Well according to this football article on Champions League betting, we have a 73% chance of defeat against Lyons tomorrow. Isn't that cheering? To be fair, this is based on generic data for away sides winning game 3 of the group stage in the CL. Don't think those odds can really be taken into account for a crisis situation like the one facing Benitez right now, or us at all in the CL considering we practically always defy expectations. But still, we're up against it and if Benitez wants to dig himself out of the flak he needs yet more miracles.
  15. A big problem we face in squad costs is the wage bill, because we have lots of squaddies who never get near the first team but drain the overall finances. Not sure why either, I know we used to have 60 players on the books, not sure what that figure is now.
  16. Agree with this. With the board in the state its in, no world class manager is going to join until it's resolved. And given Benitez's track record is pretty class when you consider the difficulty of this league, then getting rid of him isn't going to fix the problems with the club. And if we try and address a problem with the manager before the owners, all we'll get is a worse manager.
  17. It's a great video, but just to go all negative again, he missed 30% of last season's matches due to injury apparently (according to this football article on the top goalscorer), and with the amount of pressure he's under, along with the amount of hacking every opponent in the prem will be tempted to unleash every time he goes past them, I can see him missing a similar number this year. I just don't know how we can keep him fit and at the top of his game.
  18. Yeah I know Xavi had a good season but I'd still put Iniesta in top.
  19. True, at the time I was disappointed we weren't shelling that out on Villa. Hard to know how much he must be worth now though, the only reason it wouldn't be the same £80m as Ronaldo I can think is he hasn't got the same greasy poster appeal that poser has.
  20. Hans Bakke, longstanding ally of Sven from his Man City days, was appointed manager of Notts County on Tuesday and put an end to all that speculation over managerial talent heading that way. According to this football article on league promotion odds, player Ben Davies reckons he'll be a big hit. Hardly earth shattering, a player tipping his new manager for success. But can County actually make the transition up to the Premiership within 6/7 years? Be a crazy signal to other football-hungry Arab businessmen if they can.
  21. It's a shame he didn't would have loved to here his reaction to that penalty. Anyone see it? I read after it was saved it was pinged around the area in a comedic fashion, and Everton not being able to clear it just sums up their sorry excuse for a defence these days.
  22. Lucas might be playing against England for Brazil next month, along with Aurelio. Can see Gerrard enjoying himself if they're all on the pitch at the same time.
  23. This football article on Carling Cup betting reckons Ngog will start for us. At 4-1, I fancy his chances of building on his confidence and finding the net again, anytime! Arsenal aren't exactly masters of the clean sheet.
  24. Yeah, his consistency is clearly a major problem, but he has shown time and time again that when a result is an absolute must against a top team he is capable of pulling out. So his record against "world class" managers (obviously hugely controversial term, perhaps should be replaced with Champions League competing managers), but anyway, is pretty good. We have always got results like this, and then thrown away momentum with a draw against Fulham or someone more ridiculous. But the recent run is so strange because it includes big teams, so a useful indicator will be how we get on in the rest of the Champions League games. Backs against the wall time.
