That is certainly my reading of it and what happened when similar schemes started in the States for both the unemployed and jails. In the US a huge amount of jobs went overnight when prisons started t o produce licence plates for new vehicles. I also think, if they went another way, and said that the unpaid work would be voluntary work that this may cause those who would normally volunteer to stop.

I do not think that the ref was great on the day but I thought that he was poor for both teams, both goals could have been disallowed and I thought he made some dubious calls throughout the game. As for the penalty at the end, am not sure whether he could have made that call, there was so much going on in that melee I think a throw ball was the fairest call. I think it was a great game, great advert for the game, though I felt as if I aged years through the game, I wish Kildare all the best, they played brilliantly and lost in difficult circumstances with great dignity. If we are to win Sam we need to play better but after the drought of recent years being in the final feels amazing!!

Harrington really owes Monty a big tournament now, I cannot believe that Casey did not make it, he is a superb matchplay player. I can see the logic in Molinari, he has had a good year and he will have a great partnership with his brother, they were immense in the World Cup and will be an auto pick for the 4 balls and 4 somes.

Benny's goal was square ball, then again there goal was carrying. We were so hit and miss today, brilliant one second and off the boil in the next, but a great result after everybody had written us off.

Degen going is the right decision, Johnson is first choice and we have good cover (better than Degen certainly) in Kelly, Darby and Carra can play out there. I agree with the sentiment that we have a lot of deadwood that can be trimmed around the place, not just around the first team but fringe players like Plessis and El Zhar. But while I am heartened by some of what appears to be happening I am still so wary, we have, since Jan, received about £20m in transfers, for Shelvey and Wilson we are looking and spending about £5m of that. With the other expected sales we need to see decent investment this summer.

Houllier was a great manager for us but lost the plot massively and had to go, the team that he left Rafa was poor and needed rebuilt, I am not sure that the same can be said for the squad that Rafa has left Roy, yes there are players that we would all like rid of (Babel, Riera etc...) but these players have a latent value that the Houllier squad lacked. While I think Bose (who is an utter gobshite) has done a bit of a hatchet job on Ged, he has also not done himself any favours and should watch some of the matches of his final season back and if that was the legacy he was building he is welcome to it.

Do not think that the bizzies are shit but they are some really poor ones out there. I have had a few bad experiences with them, the worst was just under a year ago, I was home for a funeral and my missus because of work was not meant to be traveling until the next day. She was pregnant at the time and was not sleeping well, she thought she heard the cats doing something downstairs and came down to see what and walked into the kitchen to a guy at our patio door breaking in, she freaked out, ran upstairs and called me, I kept her on the phone and called the police immediately, explained the situation, they promised that they would send someone over straight away and asked that they ring off so that they could get more information, I did that and called one of my mates to head over and keep my missus company as I knew she was freaking out. My mate and his missus were there in 10 mins, the police never arrived. They called us the next day after the funeral to see if they could take a statement. When I got back from the funeral I made a complaint and this really decent guy dealt with it and said that there had been a massive screw up, that the controller had misrecorded the info from the call and that the officer had been told not to attend, a correcting message was then sent to the officer to go and he chose not to as so much time had already passed. The guy dealing with the complaint held his hands up and said lessons were learnt and did I want to take it further, I didn't and I left it there. The guy then called me back and said that the officer wanted to apologise in person and was I ok with that, he came out and rather than apologise told a pack of lies and said that he had come out and had knocked the door and there was no answer and the house was in darkness (I know this is not true as my mate said that my missus had stuck on every light upstairs and had the copper spent as long at the house as he said he would have seen my mate arrive) and even half suggested that my wife was imagining part of it and was just pure nasty The real tragedy of the whole night was that a guy matching the same description that my wife gave broke into a house and attacked someone two streets down and if someone had responded to our call they may have spotted him in the locale and stopped him.
