  1. That in itself doesn't mean much if they don't have the talent to go with it. Look at Souness and Evans at LFC, both from different backgrounds, but knew the club and contributed to it's success as player and coach respectively. Klinsmann was a great player and had played for B Munich, but didn't last the season as manager of B munich in his first season, in his first managerial role. Villas Boas is very talented.
  2. Also Guardiola at Barca. Admittedly, on both occasions they had a team full of quality players, but we could also assemble a quality squad with a rigorous recruitment drive.
  3. Thanks a lot for that matfabian. Good read. Much appreciated:thumbup:
  4. Villas Boas talks to Matt Hughes in tomorrow's Times about Mourinho, Porto, Bobby Robson and coming to the PL. Anyone who has a subscription, if you could paste it on here, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Johnson can't defend. Torres is always injured and would disrupt the team's momentum as a result. If we assemble a squad capable of challenging for major honours, we need to replace both.
  6. That stat used by some is v misleading mate. Bernard Diomede, for example, has got a world cup winners medal!
  7. Agger is always injured and is a liability as a result. It's not like he has performed consistently season after season to prove that he is a top class CD and as good as some make out.....due to injury again!
  8. Cannot believe Kenny deems Poulsen worthy of wearing a Liverpool shirt.
  9. Thought best to ask in advance....anyone know any streams that will be up for this game tomorrow? As they're not supposed to be posted, please PM me if you know of any. Thanks.
  10. He looked quick, a good tackler, and sound technically. He's raw, but seems to have a lot of the attributes you would want in a CB. He just needs to fill out a bit though.
  11. Parry and Moores were supposedly Liverpool fans.....don't you people ever learn?
  12. Anyone know if there will be free highlights of H & W phone in session on liverpoolfc.tv afterwards, if not anywhere online to watch live or highlights? PM me if necessary please. Thanks.
  13. When Dave Jones was on Everton's books, during training the ball went into Bill Shankly's garden, I think he used to live near the training ground or something, Jones went to retrieve the ball and Shanks said to him: "Son, winners never quit, and quitters never win!" Dave Jones mentioned this after those allegations were made against him and he and his family went through hell, but managed to come out the other side. I found that very touching.
  14. Thanks a lot for posting that. One of his funniest quotes was when Alan Kennedy, after having a nightmare game for LFC (don't know if it was on his debut), and he apologized to his team mates in the dressing room, acknowledging that fact that he had been poor, I think at half time, and Bob's instant response was: "they shot the wrong bloody Kennedy!" That really made me chuckle.
  15. Heard ex player and manager Martin Allen talking about Wickham on the Radio. He said he saw him play in the flesh as a 15 yr old and instantly saw star quality. He immediately contacted Tottenham and W Ham to sign him up! His assessment of the player, for what it's worth - strong, two-footed, good technically and mobile - and good enough to be on the books of any of the top Prem clubs.
  16. I know there is a thread on it, but as it's transfer rumour thread; anyone heard anything about Gillingham's 16 yr old Striker Ashley Miller who we were supposed to be in for, the story died as quickly as it appeared?
  17. This would be great statement of intent. However, he has already had a couple of injuries this season, so it would be best to look into how that clears up. I don't want to appear paranoid, but we have had far too many players over the years who are constantly injured.
  18. Would you mind stating what system he plays and what Marseille's style of play is like? Also, noticed anything about his ability to adjust during the course of games and if he is tactically innovative in any way? Cheers.
  19. While he may not be the long term solution either, for close observers, what do the likes of Poulsen do that Spearing (cost nothing) can't?
  20. I haven't seen much of him to form an opinion, but here's an interesting input on him by someone on RAWK: I work at the DW Stadium as a matchday steward and have watched him for 2 seasons now, every single home game and i've been mightily impressed. Figueroa is pretty much everything you'd want in a full back. I'd say he's stronger defensively than attacking, which is what a full back should be, but thats no detraction on the attacking part of his game. I remember him being in a straight race for the ball with Drogba against Chelsea last year when Wigan won 3-1, the ball was about 25 yards ahead of them both and he kept pace with Drogba all the way and then completely outmuscled him, that tells you all you need to know. He's much more than that audacious lob against Stoke. Good in the air and equally adept at centre half, i think we'd be getting a real bargain. I've said all summer he would be my first choice LB, even ahead of Cissokho, who i believe he is better than to be honest.
  21. Eccleston saw quite a lot of the ball, but didn't make the best use of it. From what people who have followed the youngsters more closely have said and what I've seen, Amoo looks far more talented of the two.
  22. Good suggestions. Although I would prefer Romelu Lukaku for a few millon extra, along with Defour AND Eden Hazard! I think with a bit of wheeling and dealing they are obtainable. The Belgian trio would be absolute dynamite!
  23. If Gerrard leaves, Standard Liege's Steven Defour would be one of the players I'd sign and would want him to form a 3 man midfield. I'd appoint him captain too.
