My worry is though that this is the perfect excuse for the media to ignore how the mancs get so many dodgy decisions, and how this shit decision changed the game, and shift the emphasis into another lengthy, fruitless debate on technology in the game. The FA would never allow it, because they wouldn't be able to hide behind the "well the ref is only human" excuse any longer. They'd actually have to start making big decisions, and in my experience, they don't like doing that.

We need to break the culture of awe they seem to have over other teams, referees and the media. Most teams think they'll do well to get a point. Most referees keep them happy because these are the profile of games they want to referee. Most of the media are in awe of ginsoak. I was hoping Rafa was beginning to break the spell they seem to have over others, but it doesn't seem to have worked as well as we'd hope. We'll need to chase them all the way and lay down a marker for next season. As for Howard Webb: he was a fucking disgrace today, and a disgrace on Tuesday. Whilst he wasn't the single cause of us being held against Arsenal, he played a part. Today, he simply gave the scum everything they wanted. I feel like writing to the FA and paraphrasing Graham Taylor. "Your goon just cost us a shot at the league title. Do thank him from me, won't you?"

I hope that after his second half showing last night, as well as Dirk's, after they swapped positions, convinces Rafa to play Yossi in the Gerrard role more often.

Perfect player for us to sign I reckon: he could play as backup to Torres, in the Gerrard role in his absence, or either of the wide positions. There'd be no massive drop in quality if Torres or Gerrard were injured, and he's good enough to play instead of Dirk. That said, I can't disagree with those who say he isn't worth £32m. He isn't worth our record transfer plus half as much again.

Hiddink is known in the Netherlands as "Lucky Guus" and this game is good evidence of why. There was no great team talk, no inspiring performance by moonface to drag them back into the match. It was a freak goal and a free kick that shouldn't have been given.

There was a shot of John Terry in the stands mid game. I got this surge of rage, even though he was totally uninvolved with the match. He's just got that kind of thing about him.

Made me laugh. They're nothing, but then again I didn't have to sit through that match and go away from the ground amongst them. Well done to you and the other travelling reds though mate, thought the support was top class.

Think positive. They win, they get a tricky tie against the Arse (always raise their game against the scum) or Villarreal (who they've never scored against), and it's more games in a congested season for a squad that looks fucked already. Go out and it'll just be plain funny.

Too right, he was really poor tonight - had Gerrard been fit, and able to ping some shots at him from range, we might have had some joy (and that's no dig at Lucas who I thought was quietly effective).

Is right. He's a top keeper, but he seems to be a top fella as well. I like him at the club, and all the indications seem to suggest the rest of the dressing room feels the same.

We committed twice as many fouls with more possession (it was 60-40). Work it out: the referee was awful, truly dreadful. He broke up the flow of the game in the second half which let them back in the match, and despite all my pride, it's so frustrating. And you just know the press will blame our "dodgy foreign goalkeeper" for letting them back in the match.

For the 4th, Drogba shunted his marker in the ribs. Roles reversed, he'd have been down like a sack of shit. They got a throw in though, and scored. The referee, after giving us a penalty, fell for every single example from their vast repertoire of cuntery tonight, and fucked up on injury time. But enough about them. I echo the sentiments everywhere through this thread: I'm fucking proud to be a red. Tonight and tomorrow afternoon show what we're about, and I struggle to put it into words, except: players, staff, fellow red men, I salute you all.

He's a fucking duffer: he's been immersed in British footballing, media and social culture since he was pissing his nappies in Govan in the 40s. Rafa's been here for 5 years, having spent his previous 40 in a completely different culture. A bit of an advantage, duelling a foreigner in your mother tongue isn't it? The Bolton game won't have shattered their confidence: they're far too experienced for that. But it does show what happens if you apply some pressure - a couple of quick goals and even the best sides will crumble. But then, we already knew about that!
