  1. Just pretty much seconding what a few people on here already said. Yes it has and always will. Torres did too much damage and now through no fault of his own, I can not worship Suarez ( or any other player ) like I did with Torres. People move on but off the top of my head I think of Ronaldo leaving Man U and Fabregas leaving Arsenal who left in a nicer way. Torres was hero worshiped at Anfield like no other foreigner and was pretty much worshiped since the day he signed. He didn't really work up to it. We just took to him and he said he took to us too. Unfortunately it was all lies and I can't trust or feel the same about a player again.
  2. Agree with both these comments, that game with Leto he was pure shit. Looked light years away from a Liverpool first teamer. I would also add to best performance - Torres v Arsenal home in CL 2007-08 and worst, most games from Heskey and Morientes. Both played plenty of stinkers for us when most fans watching must have thought if this guy can play for us then so can I!
  3. He only just joined the Club and Kuyt until yesterday had a perfect penalty record, so why should he have took it.
  4. I don't like Lawrenson, the TV comment was pretty crass also what he said about LFC fans might be to blame was pretty stupid too. Nobody can have much respect for the guy but my point is relating to the "LFC made Mark Lawrenson the player he was", now the article suggest that had Lawrenson never played for LFC then he would have been a lower league player who never made the big time. When Lawrenson signed for LFC from Brighton in 1981 he picked LFC over Arsenal and Man Utd so if we hadn't have got him one of the other big clubs would have and so he was always talented enough to play for a big glamourous club. Trying to say he was an ordinary player who Liverpool somehow made into a top notch star doesn't really fit the facts. The man was a special player but a knob of a pundit.
  5. Well I agree that he is a maniac but he is better to have on your side than an opponent. He didn't get frozen out at City because he was no good, he was a fans favourite but Mancini and him did not get on. He was a Mark Hughes man. I'm pleased he has come back because he is a LFC fan plus he is decent on the wings too. He is our version of Owen at United. I think he is a good squad man and can take a load off Suarez some games. Owen is probably the better goal poacher but Bellamy has more pace.
  6. Oh and as for Gervinho "could yet be the buy of the summer" yeah maybe and maybe not too. Getting sent off on your debut isn't exactly the best way to start. Joe Cole started with a red card and look how that turned out. Gervinho seems to be yet another "Arsenal" player in that they can't last a game without losing it and getting sent off.
  7. Ok firstly no they wouldn't. If RVP was that good City would have bought him. I mean they robbed them of Clichy and Nasri. He's alright but no world beater. Wilshire is a very good prospect but "get into any side in the league" is taking it a bit far in my opinion. From what I saw of him he seems like the Arsenal DNA, great player but mentally lacking. He will a few red cards per season, can't control his head. Then there is Walcott, has any player promised so much but done so little? He has pace but so does Linford Christie and I don't see him getting a game. You have to do something with your pace to be a player and he doesn't. Last week against us he might as well not been on the park. I think if Wenger phoned up Fergie, Kenny, AVB, Mancini and offered them Walcott I think all 4 would reply with a resounding no thanks. He might get a game at Villa or Spurs but he is not top top notch.
  8. Just shows what can happen when you stay at a club too long. Clough did it, Nicholson did it, Stein did it and now Wenger has done it. I feel this has been coming for quite a few years. His second team have beaten some Championship team in the Cups and the press have screamed Arsenal's youngsters are gonna rule The Premier League for years but they have no chance. Wenger has stubbornly refused to accept that his team are not up to it. He has fucked Arshavin up. He was a little magician 3 years ago, he walloped 4 in a game past Pepe and now look at him. A central attacking midfielder being used as a left winger has completely finished him. He waited until the season started to offload Fabregas and Nasri when we all knew they wanted to be off and now they got a team so weak it's embarrassing. All his players are technically great but that's only half the game. They are also mentally weak and so will always be lacking. When he signed that 18 year old from Southampton that really just about did it. That's his typical signing isn't it. He should have gone to manage Real Madrid a few years ago to get a new challenge. He has lost the plot now and looks like a guy who has no answers anymore. David Pleat said on TV commentary today that on Arsenal's bench was some young Turkish lad. United had Giggs and Park. A few years back they reckoned that kid Vela was gonna be something special. They just loaned him to some Spanish club for the whole season so that's how close he is to Arsenal's team.
  9. Yes he has an autobigraphy out and because he probably thought who would buy it and he wouldn't make any money on it, he decided to slag off the current England manager! Other people have written some iffy things about past England managers but they don't give a fuck as a new guy is in charge but no this prick who still wants to play for England decides that a good move would be to tear into his England boss in his book! You couldn't make it up! If this guy wasn't half decent at football he would be saying "any fries with that?"
  10. Me too. I didn't have Sky back then and I listened to good old Radio 5 Live! When I knew what happened I asked one of my Nan's friends (who had Sky) if she could tape the replay showing of the match for me which I did. We finally got Sky 2 months later. I loved that day! The meanest defence in England being torn apart by an 18 year old kid! I still can see Dixon looking like he was close to crying after the 3rd goal went in.
  11. I agree, there were loads of quality players in our squad in 89-90 Beardo, Rushie, Macca etc but if you take John Barnes from us I would argue all day long that we wouldn't have won a pot.
  12. Arsenal could do with him or someone like him. They could have brought him on the other day and not that Miguel kid. I know who I would rather in my defence.
  13. Jesus, maybe he won't make it a LFC but right now he played 2 games! Players like Molby, Nicol, Grobbelaar looked shit when they started but picked it up. Blimey our record goalscorer Rushie started off with 7 games and no goals and then what happened! I bet you were one who in 1980 said Rushy was a pile of stinking shit weren't you!
  14. I recall Fowler ballooning a penalty just like Suarez in the 2000-01 season at Anfield against some shit European side in the UEFA Cup. He was normally good.
  15. Aquilani in as a replacement for Alonso doesn't look so dumb now does it! Yes it was only Valerenga people will say but it didn't stop Johnson, Kuyt, Spearing etc from looking useless. Aquilani could be the lynchpin in our side. The guy has pure class end of. He came on and put in 3 magic corners and also almost scored with a 25 yarder which the keeper did great to save. For me it's a no brainer. He must stay.
  16. He's no Johnny Barnes! I don't rate him much tbh. Adam Johnson is much better. Both came from Boro and Johnson was younger and better.
  17. I agree that McManaman and Fowler at that time were equal to or better than anything Fergie had and he would have bitten our hands off if he could have signed them. Unfortunately his players had pride for the Man Utd shirt and we had next to none who cared about ours. Evans was useless and the players ran the show. Season 97-98 we lost at home to Barnsley 0-1 (Man Utd beat them 7-0 at Old Trafford BTW) and the next game we beat Arsenal at Highbury. Some players had huge talent but others had no will to fight. No spine. Too much money. James was a disaster, Babb was lightweight, Barnes was too slow, Collymore was a prima donna and that's why we won fuck all! Man Utd never accepted they were beaten until the whistle blew and still do now, we gave up without a fight if we couldn't score in the first 15 mins. Those players thought more of their big Porsches and Ferraris than any title medal.
  18. Yeah he voted in Diouf and in his top 100 living footballers Ian Rush didn't make it. He only scored 346 goals for us and is our leading scorer! Pele great player but talks shit. In that list I recall there was a few other stinkers too.
  19. I was hoping for a yellow/red combo like we had in the 80's and again in 2006 and I was going to get one with 7 SUAREZ on it but not now. I won't be buying one of those crap shirts. It's NOT LIVERPOOL!! Like people before have said I really don't think they will sell very many at all. Maybe to foreign fans who don't know any better. Maybe that's their idea that they will sell in Asia.
  20. Loved the interview from the 80's when he said many people have made more money from football than me, but nobody has enjoyed it more than me. The mark of a great man, not just a football manager. Compare to Fergie's attitude for the difference between a man and an arsehole.
  21. Keane and Kewell with an honourable mention for Smicer. Yeah I know he scored a goal and a penalty in the 2005 final and played a big part in our 5th European Cup and now he is well loved on here but for me personally I thought he was pretty shit for 5 seasons. He was bought as McManaman's replacement and wasn't up to it.
  22. I remember the early 90's and arguments over who was best, Barnes or Gazza. It was fashionable back then to love Gazza, the papers were packed full of the guy and Barnes with Euro 88 and World Cup 90 where he hadn't done much wasn't well liked. I always said Gazza was great but Barnes could do everything that Gazza could but Gazza couldn't do everything that Barnes could do. I stand by that today too.
  23. Also wasn't the story of how LFC bought Hyypia along the lines of the scouts were there to watch a different player in the same game and Sami just stood out. They weren't even there to watch him! That is pretty much unheard of in today's game.
  24. My apologies, I read the post and took it wrong. Oh no I don't think Sami was run of the mill at all. Yes he was for sure the best buy Houllier ever made. Wonderful player. Ok then I will put it that Skrtel is not as good a centre back as Henchoz was either. We will keep Hyypia out of this and say he is without question above comparisons to Skrtel.
