  1. It lacks a certain charm or character for me. Loved the West Wing, could really get attached to any number of characters, that's not the case with House of Cards in my opinion.
  2. I've seen a few options regarding what do next in Iraq, boots on the ground, air strikes, drone attacks etc but I am yet to come across the most civilised option; diplomacy. How about talking to ISIS and finding out what they want. You never know, it might work. If splitting Iraq up is the best solution then why not do that? It certainly isn't a successful nation in it's current form.
  3. Didn't know this shite was still going.
  4. Went to Finsbury Park to see the Arctic Monkeys a few weeks ago. They were incredible. Fucking brilliant gig.
  5. Issuing passports to people based abroad is the killer. I can't believe this has been moved to the UK, it was always going to cause trouble. They'll be issuing loads (how many people lose their passports when they're away?) and on top of that, it will take much longer for them to be sent out. Crazy decision in my eyes but again, it hardly surprises me.
  6. When you say 'HMPO will say staffing levels haven't dropped', I'm sure senior management will say that, and the government certainly will. The rank and file, those actually doing the work, won't. When you consider the extra work they have taken on from abroad, it's effectively another decrease in staff. If more work was taken on, more staff should have been brought in too. The blame definitely lies with the government in my view, rather than the faceless, nameless 'HMPO' who seem to be getting the blame from most.
  7. I hope Mickelson wins. I've backed him, Scott, Day, Mahan and Kuchar. Only a pound each way on each but should keep it interesting.
  8. I think there's potential for them to score runs though. Cook and Bell have obviously done it before, Robson has performed well for the Lions and Ballance and Ali have done well in county cricket. Time will tell though, it could easily go the other way.
  9. Does anyone know what the staff cuts were like in the Passport Office under this government? I hate the way HMPO automatically gets the blame but I've no doubt they'll have lost vast numbers of staff in recent years, like every other civil service department. I know where I'm laying the blame.
  10. For those going through the 'mid life crisis', do you think it has anything to do with how young you were when you settled down? The mid life crisis seems to hit those that married and had kids in their early to mid 20's. I'm 31 and am nowhere near either getting married or having kids, and I feel fucking great. I always thought I would feel like I'd missed out on things if I settled down too young, which would have had repercussions down the line, so I didn't do it (although I did live with my ex for 6 years). And I don't even mean missing out on anything special, just going out, going to gigs and going the f******l, stuff like that. I am moving to Abu Dhabi next year though, which would have been a much harder decision to make if I'd had a wife and kids, and I may have missed out on that. The upshot is, I can't see me having a mid life crisis when I still live as I did when I was in my early 20's.
  11. Blowing your nose in the shower with your hand.
  12. I'd have picked him but the selectors seem to want him to build confidence in County Cricket before recalling him.
  13. The squad looks better than I'd feared. I'd leave Jordan out personally and go with Woakes at 8. His bowling seems a yard quicker this year, no way should he ever bat higher than 7 though.
  14. The best things I've ever done in London are the tours of Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament. Everyone stands outside them but it doesn't seem that many actually take the tours. You can only go in at certain times of the year though (I went in August) but both were superb. Only about £15 each as well.
  15. I'm going round a mates from work watching it, a few of us getting together for it. I have no idea who'll win and to be fair, I don't really care. I think they're both a pair of whoppers.
  16. Chris Jordan needs to work on his run up for me. He just waddles in and gets absolutely nothing from it. If he could sprint in he'd gain an extra couple of yards of pace and be a much better bowler. I wouldn't pick him for the Tests until he does that. I'd have Finn back in straight away, stop messing him about and just let him bowl.
  17. He looks the part (physically) but so did Audley Harrison.
  18. That'd be cool mate, thanks. I'm currently working my way through the Harry Bosch series, reading 'The Narrows' at the minute. Fantastic series, have loved each and every book.
  19. I've been planning on getting into the Charlie Parker series for a while (after reading the recommendations on this thread) and have just noticed that the first four books are available as a collection on Kindle for £3.49. That's a superb offer so I've just downloaded them. I look forward to making a start.
  20. As I've said before, Prince isn't for me but I'm made up everyone's had the chance to see him. From what I've heard he's unbelievable live.
