  1. “Mistaken identification.” Hmmmmm? I wonder what the nature of that mistake was? Was it a mistake made after anxious scrutiny of who was in the building? Or did they just see their faces and fire?
  2. Hahahaha. The state of this lying fucker.
  3. 13 year old killed in that sword incident in Hainault. Heavy, that.
  4. “could” ”taking into account the overall context” Personally, I don’t find the comparisons between Israeli slaughter in Gaza and the holocaust to be particularly helpful. While they both involve the brutal, intentional and targeted slaughter of innocents because of their ethnicity there’s definitely a distinction that needs to be drawn between the slaughter of thousands by bombing and shooting etc and the rounding up of people on a scale never seen before or since to transport them to death camps where they were then killed on an industrial scale. So, I’d say the IHRA definition would be satisfied if making a comparison between the murderous actions of Israel and the murderous actions of the Nazis - the holocaust. But, I’d disagree that all comparisons between the current Israeli government and the Nazis - two right wing, nationalist, racist regimes - are automatically antisemitic. I don’t think that the IHRA definition goes that far, in its wording. The late, great Hajo Meyer, in his book The End of Judaism: An Ethical Tradition Betrayed, thinks that a comparison between contemporary Israeli politics and Nazi Germany (pre the commencement of the “final solution”) is a legitimate one. And a comparison that should be openly discussed. He provides many examples of why the comparison is legitimate - all of which stand up to scrutiny. I repeat my stance on the unhelpful comparisons between the holocaust and the heinous actions of Israel. But, that aside, if Israelis find the more general comparison with Nazism to be offensive, the best way to avoid it is to elect a non-right wing government that doesn’t (in some ways) act like Nazis.
  5. It’s good to hear that the leader of the opposition has come out fighting against plans to cut benefits for people with mental health issues and has confirmed that, if elected, his government will reverse or won’t pursue such a horrible policy. Er, hang on….
  6. This approach to interviewing advocates of genocide should be adopted by a lot more people in the media.
  7. I wanted to pick two options. The delusional optimist in me wants to say anything can happen and it’s not over til it’s over. But, I picked the Everton game. After Palace, there was still a small chance as I believed that Arsenal had difficult games in Villa (which came true) and Chelsea and Spurs (got that wrong!) And I believed that City could drop points at Spurs and maybe Fulham. That may still be the case, but I think that the points lost at Everton meant that we’d still trail City by a point or two if we won our last 3 or 4. But the bluenose blerts can piss off with the “you lost the league at Goodison Park” shite. The loss there was the final nail in our coffin, but the league is lost over a season. We lost the league with cheap draws/bad officiating causing draws at Luton, Brighton, the two against United and the home draws against City and Arsenal. If we just won one or two of those draws, we’d still be in with a chance of winning the title. Particularly if one of those hypothetical wins was in the draws against City and Arsenal. It’s diminished slight due to our own performances of late, but there’s still a lingering sense of being robbed by woeful refereeing too.
  8. I keep on flip flopping on this. I initially thought sell at a market value. But, I’ve just looked at his goal figures over the past 2-3 seasons (this current one included). And, I’ve looked at that graph that Code posted too. Then I’ve took into account the stop/start season he’s had with international games and the travel and time away from our training regime and team that that involves. And the injury that has hindered his season too. Despite all these factors, he’s still on for a 25+ goal season for us. Not to mention the assists. And that’s all while not quite being at the top of his game. His statistical history shows a player who pretty much guarantees goals. And, while Code’s graph shows decent figures for Nunez, he represents a cautionary tale when it comes to Salah. It’s all good selling a player who is on a bit of a downward trajectory, performance wise (are there temporary causes for this though?) but does their big money replacement (because, if sold, he’d need replacing with a new signing) offer a guaranteed replacement of those goals? Nunez hasn’t offered the expected goal return and has been abysmal at times. Who says that wouldn’t happen with any hypothetical Salah replacement? Or that they’d need a couple of seasons to settle? I'm like that fella in the pub on the Fast Show. I just don’t know and keep on changing my mind. At the moment I’m back to keep him, but maybe try him in the number 10 role or centrally.
  9. Just announced that Shishkin has died after suffering a hind leg fracture. Unsure if it was a racecourse, gallops or just a freak injury.
  10. I’ve gone for the first sell option. For a fee of around £60m plus. I decided as I did purely for footballing reasons. I think the whole row with Klopp thing has been blown up entirely out of proportion. Nobody knows what was said. Nobody knows if Klopp instigated it by saying something out of order to Salah. Nobody knows if there’s been a bit of tension brewing before the West Ham game. What Salah said to the press afterwards is fairly ambiguous and innocuous. If both parties are happy that a line has been drawn under it, then the row shouldn’t really be relevant to any decision to keep or sell. Mané had a fair few strops and directed his dissatisfaction directly at Klopp a few times. I don’t remember the same desire to sell him when this happened. But, footballing wise, it just kind of makes sense to sell now. His value is only going to go down from here. He seems to have dropped a level. Even if he is still getting 20+ goals a season for us. His creativity seems to have improved. But, his overall play and what he brings to the team’s attack has gone downhill. There’s been many a game where he’s been isolated on the left and not really got into the game. Plus, there’s been many instances of attacks breaking down whenever the ball goes to Salah, with him either having a sloppy, heavy touch or running down blind alleys. He’s been a very frustrating player to watch at times. And, we, as a club, have done fairly well in commanding high fees for attacking players whilst also knowing when it’s exactly the right time to get rid. I think Salah has been absolutely brilliant for the club, but it feels like we’ve now reached that point in his Liverpool career.
  11. It depends if they base the fee on his ability and form or on his name and standing it’d add to their domestic league.
  12. His form is the real concern, for me. And, that alone, is the reason that I’d consider a silly offer for him in the summer. As for the touchline stuff, it’s not the greatest of looks, but nobody knows what was said, by who and if anything had happened earlier in the day to cause a bit of friction between Salah and Klopp. A player should always respect their manager. But, Salah is a human. One who is used to being an elite athlete at the top of his game. He’s had a frustrating season with injuries and a relatively big drop off in form. That’ll frustrate him. And maybe make him a bit snappy. The “fire” comment is quite vague and could mean anything. Klopp has said it was dealt with in the dressing room and there’s nothing more to add. If Salah’s conduct in the coming hours suggests that too, then we should draw a line under it and move on.
  13. Just been released by Ebbsfleet United after making just one substitute appearance for them. It’s mad reading some of the earlier posts in this thread then looking at how his career actually panned out. He had a few moments for us that suggested he’d be a decent player. But, where did it all go wrong?
  14. The more I read about him the more I’m starting to think that Slot could be a good appointment. It’s probably already been posted but this article portrays him in a good light. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/apr/26/arne-slot-liverpool-feyenoord-philosophy I’m intrigued to see how we adapt to the likely 4-2-3-1 formation too. Klopp’s 4-3-3 served us well. But, my one complaint about us under Klopp is that we could, at times, try to get to goal a bit too quickly. Trying to do so in 1 or 2 passes (a lot of these moves involving TAA) when maybe 3, 4 or 5 more precise and shorter passes might’ve been better. It’ll be interesting to see if we use the number 10 as a key role in building up our attacks. Trying to feed the attacking 3 higher up, rather than going for a more direct pass from deep.
  15. Ben Gvir involved in a car accident. Sad news… That it was only minor injuries.
  16. Another one to add to the list for the baby killing savages. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/26/palestinian-baby-rescued-mother-womb-dies-gaza-hospital
  17. Another potentially exciting and game changing development.* *Or, another ruse to help bring about the zombie apocalypse, depending on which side your bread is buttered on, re: mRNA vaccines. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/apr/26/cancer-mrna-vaccine-melanoma-trial
  18. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13351441/Unbelievable-moment-policing-minister-Chris-Philp-leaves-Question-Time-audience-gasping-asks-Rwanda-Congo-different-countries-Senior-Torys-howler-hes-asked-deporting-migrants-African-warzones.html He only had to look at the country by country Um Bongo consumption statistics to answer his question.
  19. It’s duly noted that the “ban it” crowd who appear every year when Aintree is on haven’t uttered a single word about banning London. Or building sites. Hypocrites.
  20. I’m not sure I see Szoboszlai as a number 10. Not like a Maddison, Odergaard, De Bruyne, old school Coutinho type. He doesn’t seem to have the top level creativity to play that role.
  21. Potentially interesting comment from Carragher in the post-match analysis. Although, that depends on whether he’s been tipped off by insiders at the club or was just spouting shite. He said that with Edwards coming back he thinks that Liverpool fans might be surprised by the amount of changes at the club over the summer and clarified that he meant amongst the playing staff. He suggested that Klopp has had a greater influence over recent transfers and that Edwards may think that they’re not as good as expected and could be moved on. Who could he be referring to? Gakpo? Gravenberch? Szoboszlai? Nunez? Endo? Mac Allister? Mac Allister aside, you could make a case for selling the rest. But, they’ve done alright in their first season. Could they be important parts of a team in some form of positive transition or is it more a case of them not being good enough? If the new management structure doesn’t fancy them, is it best to get rid now and risk setting us back a year or two by signing new players and bedding them in? Or should the new management structure persist with them and see if there’s any improvement over the next season or two?
  22. I’m looking forward to next season already now. I’m quite intrigued to see if Slot will go with his usual tactics which appear to involve a “number 10” advanced midfielder. Can we expect to see a new player coming in in that position? Or will we see a current player utilised in that role - Gakpo, Elliott, a returning Carvalho?
