    I think we'd all love them not to go as the risk of injury is not one we want to contemplate, but the club have to take an even handed approach to it all, and if one can go, they all can go. This scouse version of the little englander mentality gets on my tits frankly. There's a whole world of opportunity out there kids. Don't get upset if our players have ambitions to play in the Olympics, or for their country.

    Downing was miles better than Babel last season. It's not too wild an assumption to think he'll be miles better at the start of next season too. If he joins, he would start far more games than Babel next season. Babel may come good yet, but there's no guarantee.

    Sissoko and Kuyt don't run smart, they just run a lot. Barry and Alonso probably aren't that different in terms of pace. Alonso is a class player, Barry a good one.

    I don't think anyone would be unduly upset if we didn't bring Barry in. If we don't buy him, Alonso would have had such a massive boot up the arse that whether he wants to go or not, he could not possibly fail to respond. If Alonso wants to stay - he knows he is far from indispensable in Rafa's eyes, and needs to step up. If Alonso wants to go - he knows he's not doing enough to attract the sort of clubs he wants to move to, and needs to step up. So, to sum up: meh.

    We're kidding ourselves a bit I think. Babel might come good, but Kuyt is not going to improve. And some good games towards the end of the season shouldn't disguise the fact that he is some way from being a top class footballer. I just think we are a little short in quality compared to our rivals. Yossi's not really good enough either - too lightweight and doesn't influence the game.

    the depressing thing in there is where he said he doesn't have much money, and I agree with the article where it says it looks like we'll still be short of quality to challenge for the league.
