  1. True, just as it would be a missed opportunity for City and Spurs. Everton have a penalty on the stroke of half-time. Saha scores. 2-0
  2. I think there's a good chance he was going down to the dressing room, he was in the tunnel with the players before the game.
  3. Yeah, I was getting pretty tired around then and had a headache after a few hours of gaming, but once it got to the end of the semi-final I knew it wouldn't be the same watching the final in the morning, so I've got it on now, I'm trying to get myself very emotionaly invested in it to bring back the feelings I had on the night. Only just remembered what an astonishing save that was from Dudek, I'll never know how Shevchenko didn't score. I've never been a big believer in fate, but if anything could make me believe in it; it would be that night in istanbul, absolutely brilliant. Yeah, a wonderfully struck volley from way out which came right out of the sky. I think they dissalowed it because Cisse tried an overhead kick in the box as their defender was heading it away before Stevie riffled it in.
  4. I've just put the road to Istanbul dvd on, watching the 1st leg of the qualifying match right now (great strike by Stevie). Might put the final on depending on how I'm feeling in a bit.
  5. Great video that, seen it many times, but still gets me all emotional. I used to watch that one before we played when I was really nervous on big european nights. I think I'm going to try and start watching an uplifting video of us every day now, however bad things get, we're still the same club I fell in love with, and we still have the memories.
  6. I'm jamie_lfcfan. I'll usually be on Modern Warfare 2 or Fifa 10.
  7. That twat host on ITV just said he's got a slight knock.
  8. Yes, Hicks and Gillet are cunts, I know that, but from a business point of view it still has to be done. None of us like it, but the Yanks own our club, and our club needs the money we would recieve for the naming rights. I'm aware that G&H could and probably would take quite a lot of the money for themselves, and I hate that, but it doesn't stop me from thinking it would be the right move for the club. The americans are not completely stupid, they're businessmen, and it's not good for any business to be in debt, so I'm sure they'd pay off a lot of the debt with the money we received. Despite the fact that they have lied about the new ground until now, I do belieive they still want to build a new stadium, so I'm sure they would be putting a lot of money into building that, and who knows, maybe we'll even get a half-decent transfer budget.
  9. Ayre is right, it has to be done. As much as I'd like to not have the naming rights sold in an ideal world, it's not an ideal world, and it's to much needed money to ignore. Just hope the name is something that fits well and sounds good.
  10. I'm watching it. I'm rooting for Coventry, they were unlucky with the late own goal and played well in normal time, but are hanging on now. That Webber should have just scored, I really rate Westwood, been quality everytime I've seen him, best keeper in england outside the top flight I think. I reckon Portsmouth are gonna get a winner.
  11. Not really playing for nothing though, is it? We are fighting for 4th place, that's a long way from nothing, if we don't get Champions League football it would be disastrous in so many ways. I think I know what you mean though, and I take your point* * If what you mean is that the players aren't playing well partly because they are dissapointed that we are not in the title race...
  12. Randy Marsh's post pretty much sums it up for me. I'm also a very glass half-empty fan, but strangely in the last few weeks I have entertained the possibility of us winning this year, and I do actually think we could*. I still think we'll finish 6th. EDIT: Randy Marsh's first post EDIT: Just read his second post, that also sums it up for me
  13. Why? I do actually love him, and I think he loves the club too, but that doesn't mean he won't go. Athletico were his childhood team and he has always supported them, but he still left, because he wanted to go to a better team with more chance of winning trophies. I honestly wouldn't blame him, I doubt he'll kick up a fuss and hand in a transfer request, but if Rafa or the Yanks accept an offer, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he decided to go. Same applies with Stevie.
  14. Thought so, finally got it in a champions league group stage game at Anfield, in front of the kop didn't he? Good strike from a free kick which had been shifted to him from about 25 yards I believe.
  15. Same with me, I think I was watching on a slow stream with foreign commentry so I had it on mute. If my memory serves me correctly that would have been Gerrard's 100th goal if it had stood, the celebrations went on for quite a while, and the next thing I saw the ball was in play at 0-0.
  16. He doesn't seem to think so Or him I sense a pattern emerging here I rest my case I actually agree with this, he has parts of his game he can still improve, first touch, awareness of team-mates, decision making, and attitude on the pitch are not quite perfect. But purely on talent he is phenomenal, I absolutely fucking love him. Class player, Class guy. sex wee!
  17. Where do you see Liverpool finishing out the year? Are you still confident the club will finish in a Champions League spot? No, i'm not at all confident. I think we will finish 6th, but I'm not giving up hope, we just don't look like a team that can finish in the top 4. The good news for us is that we have been awful all season, and yet were not far off where we need to be. But we really need to get our act together and start playing proper football. Never rule us out though, with Pepe, Gerrard, and Torres, we've got a good chance of winning any game we go into. Do you still blame the owners? RAFA asked for and received 'total control' over two years ago, so who do you blame for your poor season? As others have done, I will answer these two questions together. First of all the owners are massive cunts, and they are and will be the biggest problem at the club until they are out. I blame them for giving us false promises time after time, such as building the new stadium. I also blame them for being sneaky underhand pricks in general, and just making somewhat of a joke out of this club I love. Most of all, I blame them for getting us into masses of debt, and not taking a penny out of their deep pockets to get us out of this mess. They have lied to us the whole time and have completely taken us for a ride, there's no doubt that they are a cancer which is killing the club. However, when it comes to this season, everyone has to take some of the blame. That means Rafa, the players, the coaching staff, the owners, (and maybe even us fans aren't doing all we can do to help). First of all the players have just not been anywhere near good enough. There are one, maybe two exceptions; Pepe Reina has been fantastic this season, and even though not quite at his best, Torres has done more than his fair share of good work this season. But when you look past those two, the squad really has been poor. Something very evident this season is that we are really strugling to defend, especially from set-plays. I'm not buying the stuff about zonal-marking crap, I personally don't agree with the system used, but it has worked for many teams in the past, including us last season. So we are having problems with zonal-marking this season because we are not using the system properly, simple. Just because you are marking a zone, it doesn't mean your feet have to be glued to the floor and your not allowed to go and head the ball. The players just don't seem to know how to defend with zonal, perhaps the defence coaches need to take the blame for that. However, when it comes down to it, there is one man to blame more than anyone else, and that's Rafa. He's the one who buys the players, he's the one who brings in the coaching staff, and he's the one who's not doing his job as well as he should be. In my opinion, there are 3 big problems currently with Rafa; 1) Stubbornness - It's something which really hinders his managerial skills, because he is just unwilling to change his ways. For example, his mechanical substitutions inbetween 60-70 minutes into the game. And his unwillingness to drop certain players despite bad form i.e. Dirk Kuyt, who I do like by the way, but his woefull performances this season have stunk the place out. It also seems that the more pressure there is for him to do something (either by the fans of the media), the more intent he is on not doing it. 2) Negativity - His negative tactics are really starting to do my head in. Too many times this season he's made the wrong team selection and gone out with a far too defensive line-up. We are Liverpool Football Club, no matter how bad things get we should never, ever, be playing defensively trying to nick a goal at 0-0 in must win games, against teams such as Blackburn. 3) Player Motivation - I believe that Rafa has lost the players (not literally of course), mainly due to my two previous points that I raised. I think we are in a rut, it is difficult to get out of, and I think a lot of the players have lost faith and belief in the manager. Do you think Rafa will still be in charge next season? I'm really not sure, I think it simply comes down to whether we finish in the top 4 or not. I'm pretty certain he'll be hear until the end of this season, and if he gets us into the top 4 he won't be sacked, but who knows, he may walk if he doesn't get more financial support from H&G. If I had to predict, because I said we'll finish outside the top 4, I'll say Rafa won't be our manager by the start of next season. Do you think you can hold on to Gerrard and Torres if you don't make the top 4 this season? I'd like to think so, but I am worried. There are two hurdles to overcome if Rafa (or whoever is in charge at the time) is trying to keep them both; First of all he has to try and get them happy to stay for another year, and even if that happens, there is still the possibilty of selling either or both of Torres and Gerrard behind the Manager's back (I wouldn't put it past them). Personally, I think they'll probably both be here next season. Gerrard because he'll live in hope that he can still win a league title with us, and it would mean so much more to him that with any other club, but if we don't make any progress next season I think he could be off abroad in 2011. Torres because I think he loves the club aswell, and unlike Stevie - he owes us some loyalty, he's still young and has plenty of time to move on and win things somewhere else in a year or two. Will a ground share with Everton work? No. Would you agree with the statement that Aquilani is a waste of money? No, a waste of money would be very harsh on Aquilani, as I actaully think he could turn out to be a very good player for us. However, I do think he is bad signing. This season has been a disaster, and as everyone knows Alonso's role as the playmaker was key to our success last season, and I believe that us missing a playmaker like that during this season so far, has been a big part of our downfall. Now, Aquilani may well become a worthy replacement for Xabi, but replacing a key player with someone who will not be fully fit until the second half of the season is madness. Who is likely to join your club in the January window? and will that help? Well I think the Maxi Rodriguez deal is all but completed now, and I think that is a very positive signing. I'm not sure at the exact price (something around £1.5 million I think), but it is an absolute bargain in my opinion. He's not fast, but he's no slower than what we already have out wide (apart from Babel), and he has lots of quality. Hopefully he will manage to get Dirk out of the first team. Other than him, I don't think there will be any other arrivals. We are close to offloading Voronin and Dossena, and I think the money from those deals will go towards the Maxi signing and Reina's contract. I think it looks like Babel might be staying, just because Rafa knows it's unlikely he'll get to spend any of the money he receives for Babel. What went wrong with Liverpool's short Champion League campaign in 2009? We were shite. See the long answers above for more detail. What do you think will happen to the club if it misses out on all european compititions next year? We'll be fucked and in a downward spiral. Lose a lot of money, sell Torres, Gerrard, Pepe and others, slip down the table etc. Who would you have in a Liverpool 5 a side team? Reina Agger Yossi Gerrard Torres If you could have 3 Spurs players, who would you take? Modric - Classy, Classy player Corluka - Good versatile defender Crouch - Good option off the bench, scores goals, causes defences problems, and would help out attacking and defending set-peices. What did you do to keano!!! We didn't do anything to him. He came here, felt the pressure, didn't deliver, so Rafa cut his losses, and we went on a brilliant run after he left. I'm not knocking Robbie, I always liked him and still do, but it just didn't work out. what are ur opinions on harry redknapp and his management style? I think he's a pretty good manager, but not great. He has a reputation as a very good man-manager, which is true, but I think there's only so long 'Arry's arm round the shoulder tactics work for. I do think he's limited as a manager, good at the mid-table teams/pushing for europe teams, but I don't think he'd do well at a club challenging for the title. He does get his teams playing good football, something I wish our manager did. who do you see as the dangermen for both teams this weekend? The usuall for us; Torres and Gerrard. Hopefully Maxi plays (not sure if that's likely), and has a blinder. For you; Defoe and Crouch, especially if Carragher's moved out to Right back. Also whoever's playing left midfield could have a good day. Who will it be? Krankjaer? what position do you think yourselves and spurs will end up this year? Spurs - 5th Liverpool -6th Final score? 1-1 Gerrard for us, Crouch for you.
  18. Everyone has their own opinion on Peiterson, and although I don't mind him, I can see why he's quite unpopular with a lot of people. Regardless of opinions about him as a person, I do think it would be madness to drop him. In my opinion he's a great batsman, with the potential to become world class, and I think a batsman of his quality would be vital to any team.
  19. Bump. What happened to Ant's idea of the 96 liverbirds around the top of the 4 stands? I really liked that idea, just wondering if it was ever taken further. Did you contact anyone with the idea Ant?
  20. Any of our young players worth getting on loan at a League 2 club?
  21. Thanks, I do hope the young'uns can learn from my wisdom ;)
