There was a Christmas about '82 or so when the Beeb showed a series of Wilder/ Lemmon/ Mathau films. Fifteen at the time, and man, those films were so good. Irma la Douce, The Apartment etc I'm probably conflating things with my shit memory, but they were just brilliant- formative memories and all that.

It's superb. Walter Matthau was an incredible actor. Brilliant with Jack Lemmon in particular- The Fortune Cookie especially is just genius, and he's outstanding in it.

I'm halfway through it now, it's miles better than I remembered.

It certainly sounds it. I've started rewatching the third series, I just couldn't get going with the second. It's actually a lot better than I remembered, although I'm sure I recall it sagging badly about halfway through and being too long.

The first series captured lightning in a bottle, the next two were mediocre at best and it sounds like the last one is a complete turd, despite some rather desperate positive reviews from 'professional critics' which look to be more based around culture warring than the actual quality of the series.

Same with Friends, it's constantly repeated on at least two channels in the UK. I've tended to re-watch earlier series of programmes to remind me of what the hell was going on when a new series gets released. I re-watched all of Game of Thrones, just in time for the final series, then binned it off after two episodes because it was so bad. I started re-watching True Detective but the last series looks so bad, I don't think I'll put myself through series 2 and 3 again.
