  1. I was sure this question was asked before so I did a quick search and found this thread: http://www.liverpoolway.co.uk/forum/gf-general-forum/67853-libraries.html So I'll just reiterate what I said in that thread.
  2. Hold on a minute. We stand firm and get the price we wanted for Alonso and we announce the replacement signing in the same day. Rafa and Purslow have only done this to make Rick look bad. Look Rafa my phone is on! Can I please come back? Hello...Hello...damn phone cut me off again.
  3. Replacing Alonso in a like for like is not really possible. Each prospective replacement will have his own strengths and weaknesses. Here are a few names off the top of my head. Ideal but unrealistic Pirlo, Xavi - Either would fit straight into the team and would dictate the tempo alongside the combative Mascherano. Riskier foreigners D'agostino, Aquilani - Both have lots of potential although Aquilani may be more suited to the physical demands of the premiership. Lastly i'd like to throw in a name that you may not agree with, but here goes...Jermaine Jenas. Now before you bite my head off I'd like to say this in my defence. He's coming into his prime, has premiership experience, will help fill the homegrown quota and I think he has a good combination of pace, passing range, tackling and can dictate the tempo. I think with better players around him he could really shine. Losing Xabi is not ideal but it's not the end of the world. We've replaced better players than him in the past and we will do again.
  4. Martin Luther King Jr. JFK Che Guevara Same reason for all three, curiosity. To see what, if anything, they would have achieved with an extra 30/40 years of life.
  5. Same goes for me. The only other show that I could add was a one off, that being the latest in the Sharpe series. Even that's not as good as it was. I mean come on, what happened to all the naked ladies?* *I'm off to google Liz Hurley's boobies.
  6. It's not just a case of long vs short corners, it's about good vs bad ones. A good short corner is obviously better than a bad long one. It can catch out the defenders and pull someone away from their marker. But it should be used occasionally to add an element of surprise. In my opinion we do take too many short corners. But, long or short, we definitely take too many shit corners.
  7. Great Series, and a fine last episode. All the parallels between those on the way up and those on the way out. Definitely a case of "The more things change the more they stay the same." I'd just like to add one more thing. Thank fuck they didn't kill Bubbles! I mean I know he's made/making amends for his past, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have killed him off. For example as a bystander caught in some crossfire or, ironically being mugged by some drugged up dopefiend. That would have broken my heart. Shows like this is what T.V. was meant for.
  8. I currently have seven books on loan from my library. I'd have spent close to a grand if I'd have bought all the books I've borrowed in just this last year! Completely agree with that. The more we demand the more they supply. Libraries that show a good turnover of use get the upgrades, libraries that don't get shut down.
  9. I've been impressed with Cavalieri, especially taking into account that he hasn't learnt the language yet. I'd be perfectly happy and confident to see Darby and Insua play against the majority of the Premiership. Plessis and Spearing have shown some good touches and technique. I'd like to see more of them, especially against some of the weaker teams in the league and in cup matches. Pacheco looks quality but he's still young, so lets not rush him and put too much pressure on the lad. Maybe a couple of games in the cups against lower league opposition. I'm glad N'gog has scored early and the goals have obviously given him a lot of confidence. He's shown some good touches but he needs to speed up his decision-making if he wants to make it in the Premier league. Obviously it's early days so I'm not expecting too much from him. Any contribution this season will be a bonus. Before this pre season, I'd have picked Nemeth to be the next one to step up from the reserves to the first team. But, as has already been mentioned, he had to go on international duty and has been playing catch up ever since he got back. He's been trying too hard and his game has been affected. I think he might need a bit longer to toughen up mentally.
  10. Same for me. The first four took about two seconds to think of. Then it was a tough choice between Dirk, Torres and Gerrard.
  11. It's a pity he couldn't break through here. I don't think he's good enough for our first team yet, but he's too good to be left in the reserves. He needs first team football now. I would have preferred to keep him on a long contract and loan him out for more experience but if he's coming to the end of his contract and is not going to sign a new one then we have to sell. At the end of the day this is what our academy is for. Take the bright local prospects and give them a good footballing education. If they make the first team here then great otherwise the fees we get should be ploughed back into our youth system. I wish him all the best.
  12. I think that was more a case of euthanasia. The guy was already dying, Jamie Foxx just finished the job.
  13. Some good shouts so far. I'd also say both Laudrup brothers.
  14. With better players around him, I think Gareth Barry would prove to be a great signing. I love Xabi but he has been off his game for a long time now. With Barry, I believe we'd have a better chance of winning the league. With Alonso, a better chance of winning the champions league.
  15. If the transfer fee was right and he showed his desire to come here by taking a paycut, then it's a definite yes. I think he needs a settled situation to bring out the best in him, not a year long loan every season. Plus, he'd have Masher and the other Spanish speaking players/staff to help him settle.
  16. Thanks for the PM CrouchieBoy.
  17. I think I have the same link you had. Could someone PM me the sopcast link please.
  18. A very powerful film. I've seen a lot of revenge films. Mostly formulaic stuff about getting revenge for their mother/father/wife/child etc. I think it's mainly because I'm very protective of my brother, in certain scenes I can't help picturing it being him. This film is as close as it gets to how I believe I would feel if this happened to my little brother.
  19. Yeah I just stumbled upon it when it first came on years ago and thought it was very good. After hearing about The Wire and watching the first few episodes, I thought of The Corner straight away, obviously I then found out it was done by the same people.
  20. I think just about every show that's been mentioned so far I watch/have watched. If any of my friends have seen them, it's because I tell them about it. Have to agree, the humour was much more subtle and clever and funnier IMHO. Add that to the fact I hate canned laughter, and I could never get past Jerry Seinfeld's lack of acting ability. The guy just couldn't do angry. Out of all the shows mentioned this is probably the most well known between my friends. Partly me banging on about it and mostly because it was on Sky one so more of my friends would watch that channel. Fucking network executives. You have a great show that not only gets great critical acclaim, but good ratings aswell and they have to be greedy and try to get more people to watch by interfering with the whole reason for watching the show, THE STORY ARC! I also watched Mythbusters from the beginning. I feel they're running out of ideas so do a lot of revisits or cover myths that nobody even remotely believes. I loved American chopper and Deadliest Catch, but they have now gone stale IMHO. The first couple of seasons were quality but now they're too aware of the cameras and the authenticity has gone for me. For some reason I get a kind of buzz when I watch something that not many other people have seen. It's also more enjoyable when you encounter someone else who has seen some obscure program that you like. I watched Red Dwarf from the very beginning when nobody else my age watched it. The same with things like The X files, Quantum Leap, The office and more recently, The Mighty Boosh. If it's one thing I hate, it's when a show becomes "cool", the bandwagon jumpers appear and the network executives notice it. Then because they're either trying to create a name for themselves or stroking their ego's they interfere. I can't think of one show that has improved after this interference. I could comment on all the other shows mentioned but it's been pretty much covered so I'll add a couple of my own. Firefly - Great show that's been mentioned in other threads before. Dead like me - Quirky show about a young woman who dies and then has to collect souls for a living. Another one I enjoy watching is called Dinner for five - John Favreau hosts a dinner party and famous guests, usually actors, comedians or directors share anecdotes and funny stories with each other. I don't know anyone that has heard of it, let alone seen it.
  21. Was just watching the PFA centenary match. We should break the bank for Zola! The little man's still got it.
  22. Gerrard Torres Sami Sami just edges out Lucas for me because of the goal and the fact that he had a young partner to keep an eye on at the back. He made some important interceptions and won his usual share of headers that nipped the opposition attacks in the bud.
