1. Even if he didn't mean it, the fact he never quickly apologised or checked to see if she was okay, shows that he's a prick. I hope someone twats the shithouse in the next game.
2. That approach question reminded me of the 'funny' scene in Goodfellas! :-)
3. I see that Man City have agreed a £17m fee with Lazio for Aleksandar Kolarov: Manchester City agree £17m deal with Lazio for Aleksandar Kolarov | Football | The Guardian Can't see Wayne Bridge being happy on the bench if this guy is gonna be their first choice left back (besides money, I thought this was the reason he left Chelsea). Anyway, I'm sure Man City would rather him on the bench than sell him to us, but you never know.
4. Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but even before he pulled up tonight, he was clearly off the pace. I thought this quote from Oliver Kay on Twitter was interesting: I'm surprised Torres even went up the stairs to collect his medal, never mind celebrating afterwards. I hope it's just a minor strain. Ste
5. In his original article about Jamie Carragher phoning him, he said this: Then in one of his latest articles, he refers back to the telephone conversation with this: From mumbling, to putting Jamie straight - that's some turnaround! In a year's time, we'll be hearing how Jamie apologised for getting the wrong end of the stick with him! Having said that, I was one of the pro-Rafa people (unless we can get someone better in!) and I do usually enjoy his articles (except for when they're a few thousand words too long, and his annoying habit of putting entire paragraphs in brackets instead of just starting a new sentence or using a hyphen...like this! ;)).
6. You mean they don't call it a Quarter Pounder with Cheese?! :)
7. Reading through that report has made me feel almost sick and a bit shaken, together with a mixture of sadness and anger. I have a son of a similar age to what poor James Bulger was, so maybe I'm reading that and thinking of him a bit too much. I wish I'd not read it now. I knew right from wrong at 10 years old, and most importantly, I knew what I was doing at that age. At 5 years old maybe not, but at 10 years old, without doubt. And for that reason, I say to hell with these two bastards. I have no sympathy with them whatsoever for the reasons behind why they did what they did to that poor little James. It was pure evil, and I hope they somehow get their come-uppance one day. Fuck them, and fuck all this talk about 2nd, 3rd and 4th chances. I hate all this liberal do-gooder bullshit. I'm not coming back to this thread to join in any debates (I don't even want to think about this again after I submit this post), so I just want to say that anyone who still sympathises with these two murderers, or still feels that they deserve a chance to get back into society, just make sure you read that above report from start to finish and try to imagine (not that anyone can) the pain and suffering that poor innocent James must have gone through, and what his family must have gone through when they found out what had happened to him. I just don't understand how anyone (particularly those who have young children themselves, or young kids in the family) can read that report, about the injuries James suffered, and not feel the same way as I do.
8. I enjoyed those videos! Felt he came across as a really good speaker, a good red, and the whip-round joke was pretty funny! I was actually quite surprised as I used to think he was an awful TV presenter when they had John Barnes Football Night on Channel 5. I'd get him on the backroom staff - he'd jump at the chance and I think he'd do really well at motivating and getting into the mind of some of the players, he just seems that type of person. i.e. if Babel stayed, a role model like Barnes would not only command respect, but would no doubt make him believe in himself and work harder?
9. You can't have a thread about teamtalks without a few YouTube videos of John Sitton!
10. Here's a Bill Shankly quote: If there's any truth to these rumours, then maybe some should remind Gerrard/Purslow about this and the 'Spirit of Shankly.'
11. He's a fat baldy prick & I can't stand the fucking look of him.*He's either on the take or just hates LFC. We need to start saying more about shit refereeing that goes against us. Saying nothing might be dignified, but we live in the real world too. When making 50/50 decisions, a referee is more likely to give a decision in our favour if he knows he's gonna get called out on it on TV or to the press if he doesn't. That's why Man Utd get so many decisions in their favour, as officials are shit scared of Ferguson. Time to start sticking up for ourselves by speaking out, meeting that head of referees (Hackett?), and having a word with the referees directly. I've seen a lot of nailed on penalties not given for us this season, not to mention Torres getting kicked all over the pitch when he's played.
12. Whilst the club is in a state of turmoil, he should be keeping a low profile & training hard. Not fucking about in a music studio all evening a endlessly tweeting people to come & watch him.
13. I'd like to see him challenged further on the above. Since when have contract renewals been part of the transfer budget, or "new money" as he likes to call it? The above stinks of him trying to move goal posts and confuse issues by manipulating statistics. He should just be straight with us as people don't appreciate bullshit or people trying to be slimey. Tell him about Parry and the 'numbers game' as an example of that. As for the instalments, this works both ways. I expect that the money we received to have been paid in similar instalments to the money we paid out. I guess we're due another instalment of the Alonso money towards the January transfer kitty by now then?!
14. I'd be worried in case that bitter blueshite Warren tries to pull strings to give the Stanley Park site to Everton instead. i.e. Make out we've had enough chances to start work & now a 1st quarter of 2010 to do something.
15. Shared £10m or £100m? If they made £525m profit from the sale or Center Parcs, and Purslow was one of the founding partners of MidOcean Partners, then I'd have thought they'd have made a lot more than £10m? Though I guess they have shareholders that they give a big chunk of these profits to. I was just reading Purslow's biography on the Business Week website. These business people are just on another level when it comes to their dealings, the circles they mix with, the companies they're associated with and the boards they sit on.
16. Out of curiosity, how much of a personal fortune is Purslow reckoned to have then? I'd have thought he'd have been worth a few million but the above makes me think he's a lot better off than that?
17. Thought he handled that fine. Always good to see a smile on his face when answering questions like that.
18. I'm still waiting for Frank Ribery to join us!
19. Well, so much for my boxing predictions expertise! I think I'm a shot 'predictor' since the days when I won the Howitzers Boxing League (some boxing predictions competition) and got my name shouted on on Eurosport by Steve Holdsworth! To be fair though, I thought Cotto would be a lot better than he was. Only just noticed this quote from Freddie Roach earlier in the thread: I thought Freddie might have been playing mind games but yet again, he seems to be telling it like it is. I don't know how long Freddie Roach can continue but if I was a boxer, I'd definitely want him in my corner. Compare him to David Haye's trainer in the Valuev fight for example, who was giving Haye the impression that he was about 10 rounds ahead when I felt he should have been encouraging him to be a little busier (though he got away with that in the end). You need the best people in your corner without doubt. I can't really explain it, but Pacquiao just doesn't impress like Mayweather does, or like Roy Jones in his prime did, or even like Naseem Hamed (at his best before he left Brandon Ingle) did. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair as coming up through 7 weight divisions is amazing, so fair play to him. There needs to be a match-up with Mayweather now. I don't think Pacquiao would have a chance but he's proved me wrong in his last few fights so maybe he will again!
20. I think I might fucking join you in retirement mate!
21. I think Cotto will definitely win this one. He'll be too big and strong for Pacquiao - I see Cotto as a 'live' fighter who's going to be ready for this. I also don't rate Pacquiao as much as the hype that surrounds him. There's some big names on his record in the past 3-4 years, but the biggest of these names have all been well past their past when they fought him: Hatton, De La Hoya, Barrera, Morales, etc. He's still one of the best around today (you can only beat who's put in front of you etc) but I think he's also benefitted from getting the right fighters at the right time. I also think Freddie Roach is one of the best trainers around.
22. I have four stories to add - the first three might have happened to me 10-15 years ago as a teenager, but I'll deny them if I'm ever questioned about them in public ;) and the 4th story is from a friend who I used to work with. == 1. I once left my hardcore playing cards in the bathroom and my Mum later found them. Ooooh the shame. But at least she never asked me why I was spending so long on the toilet again! == 2. I once left a hardcore VHS tape in the video by accident and the next morning, my Mum turned it on by accident. I think she was expecting Barney for my then 2 & 3 year old brother and sister, but got some german porno. I actually got told off for that one as my little brother saw some woman fingering herself and was saying 'ooohh, ooohhh!' He's 16 years old now and seems to have no long-term psychological problems at least! ;) == 3. This one was bad at the time, though at least there was nobody there to witness it (but I'll tell it anyway whilst I'm on a roll...) - I was once having a posh wank in the bathroom and made the fatal mistake of tying a knot around the johnny and flushing it. Or should I say, trying to flush it! The knot made a big air bubble and it was like trying to flush a balloon down the toilet. I tried putting loads of toilet roll on top of it but this fucking johnny kept floating back up after flushing! I couldn't leave it or else my parents would have seen it, so I had to stick my hand down the toilet to get it, pierce the bubble with my finger, then wrap some toilet roll around it to make it flush. Fucking horrible! == 4. This is from a friend who I used to work with (I wouldn't have believed it otherwise but he's not the sort of person to bullshit). He went to a wedding doo a few years ago with his mate, and this mate was going out with the sister of the bride. He said that all through the night, there was some woman at the wedding who kept flirting with his mate, even though his bird was there and was obviously fuming about it. Anyway, later in the night, his mate goes the bog and this women follows him in. He was a bit pissed anyway, and ends up shagging her in the toilet cubicle. They must have been overheard as people were coming out of the toilet laughing and joking as you'd expect by overhearing this, then this lad's bird clicks on that something is up and her fella is missing, so goes into the toilet to see what's going on. She knocks on the cubicle and basically catches him at it with this other woman, so all hell breaks loose. But this is the best bit. This other woman must have been on her period, so this guy comes out of the toilet with the bottom half of his white shirt covered in fucking blood! And he's got his bird's entire family there to see it as they've all came around to see what all the commotion was about! This other woman later gets battered outside by the the bride and her sister, and the lad nearly gets battered by her Dad. I wouldn't have normally believed something like that only my mate was there and saw it. Funnily enough, we were in Leeds station a few months ago and saw the girl who was cheated on that night. She was fit aswell, and for some reason, took the boyfriend back a few months later, even after he had cheated on her that night in such a humiliating and scummy fashion, in front of her entire family. Ah well.
23. I think a lot of this is outside show, and people have the right to pay their respects in their own personal way. However, like yourself, I think I would have stood still! Either that, or I'd have stood still and creeped around slowly like the wall does for a freekick, hoping that nobody noticed! :-)
24. I'm going for Haye, in a Roy Jones v John Ruiz style fight. Haye is really chinny though. Even though Valuev isn't a big puncher (especially for his size), I think he'll dig more than hard enough to drop Haye, if he can catch him.
