  1. Watched it this afternoon 4-1 v Stoke 82/83 season, in front of only 30,000.....then 89/90 season away v Millwall - and a 2-1 win. Final v Crystal Palace 80/81 season. Like being a kid all over again.... and it's sometimes easy to forget how bloody good we were.
  2. His centre back partner Reinharz had a shocker....all over the place!! Felt sorry for Sami..
  3. I know it's a cliche, but I actually use to eat, sleep, breathe football. But not anymore, I still have the slightest of interests but realised years ago there were other sports. Take this summer, Test matches, Wimbledon, The Open, Epsom, Tour de France are merely fillers to the ‘real thing’. Can’t believe how one eyed we’ve become to one sport. There used to be a lull in the summer but not anymore, and it’s not just the red tops. The country is becoming, or has become a one sport nation. Not healthy. I just want someone, either a journo or a former great pro to say it like it is; " This modern English football is crap" - but of course they're all riding the gravy train. Last week on Talkfootball, Cundy was saying it's better now than ever..... Football is just a corporate fest and sold out. I blame Sky, Italia90, and Nick Hornby....
  4. Had a good game, but let's not go overboard - it was only Villa - hardly Inter or Barca.... How many Champions Leagues, Euros, World Cups are won with a 'big No9'?
  5. Unlucky more than a mistake, you try catching a cross with the sun in your eyes. But because the clueless idiots at Sky said it was a mistake, everybody jumped on the bandwagon.
  6. His ‘performance’ in the Greece game somes up everything wrong with English football and the English ‘football culture’. The worshipping of him yesterday on Talkfootball, and talk of statues and Knighthoods was cringeworthy. The idea of a ‘farewell’ game is a joke – did Matthews, Finney, et al get one??
  7. Apart from Liverpool, I'm going to ignore the Premier League (forget the quality, but feel the money), I've finally had enough. I'll try and follow the Bundesliga, and big Sami of course.
  8. Why are the majority of the football writers in this country a bunch of cocks? Yet other sports journos don't seem to be - football doesn't half attract them.
  9. Every year the demise of football is predicted, yet never happens. Surely it's got to happen soon, it can't go on like this. Portsmouth should have been wound up, any other business would have been. I too would like to see the German model over here, and rest of Europe, but there is no chance.
  10. I'd say it's a good move. Bringing team-mates from Astana, including Navarro who did such a great job in the mountains. Seems like a lot of the current SaxoBank team will join the Schlecks, including Jens Voigt. However, Spartacus stays for one more year. And SaxoBank are staying for next year as well; Team SaxoBank-Sungaard. Sky need to hurry up and sign a few to help Wiggo for the mountains....
  11. Personally, I reckon the CBT should be compulsory for all learner drivers. They simply have no clue what it's like riding on the road - and drive completely oblivious to bikes.
  12. Rossi has more charisma in his little finger than the whole of F1, which is why Bernie is desperate to get him in a Ferrari. Hopefully he'll decline and go the WRC route.
  13. Why is anybody surprised? Contador isn't in the same form this year and is taking any opportunity to gain time. A truly classless display - yet again from a Spanish cyclist, they have form. Remember last year in La Vuelta, Evans punctures in the mountains - so what does Valverde do? Nothing, carried on... And what about the Contador interview - didn't see him? He rode right past him and kept looking over his shoulder. I hope Andy pulverises the snidey little Spanish shite!
  14. Ah, Jerez 2005, an epic race, Gibernau's face on the podium said it all.
  15. I wouldn't totally agree with that - he actually got dropped on Ventoux towards the end, but managed to hang onto his advantage over Frank by 5 seconds i think. While last year was a great achievement, the parcours was easier, and he was a unknown quantity. This year there's been a stronger pace up front which has seen contenders shelled out all over the mountain. If he gets a top10 finish, it's still a good result. Still think Bertie will make his move in the Pyrenees, or in the final ITT.
  16. It's almost as if Hansen is a caricature of himself now. Was a very good pundit when he started, now deals in cliches, as for Shearer....... Whatever happened to Danny Baker...??? I'd say the pundits this World Cup have been mainly awful - you need a mix of former players, journos, etc
  17. It was 1990 all over again. Negative, cynical football...., but the best team won, but the country who invesnted Total Football let themselves down - can't imagine Cruyff, Rep, Haan, Neeskens resorting to such 'tactics'. And I don't want to hear people say 'bring on the Premiership'.
  18. Since winning the World Championship Cadel has really ridden well, I can see him getting a podium again, however, as you say, he doesn't have that instant acceleration, and is more like a big diesel, and just keeps grinding away. Must say they really are tough blokes, and you really have to admire them.
  19. What a day that was, took half a day off work to watch it and I wasn't disappointed. The pave strikes again, with poor Frank being the victim, out of the Tour. Thought Bertie might struggle, but dropped about a minute, and Lance who was ahead of him then punctured and dropped behind. Good rides from Evans, A Schleck of the GC contenders, helped by Spartacus, awesome as ever. Also, a fantastic perfomance by young Geraint Thomas, 2nd overall, and leader of the under 25 jersey.
  20. What a borefest, what's happened to grass court tennis? Remember serve and volley? They may as well be playing on a hard/clay court. Baseline tennis........
  21. The Greatest Annual show on earth, if it's half as good as this years Giro then we're in for a cracker. Can't see past Contador, but Andy Shleck needs to forget about his brother and try to attack Bertie. Stage 3 could be explosive, using parts of Paris-Roubaix. Can't see Wiggins improving, though I'm hoping I'm wrong. Anything that ramps up the interest in UK can only be good.
  22. Ah the Premier League, aka Greed is Good League, set up specifically to help the England team!! Well it's obviously been a success, hasn't it? The poor little blighters can't deal with a 'boot camp', all say aah! Grow up and stop sulking! I can't understand all this 'fighting, passion, heart', talk - it doesn't work. The majority of the players have finally been found out for what they are. Yet come August will still be lauded, but not anymore - it's about time this fawning over average players stopped. Also, I hope the FA, Club England aren't immune from flak - just what does Sir Dave Richards do, or ever done. Another chinless wonder at the FA.
