  1. I've seen this, and it's actually a brilliant piece of work. His story is incredible. I don't think you can have too much respect for people who overcome really difficult circumstances in life to make a success of themselves, and respect him even more for the fact he would have been willing to sacrifice the chance of a career in football just to work and provide for his family.
  2. Kenny's right, QPR were his first club, Rafa pulled off a massive coup to get him here as every other club wanted him. The strength of the academy he restructured helped develop him, playing and learning tactics in a 4-2-3-1, Kenny gave him a glimpse in the first team, and Rodgers has really taken it on and given him the opportunity, which regardless of the shitness of our squad is a brave thing to do. So yeah all deserve credit, and bit cheeky for Rodgers if he was trying to take all of it, however he has gone from prospect to first time player very quickly. Fuck it though, there are certain players who are just born to play football, and you can see it first time they play. Gerrard was one, Rooney was one, Owen the c*nt was one, and it's the same with Sterling. They could have been playing for the Dog and Duck till they were 16, they just have the ability.
  3. I can see what they're doing, we need to reduce the wage bill as we've been out of the CL since Rafa left - they speculated with the proceeds of Torres, which if we'd have bought the right players would have had us in the top 4 - we bought an unbelievably overpriced bunch of mid table players who got us exactly where we deserved to be. So we now need to realign ourselves financially - fine. United, City and Chelsea are miles ahead of us now (3 years ago they weren't), so we're competing with Spurs, Newcastle, Arsenal, even the likes of Sunderland and Everton for the remaining 4th spot in the Champions League. And those teams aren't going to sit by and wait for us to sort out balance sheet out, they're going to invest in their team and move further ahead of us. The consequence of that is year on year we will be less able to afford, and attract, the calibre of player required, and how long will the likes of Suarez stick around? And who can blame them for not wanting to? The fact is, we need to invest in the team. The striker/winger issue is the bare minimum required. If you look at the side from yesterday, you could argue that asides from our lack of goal threat, we lost because we didn't have a specialised DM to cover the absence of Lucas (both goals came from the gap between defence and midfield), and even if we wanted to provide our under performing keeper with competition (as most competitive teams do) we wouldn't pay to do so! So the bottom line is, if we are ever going to compete again in the near future, we need to invest in the team in a responsible way, or we are going to have to accept our place as a top 10 side at best.
  4. There's no doubt Rodgers is paying for the frankly staggering frittering of the immediate future of the Club on Carroll, Henderson and Downing. If the rumours of 20 million being available to Rodgers plus sales, and 8-11 million was spent on mostly unproven 21 year old Borini, that money begins to look a bit indulgent if he doesn't perform quite quickly in my opinion. Alot of pressure on a talented but raw player. Maybe would have been better placed using it on someone a little more proven, but we shall see. Regardless of what Rodgers was promising though, the kicker is Carroll. Clearly if money wasn't a factor he'd have kept Carroll, at least as a squad player. There's no way he'd have let him go if there wasn't a replacement promised..so something has gone on which doesn't add up. Too much decision making which makes you want to bang your head against a brick wall.
  5. "Highlights from this game were obviously Pirlo's ridiculously good penalty, and also the BBC commentator observing "Cassano powering one into Ashley Cole's backside" after the full back blocked a shot from the Italian. Cole is used to that kind of innuendo, he's had that kind of thing said about him for years, but hot-headed homophobe Cassano is going to go fucking apeshit when he hears about it. " I'm in tears....
  6. Wow, miss these days... Sami's reaction at 1:58 speaks volumes
  7. When we play 4-2-3-1 we're a totally different team. For me the side we put out yesterday is our strongest, minus Shelvey/Henderson for Lucas, and Skrtel for Carragher. The 2 sitting deeper in midfield puts Gerrard in the part of the pitch where he's been best for his entire career, in the final 3rd linking with the front men..when we play 4-4-2 and you see him picking the ball up off the centre backs and playing sideways passes I despair. Also having Downing and Bellamy left and right gives us different angles of attack, and means our 2 quickest players can stretch the opposition. And Suarez is a wizard, anyone who says he can't play as a lone doesn't understand football.

  9. I would concur, Rafa is THE man for this job. And there's no chance he'll get it..and no other candidate on the horizon.
  10. QPR will get the wins they need at home. It's Wolves and Blackburn, and then Bolton, although...they play Villa next week, IF they won that one they might just might suck them in at their expense.
  11. "I remember a few years ago when Liverpool beat us 4-1 at Old Trafford. That genius [Rafael] Benítez said they had planned to beat us by playing long balls behind us. Remember that? Clown." Sir Alex Ferguson expecting more twists and turns in title race | Football | The Observer
  12. I think alot of the problems we have experienced this season are due to the tactics we are using. 4-4-2 doesn't suit our better players, and we don't have the players to play 4-4-2 anyway. Dirk Kuyt isn't a right midfielder, neither is Jordan Henderson. Playing 2 in the middle has frequently seen us over run in midfield, and Adam doesn't have the legs to play in it. Playing Gerrard in a 4-4-2 means you automatically lose the sides biggest goal threat. It also means you don't have the dual protective shield in front of the back 4 that 4-2-3-1 provides, which stifles Johnson and Enrique from getting forward. If we played ............................................Reina............................................... Johnson...........................Skrtel........................Agger...................Enrique .......................................Spearing.....................Henderson.................. Kuyt.......................................Gerrard.....................................Downing ............................................Suarez............................................. We'd have one more games, i'm sure of it.
  13. He's not as good as Johnson at full back, probably never will be. He would be good enough to win a league with though, and if he keeps working with Clarke I think the natural progression for him should be to eventually become a centre half of top 4 quality (think he played there for ressies/England U21's?)
  14. ..........................................Reina...................................... Johnson...............Skrtel....................Agger.....................Enrique ..............................Alonso................Mascherano/Lucas..................................... Gerrrard................................. Suarez.........................................Bellamy ............................................Torres....................................................... Looks a bit familiar that one...

    Rafa

Exactly to the post above. For a sense or perspective.. a couple of years ago we beat Real Madrid 5-0. Look at the Real Madrid line up that drew with Barca tonight. Look at our side that drew with Man City tonight to reach the league cup final. Think about how this team would perform against Real Madrid. And tell me we're making progress.
  16. We have spent the money to be able to at least get into the top 4. Before the last injury ridden, money problem season with Rafa we were part of 'the top 4', and last season doesn't count due to financial crippling, and Hodgson for the first half. Kenny has a side that is solid at the back (signing of Enrique excellent), and clearly the work on the coaching ground has paid off as defensively Johnson, Skrtel and Agger are the best in this league. The midfield is 'functional'. Not amazing, not awful. Where we fall short is, that as we have a 35 million striker that can't score/doesn't fit into our style of play, and a 20 million pound winger who isn't pacy, doesn't have the mentality to play at a top club which is why he's 27 and never has before, and generally isn't up to standard/doesn't pull his weight. Kenny, as much as I think in terms of how he's got the team playing, and is managing the team, bought both of those in, and unless the board backs them to replace them (why would they) will die by both of those 2. Because we still need those 2 players to compete, and those 2 will be moving on in the next year or two for a fraction of what we paid = poor managerial decision/failure

  18. Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has brushed off talk of a crisis at Anfield, insisting everyone is 'very relaxed' and focused on the top four. Three successive home draws, including being held by new-boys Norwich and Swansea, have seen Kenny Dalglish's side drop off the pace at the top of the Premier League table. But the Wales striker insists there are no real issues at the club and nothing to worry about. "We have slipped up a little bit in recent weeks, and this is no disrespect to Swansea, but if we have an ambition to finish in the top four, we have to win those types of games," he told the Daily Mirror. "But we do have the players here to reach the top four and get in the Champions League again. I feel this team will get stronger and stronger as the year goes on. "Despite the results at home, there is a great atmosphere around the place, it's very relaxed, but always with the view to getting into the Champions League next season. "I've really enjoyed being back at Liverpool, I've enjoyed working with a quality group of players. "Training is very intense, but very enjoyable, and there is a feeling we will improve. "Rafa Benitez's team was very good too and very efficient. "But I do feel this team - with Kenny's stamp on it - isn't too far off Rafa's." Bearing in mind the team Bellamy played in was the one with him, Pennant, Crouch (at his peak) and Kuyt, who were sold to bring in Torres, which created in my opinion the only side we've had in 20 years which was as good as if not better than anyone else in the league (bar arguably with the right manager the Roy Evans team of the mid 90's if they'd not been managed by Roy Evans) that's a pretty damning indictment of where we are currently
