  1. Don't seem to be able to edit these wiki pages for some reason, I'm sure it's not related to the above post though. *cough* Gabby Logan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia *cough* Alan Shearer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia *cough* Ryan Giggs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  2. You can see his page from April 10th on Google Cache, there's a tweet from March 25th saying they were photoshopping things he's supposed to have said. They're fucking pathetic. Michael Shields (Michael_Shields) on Twitter
  3. He's built like a barrel though, and he plays in Spain.
  4. It has changed massively, the role of a forward is completely different now because most teams play 1 up front and even those who play 2 (like us recently) play with one withdrawn. This means forwards have to be able to hold the ball up and act as a fulcrum for the team's attacking moves. Of the players you mentioned Tevez is a withdrawn forward and he's also built like a tank. Bent is an out and out goalscorer but he'd be shite for us, you need to build the team around him, I don't think players like him play for top teas anymore. Van Persie is 6'2" and holds the ball up well. Odemwingie has done alright but he's nothing special, again he's someone that wouldn't get near a top side because of his style of play. Hernandez is another one who tends to drop deeper. Maybe there'll be another tactical shift in the coming years but at the moment the one thing in common with all the top team's main front men is they can handle them physically. The lad is only 16 though, plenty of time to get the steaks into him. 19 Robinson has a pretty long throw. McGiveron's is like Delap's though.
  5. Watched the Academy Review last week and Rodolfo had a few interesting words about Morgan, said it's not goals that impress him about Morgan, that he "has scored goals since he was born" that he's now looking at him to improve his overall game and he keeps pushing him to become a better all-around player and get more involved around the pitch. Great to see that they're still pushing him even when he's on a streak like this. It sounds mental to say about a guy banging them in like he is, but I still have doubts that he'll make it, mainly over his size. The game has changed since Fowler and Owen broke through and there aren't many smally nippy goalpoacher #9's making it these days.
  6. I wonder if Reade spoke to Rafa. His take on all this should be more interesting than most considering he and Pepe were the only ones with the balls to speak out about it.
  7. If you're not in the first team by the time you're 7 you might as well move on.
  8. The Henderson family of Irish goalkeepers were/are pretty remarkable. Paddy played for Shamrock Rovers in the 60s while his sons Dave, Stephen and Wayne all had long successful professional careers. Dave and Stephen with numerous Irish clubs while Wayne is still playing with Preston having been with Villa and Brighton before. Now Stephen's own son Stephen is a pro with Bristol City. Abedi Pele's 3 sons are professionals too - Andre, Jordan and Rahim Ayew Ronnie Whelan's dad was an international as well
  9. That's scary for a lad that size. What I mean about his use of the ball is it's a bit hit and miss. He's capable of pinging great passes but at the moment too many go askew (for a midfielder anyway). Still, he's 17, for a guy with that level of natural ability I doubt there are any weaknesses he can't fix.
  10. They're both class acts, they give a good balance as well. Flanagan is a bit more swashbuckling and physical while Robinson is more composed on the ball and a better passer. We might finally see Kelly moved inside because of them.
  11. He has a bit of Essien about him alright but I don't think his use of the ball is good enough. There's something about him that tells me he's going to be a fantastic footballer but I don't know what position it'll be yet. I'd guess at CB, he's still a bit clumsy but I think it's the same type of trying-to-do-too-much clumsiness that Sol Campbell and Ledley King suffered from early in their careers rather than Bramble clumsiness. Also people keep saying he's short for CB but I think he's about 6'1. I think he just looks shorter because he's wider than the Kop.
  12. I like him, I think he offers something different to Kelly and Wilson in that he's an absolute beast in the air. He could turn into a Sami type CB. I've a bad feeling we'll let him go in the summer though.
  13. I don't think he's been properly fit at all this season. When I saw him at youth level he was almost identical in style to Gerrard, really quick and athletic and he outshone Wiltshire and McEachran every time I saw them play together. He seems a bit hesitant or slow at the moment. There's a player in there, I think he's just getting used to the step up. I wouldn't be adverse to sending him out on loan in the summer for experience if we get a couple of good CMs in. Remember, he's only just turned 19.
  14. I and dozens of others complained to RTE back in September about this, they just ignored it hoping we'd go away: RTE's Premier League shows to be sponsored by The S*n - IrishKop.com
  15. Glad it's going ahead, can only be good for our lads to play at a higher level. Chances are this will be a higher standard than reserve level. It also means more games for some of the younger reserve lads. I think the cut off point for eligibility will be January '93 so a couple of our lads won't be able to play (McGiveron and N'goo)
  16. Having someone like Code as a member of this site really does it no favours at all.
  17. ...and we "spent" £60m on those designs as well...
  18. Williams plays in midfield for Wales as well He's the #6 in this pic
  19. Lambert said it was as good a debut as he has seen.
  20. He's a quality player that lad, saw him play in Argentina a bit. He's right to be angry, fucking Anton Ferdinand is in the side ahead of him, there's no excuse for that!
  21. McCarthy is a far better footballer than Spearing already. I know Jay has done alright but I think for his sake and ours it'd be better if we let him go.
  22. I think they changed it from u15 schoolboys (done according to the September date like the domestic teams) to u16 (whether in school or not) a few years back when FIFA changed all their age groups to a January date. The lads don't have to be in school but at that age they pretty much all are. Centre-half I think.
  23. He's a more powerful runner and a better athlete, has the same quick burst of acceleration as Gerrard.
