1. Sorry to my SS for not getting my review up yet. It's been hectic since getting back, sorting out new work after losing a few classes and trying to get my new house in order. I'll definitely do it before the Friday deadline, though. Just want to say that I'm loving them, by the way. There have only been a couple of 'okay' tracks mixed in between the many wonderful surprises; lots of new music will be added to my collection as a result. Thank you very much.
2. Fair play, the weather will be heating up quite nicely but not too mental so beers in the sun won't get too messy too quickly. There are loads of Irish bars dotted around for watching *cough* you know what (St Paddy's on Gran Via has lots of tellies), or there's Liverpool, which is a bit out of the way but is dead cheap. Or there's a Yank-run bar called The Portland, that serves decent, home-made bitter (honestly, it's a heaven send after a constant flow of lager everywhere else), where we watched a few of the g*mes last year*. The Portland and St Paddy's are just round the corner from each other and are in the Canovas area where there are loads of places to eat and carry on drinking afterwards. The area, as a whole, doesn't stay open too late, though. edit, *not last year... my, how time flies.
3. If anyone was going to come, that's when I'd recommend doing so; 15th to the 19th of March. It's just mental; street parties, paella, burning everything and fireworks, fireworks, fireworks. Don't bring your pets. The Westin is by far the plushest place in town. It's where Barca stay everytime they come. Alas, I've never been privvy to enter but I often walk past thinking "One day... ". With regards the restaurant, I'll get back to you. I don't normally eat money-no-object but, although it's pretty down to earth, Valencia can be quite glamorous and there are definitely some swanky places to get food. I teach a few rich business men so will ask what they think. That'll be the Westin, I reckon.
4. Downloaded my CDs (plural... crikey!) yesterday so will give them a listen and get the reviews up sharpish. Like the look of the tracklists a lot. Out of the two albums 'Guitar Shit' and 'Funky Shit' the former is going to get listened to first as I've neglected the world of the six string for all too long. Cheers, SS.
5. Well remembered, Mr Tuebrook. I am indeed still here and a glorious day it is too. Is it a group of adults or are you bringing a team of kids over? If it's the former, I'd recommend hiring a couple of apartments instead of going for a hotel. You can get some pretty tasty places, that sleep up to ten people in the centre of town, at better rates than your average hotel. I know a few families that have stayed in these places and the ones I've seen were fantastic. Self catering, obviously, but get yourself to a supermarket when you get here (Valencia has the cheapest in Spain, no less) for breakfast and booze and you can eat out cheaply enough. There aren't loads of places to see; the City of Arts and Science is a must, plus the old quarter, the Central Market, the main squares etc. Get a paella on the beach for lunch, la Pepica is the best taste/value ratio but book in advance. Depending on when you're coming, hire some four people pedal cars and cruise up the 10km park that runs through the middle of the city (that used to be the river till it flooded too many times so they moved it). I, personally, wouldn't be arsed about the Oceanografic (sorry Robbie); the dolphin display is amazing but, at the end of the day, it's just fuck loads of fish. If you're feeling a bit nature loving, I'd recommend the Bioparc, an open air African zoo (elephants, rhinos, lions... that sort of shite). I went last summer and loved it but is obviously dependant on nice weather. Eating out, I'd recommend Canovas, drinking in El Carmen, Canovas or Ruzafa, smaller clubs down Blasco Ibañez and bigger clubs down by the beach. The beach clubs are closed in the winter, though, so, once again, it totally depends when you're coming. When and who are you coming with? edit - kopboy, never heard of those clubs (but then these days I'm not much of a clubber) but you're right about the Liverpool bar.
6. My sincerest apologies, Secret Santa, whoever you are. Jon has informed me you sent my CD but it just hasn't arrived. Sorry for leaping to conclusions, it's just... I've had my fingers burnt before, y'see.
7. Ha! I'd be proper stuck if I got someone who didn't like Hip Hop. I'm very happy you like it, mate. Though I feel a bit cheaty as I probably put most of it on the GF Hip Hop thread throughout the year. You're right about the Y'all So Stupid track, by the way. It's off the album Van Full Of Pakistans from 1993. It just keeps popping up on my mp3 player so I had to stick it on. Also, Raashan Ahmad is the MC for Crown City Rockers so if you liked all those three songs then you can't go wrong. The CCR songs are from The Day After Forever and the RA is from The Push (other favourite songs are Give Thanks and The Crush ("Hip... Hop... Saved... My... Life")). I recommend the Red Astaire album, Nuggets For The Needy, to anyone that fancies it. It's one of those spliced up numbers, where they take two or three songs, bang them together and soup them up. The whole album, in my humble opinion, works really well. Anyway, thanks for the positivity, Stu, and Hip Hoppy New Year.
8. Monty, you cad. It was indeed from me. I laughed heartily when I saw I had you again. The postcode is from where my parents live these days, as it would appear Spanish post let me down again, so I had to send it from England. Just sent a tracklist to Jon, having not read this thread and presuming you were still in the dark, as I'm back at home now. I would have sent it earlier but couldn't remember all of it. I'll send it you now. Glad you enjoyed/are enjoying it. I also hope you appreciate the great lengths I went to for the artwork. You could sell that shit some day. With regards my own SS, I've been let down again (boo hoo). I understand it costs a lot to send shit out to Spain, though, so I'll not hold it against whoever it was. Plus it's always just heaps and heaps of giving-related Christmas fun making the CD in the first place (cheesy smiley, laughing smiley, hug, hug, thumbs-up, santa smiley, dead dog).
9. Good programme. Warning! The following content is NOT WORK SAFE. Click the Show button to reveal. I reckon Saul's bodged lie detector test, where it registered him saying he did pass the razor to the prisoner (don't remember his name) before he got stressed and bolted from the room, is going to have something to do with it too.
10. Got the afternoon free, got a recipient lined up. Only one thing for it.
11. I haven't been on here in a while but would be well up for getting involved again, if that's okay? I didn't get one last year, but had a real rum time making Monty a merry mix last year. 12. Just did a month off the booze and felt remarkably chipper throughout. I got quite drunk last night, however, and now I don't. There's definitely a connection there.
13. I'm reading that at the moment, possibly as I thought I should, and am quite enjoying it.
14. The Big Lebowski is my favourite film in the world. I think it's flawless. Therefore I think it's their best film. There's many on the list I absolutely love, though.
15. You could always do a 'Frank-out-of-Home-And-Away' (or FOOHAA for short).
16. Haha! Your reasonableness becomes you.
17. You're right, Seen Been has been the main culprit, followed by his two warmongering lads. The imp has been pretty good, I'll give you that, as has the bastard son in The Black. I must say, though, I'm Warning! The following content is NOT WORK SAFE. Click the Show button to reveal. glad the king's dead (just incase people haven't seen it yet) as I thought he was also particularly shite, with his coiffing and general royal abandon. Same with that dragon dude. Jofri does my head in, as do the girls, as they're just a bit too stage-school for my liking. Maybe it's just being used to seeing big-budget American productions or films that obviously don't have English stage school accents and I can't hack it. Having said all that I am enjoying it really.
18. Do what? You actually hate someone on an internet forum that you've never met? You are a mental.
19. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed it mainly so far but I think the acting has been awful; shockingly wooden at times with some dreadfully hammed-up Northern accents and a kind of amateur dramatics feel throughout.
