  1. I've found the trick with the 'prep' is to add some squash and refrigerate it for as long as possible. Then, alternate glasses of it with a small cup of Bovril. It makes it just about tolerable.
  2. It's a lovely campus Keele, I've designed a couple of buildings there. It needs a bit of investment in some of the 60s buildings but the grounds and landscape are a nice place to be. They have plans to improve a fair bit of the campus too, your son might see some of the benefits of that whilst he's there.
  3. I barely drink, let alone spirits. But I used to be a spiced rum and coke drinker, loved the stuff with plenty of ice and a good squeeze of lime; I'll still have one occasionally but don't drink enough to have the good stuff - Havana 7 - in. I do also have an amazing aged rum that we got bought as a wedding gift, it's from a small batch in the Dominican and is incredible neat, with some ice. I also love an old fashioned or a negroni, basically alcohol mixed with alcohol. So, err, I think my answer to the OP is "yes".
  4. Yeah, two tracks it I switched over to Lizzo.
  5. Just catching up on a few bits from today: loved that Chvrches set, perfect synth pop for the summer. A few tracks in to MSP, a band I've never got deep in to, and this is boss.
  6. It's often to do with non-soluble fibre and/or foods that can irritate the bowel lining. Insoluble fibre doesn't breakdown in water so when your bowel is inflamed or not functioning correctly then it can't be digested. This can cause irritation, blockages, gas, etc. With an apple, the skin is insoluble but the flesh soluble, so peeling it before eating is a good idea and cooking it is even better. Food is generally not recognised as a cause for IBD but can make symptoms worse. Chew, chew, chew is the advice I've always been given, to compensate for the lack of digestion but that can leave small food parts in your bowel. A nurse once said to me that food that doesn't break down in an inflamed bowel is like rubbing sand in an open cut. I'm quite slight at the best of times and have a low BMI. I eat a mostly vegetarian diet and have always eaten pretty 'healthily' but I've been told on multiple occasions that it'd do me some good to eat more crap for the weight gain and additional sugars and salts, to help with dehydration (another fun side affect or IBD).
  7. The wife had to swap her work days so that she's in today, she's known for weeks. She told me she'd sorted kiddo's nursery and last night I asked if she'd changed the dog walker, which she hadn't. So I had to sort the dog walker last night and I turned up to nursery to find that the little one wasn't booked in at all and they had no record of it. So despite knowing for weeks, she'd sorted neither of the things that need to happen for her to change her work days. It's fine though, muggins here dealt with it.
  8. Good news mate, the proctosigmoiditis is a literal pain in the arse but it can be managed with meds. Urgent biopsies are fairly normal in this situation, I've had that numerous times in the last 15 years of having UC.
  9. On only my second Father's Day I've realised I owe my dad, who's had 37 of them, more. It's hard to fit in, and easy to make the excuse, that he lives in another city, that I have my own family, etc but then I think of those who have lost their father's and realise there is no excuse to phone it in (although me and squirt made him a delightful card and he got a quality piece of vinyl). Thinking of those of you who can't be with your Dad's today, you've made me want to be better and I'm going to see my old man next week to cook him his favourite meal and have a few beers.
  10. I went to my sixth UK Games Expo two weeks ago, a whole day of nerding out on board games and related geek culture. The only disappointment was not being able to go for the whole weekend this time.
  11. I got some homemade bookmarks from the little squirt, they're a delight. She then took me climbing and bought me stuff from the local deli for dinner. She's savvy for an 18 month old.
  12. It'd help the argument if it wasn't a misrepresentation of what actually happened: https://www.indy100.com/sport/us-women-lost-wreham-football-2660991488
  13. Mbappe Tuesday. It's happening. FACT.
  14. Delightful. Caprese salad is one of my absolute favourite things but I always save my first one of the year until I get the first harvest of tomatoes from the garden.

    Death

Sorry to hear your loss mate, we're all hear so vent and chat shite as much as you need. I've had a real existential battle with the concept of death over the last two years, a result of me getting older, my parents being old and having a kid. I'm not really sure anything helps other than talking about it (a professional helped me) and time. Grief Cast with Cariad Lloyd is a good podcast and she also has a book on the subject. Episode 1 is with Adam Buxton but she also featured as guest on his show and I found it helpful and enlightening. There is no "right" way to deal with grief, so please don't think you have to go through the "stages". You do you, whatever feels right and take people up on any offer of support.
  16. I'm not normally a praying man, but, if you're up there, please relegate them, Super-Man.
