  1. Dont know if this has been mentioned in any other thread but Gerrard pissed me off today. During the first half Alonso played a good ball into space for Gerrard to run on to. It was about 7 or 8 yards in front of him on the right. The ball rolled through to a Liverpool player cant remember who in a good attacking position. Gerrard just stopped turned to Xabi and had a right fucking go at him pointing the finger and gesturing the ball should have been played to his feet. Needless to say the attack broke down and Hull cleared the ball. Two goals or not Gerrard was totally in the wrong because you stand and criticise while we were in a good attacking position with the ball was in play. Sorry SG but some of your own passing left a lot to be desired today. Like I said two goals or not you were hardly the best Liverpool player out there.

    Moving On....

Trying to put the disappointing home draws behind us, the positive is we are still top of the league. Maybe we won't be after the Chelsea game, but we might be. Plus we're still ahead of United. Here are our fixtures now until the Chelsea game on 1 Feb: Arsenal (A) Bolton (H) Newcastle (A) Stoke (A) Everton (H) Wigan (A) So what's the solution? People are blaming Rafa for making the the wrong mistakes. What team should he be playing? Do we give Keane and Babel more action? Two potential match winners, that's what they were bought to be. Or are we always going to be struggling until Torres gets back? Despite getting to the top of the table without him for most part. Do we need to do something specific in January such as purchasing a plan b?! How can we stay in this title race. Every team has a blip in the season, some more than others. Let's just hope we can ensure this has been our poor patch and we can find some form, confidence and remain in this title race. What do you want to see?

  4. Rafael Benítez has effectively written off Liverpool's title chances even though his team lead the Premier League after 16 matches in which they have lost only once. Benítez's side have defeated both Manchester United and Chelsea during a promising opening to the season as they chase the club's first championship since 1990 but the manager is downbeat about their chances of lasting the pace. "For us to win the league we need Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal to mess up their season," he was quoted. "It is very rare that three teams all mess up. So there's no point waiting for our direct adversaries to slip up because it won't happen. They all have a lot greater financial means than us." Liverpool lead Chelsea by a point and enjoy a six-point advantage over United, who have a game in hand. Benítez's comments may be designed to ease the pressure on his squad before tomorrow's game at home to Hull after they managed only goalless draws at Anfield against Fulham and West Ham United in their past two league matches there. They were also held at home by Stoke in September. "For me Valencia and Liverpool are similar - for them to win, the bigger clubs have to do badly," added the 48-year-old Spaniard, a Champions League winner with Liverpool. "When I won La Liga with Valencia that's what happened, Real Madrid and Barcelona were in transition, so it was easier." Benítez, who is close to signing a new contract to keep him at Liverpool until 2013, has tended to be circumspect about his team's chances of winning the Premier League title, a trophy which the club's captain, Steven Gerrard, has described as his No1 target. Yet the manager indicated earlier this season that he believed Liverpool were capable of ending their long search for the championship, which last came to Anfield when Kenny Dalglish was the manager. After Xabi Alonso had given the side a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge in October, ending Chelsea's unbeaten home league record after 86 matches, he said: "To win here sends a massive message to the other teams of what we can do and tells our fans what we are about. "To come here with that mentality and showing the character the players showed gives us a big boost for the rest of the season." Football: Liverpool need a miracle to win the title, says Benítez | Football | The Guardian Surely this is a mis translation or something?
  5. I thought the good old playmaker role in a team was out of date, but according to this we have a Mølby in our team (we knew that of course, but it's always nice to get it confirmed). Opta on Alonso | Setanta What's interesting to see though is the accuracy players like Terry and Clichy has. The number of chances Lampard has created is also a bit of a surprise to me. Not that he has created a good few, but that he has created that many. (The table is a mess when it's CP'd like this, but you can check in in the link above) Player Surname Team Successful Passes Accuracy Chances Created Xabi Alonso Liverpool 1005 85.17% 26 Mikel Chelsea 957 90.88% 12 Denilson Arsenal 922 86.74% 27 Lampard Chelsea 901 85.24% 48 Fabregas Arsenal 848 81.07% 45 Greening WBA 799 89.78% 33 Terry Chelsea 792 91.03% 3 Deco Chelsea 785 81.01% 30 Bullard Fulham 784 81.50% 37 Clichy Arsenal 718 83.49% 20
  6. The Giallorossi extended their winning streak to six earlier tonight, with a convincing 2-0 win over Bordeaux in Rome. Matteo Brighi and Francesco Totti grabbed the goals for the home side, as they assured themselves of top spot in their Champions League group. Totti has been an integral part of the incredible Roman resurgence of late, since making his return from injury earlier in the season. As a result, the capital club are now undefeated in their last eight matches in all competitions. Following the completion of tonight’s match, Il Capitano spoke to Sky in regards to the knockout phase of the competition. “All roads lead to Rome? As for us at present, we are at the tollbooth. The centre of the city is still far away, but we know the roads well so we should be fine,” Totti jokingly said. “On a more serious note though, this may very well be my last chance to play a match of such significance in Rome, and so I would love to make the final. “Hopefully it will be another Roma-Liverpool final, just like it was in 1984,” he added. Totti then made some final comments concerning the side’s resurgence in recent times, and the pleasure it has brought to the club. “In the space of just one month, everything has changed. “For example tonight is the first time that we have finished first in a Champions League group, making it an unforgettable day. “What makes it even better is that after the first matchday, we were not sure if we would even qualify, let alone finish first, and so we are all very pleased with our efforts,” he concluded. The talisman of Roma will be keen to lead his troops to their seventh successive victory on the weekend, when they do battle with Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico.
  7. As a 21 year old lad I missed the glory years in which winning the Title was simply 'the norm' I've spent my whole life as a fan dreaming that one day we would be crowned league champions, but so far its the one major trophy that I've yet to see us win. In reality its the one major trophy we've never even challenged for in the past 10 to 15 years. So If/When we do land number 19, What happens then? I feel like I should just move on from football and maybe take up another wholy grail. Maybe I'll turn to tennis in the hope of seeing the next British Wimbledon Champion??? Its all very odd! I think maybe i'm destined to support a Liverpool team that doesn't ever win the league? If only to keep my interest as a supporter.
  8. LONDON, Dec 11 (Reuters) - More than 80 percent of 32,000 fans questioned in a worldwide survey said that football was their most regular topic of conversation while 49 percent said it was more important to them than even family and partners. The survey, carried out by Premier League sponsors Barclays across 185 countries, found that Liverpool striker Fernando Torres was the league's most popular player according to 38 percent of voters. Team mate Steven Gerrard was second and Manchester United's newly-crowned European player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo third. David Beckham's goal from the halfway line against Wimbledon in 1996 was voted the fans' favourite moment since the league began in 1992. Soccer-Football the top conversation among fans, says survey | Reuters
  9. Ok I'm not too sharp in general, but when it comes to economics and politics etc. I'm shite. But I'd just like to know why exactly Britain didnt change over from sterling to Euro's like the majority of western Europe did? I'm assuming it wasn't just national pride was it? Wouldn't life be easier if we're all working with the same dinero? We seem to be getting less and less for our pound in exchange rates as well so why not change it over? This may be a stupid question so I aplogise in advance.
  10. ...regarding Fernando Torres. I'll give you a clue. He's a well known poster on here. "I don't know what it is about him but I just don't see what all the fuss is about. Everyone keeps telling me what a great player he is, but I've never seen it. And he looks too much like Anthony Le Tallec. He seems like a nice lad and he's said some nice things about us, but no thanks, he's not for me."
  11. ....I think the fans might turn on him for good, despite what Rafa says. He is overdue a good performance to show the football world what hes got. I wish him the best of luck and I hope he has a stormer. If not, he might be shown the door in the summer...
  12. we weren't alowed to have 'Carslberg' on our kits last night, yet there was advertising boards round the pitch with 'Heinneken' plastered on them?? I actually like the kit without the sponsor, was just wondering though.
  13. Lucas sets one up and plays well, Babel scores, N'Gog scores, Keane has a blinder in the second half, Dossena is part of a tight defensive unit, the second choice keeper looks alright, we won the group and are top the league. Whatwegonnado?
  14. How easy is it to get tickets for these away games and can you just turn up and pay on the gate? - The Blackburn-Chelsea game yesterday looked half empty and I've hardly ever seen the Reebok or JJB full - is it worth just turning up to these games and going in their end or will they refuse you entry because you have not bought in advance? My brother in law is coming up from Aldershot and fancies going the Bolton game on saturday.
  15. SSN reporting Rafa throwing a strop at his pre match conference when asked about Gareth Barry 'Nothing to do with me, ask Rick Parry and the Board' here we go again...
  16. Do you reckon if i booked train tickets for 9 o'clock i'd be all right just getting the 10.15 train? I'm looking the cheapest way to get to Villa away and the train i'm meant to be getting is more expensive than the earlier one.
  17. Thanks to Stringvest for inspiration and the invention of a new verb: Windass (v.) 1. To ask pointless, aimless questions on a public internet forum and to punctuate the same with a range of smileys. 2. To spout nonsense in a spontaneous fashion. I Windass You Windass They Windass He / She / It Windasses Past tense: Windassed Adv: Windassably - "He was oft heard to enquire of folk which sock they put on first of a morning in a most windassable fashion"
  18. ...is the best at conkers? I reckon Captain, closely followed by Karl...
  19. As a few of you might know, the other year we played a little game in Istanbul. It went quite well and we won the European Cup. I had a ticket for that match but could not get a flight for love nor money. I was very upset to say the least but still buzzing like every other red when we lifted the European Cup for the 5th time. As fate would have it, and as a few of you on here know, I'm in Greece at the moment sunning my beautiful arse this summer. But life has a way of biting you in the arse and I won't be able to get a ticket. This is the reason for my post. Just seeing if anyone out there who can get a ticket but can't get out here due to work, flights etc could help me out. Obviously they won't go without. As a lot of you know, I'm not a newbie pisstaker so if anyone can help, I'd be really made up. Or if anyone could give me a bit of advice then spot on. Whatever the weather, I'm going to Athens on the 23rd. I'm taking the train and am in the process of sorting a room out. Ticket or no ticket. So if any TLW heads are going out (and I know you are!) let us know and we'll have a bev. I speak the lingo and that always helps in these situations, i.e to stop the Greeks ripping you off in bars etc. Anyway, I'm still buzzing. If anyone can help me in anyway let me know either on here or PM.
  20. Alright beauts. I'm getting a ticket for Blackburn tomorrow on the fan card but up to now I'm looking like the only one of the gang who'll be going. Anyway (and I know it's a bit early, but i'm getting in here first) If theres any spares on the go PM me, but If I end up going on my own i'll be needing a mode of transportation . Remember, Wig is your friend.
