  10. Thought the following excerpt from a Richard Williams article, contrasting Liverpool under Benitez with our successful teams of the 80s, makes a lot sense. Seems that every season under him, we always have a bad run, a bad sequence, a bad result before it clicks under pressure. And that can't last.... "The trouble with Liverpool under Benítez is that they produce results in big matches only when goaded to a frenzy by the consequences of their own earlier inadequacies. In recent years we have grown accustomed to writing them off, only to see them respond with performances – against Manchester United, Real Madrid or AC Milan – epitomising the triumph of fighting spirit, of a refusal to accept the odds against redemption. In truth, however, the old Liverpool – the Liverpool of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish – seldom needed to rely on the emergency turbo-boost provided by sheer desperation. Inspired by Shankly's example, a succession of managers created teams that played with an intimidating power and a relentless tempo but never forfeited ingrained virtues of vision and accuracy. Eventually the habits of simple, accurate interplay in attack and ironclad discipline in defence ran so deep that it was seldom a problem, even on a black and white television, to identify Liverpool at first glance. Benítez's perennial fidgetiness, by contrast, seems to find an unintended expression in his team's infuriating inconsistency. Stability on the pitch can only be undermined by instability off it and, although Tom Hicks and George Gillett cannot fairly be accused of withholding funds for Benítez's player recruitment, since their takeover in February 2007 the emergence of divisions between the two and the failure to fund the new stadium project can only have had a debilitating effect on a team struggling to live up to the demands of a club accustomed to judging itself by the very highest standards. For everyone at Anfield, an uncertain future now awaits."
  11. Possibly too later for RiS, but as a pointer to others - Sainsburys have a 20% reduction on all consoles as of today.
  12. BBC NEWS | Entertainment | US pie-splattered comedian dies US pie-splattered comedian dies US comedian Soupy Sales, who had no less than 20,000 pies thrown at him during a career spanning half a century, has died at the age of 83. Sales died in a hospice in New York after being admitted a week ago, his former manager Dave Usher said. During the 1950s and 60s, Sales was one of the most instantly recognisable faces in the US, Mr Usher said. Having pies hurled at him became his trademark act and he acknowledged it would be his legacy. "I'll probably be remembered for the pies, and that's all right," he said in a 1985 interview. Sales was born Milton Supman on 8 January 1926, in Franklinton, North Carolina.
  13. Voted out now. No point in giving him the rest of the season as our main targets have probably gone now (CL or PL), and any new manager could steer them in the direction of competing for the top 4. If we wait till the end of the season, then we can write off the next one as a "bedding in" season...
  14. Franz Beckenbauer adelt den Finnen-König Sami Hyypiä - Sport - Bayer Leverkusen - Fußball Bundesliga - Bild.de Hyppia: Emperor Franz knights the Finnish King You old Swedish person (RiS?), this Finn is strong... Sami Hyypiä (36) – the victor from the 0:0 in Hamburg. The defensive oldie was once more outstanding. Bayer keep a clean sheet for a sixth game (four in a row). ALL THANKS TO SUPER-SAMI! Franz Beckenbauer (64) was in the stadium as a co-commentator for „Sky“. In BILD the Kaiser knights the Finnish king: „Perfect! The bloke is unique. I know of few defenders of his class. I was admiring him during the international game last week. Hyypiä makes the right decision in every game.“ 83 percent of challenges won. „On top of that 100 percent pass accuracy," says colleague Gonzalo Castro. So good at 36. And so fit! „Sami's fitness levels are better than a year ago with Liverpool“, says Finnish national trainer Stuart Baxter . „How he manages three games in a week is impressive," says Bayer-Coach Jupp Heynckes. Personality and collector of titles. Just what Bayer needs! „I enjoy every game, even if it was not an attractive game to watch against Hamburg," says Hyppia, who had a headed chance saved by Frank Rost six minutes before the end of the game. „If I had scored it would have been a perfect evening. I am a quiet bloke who does his job." Club boss Rudi Völler: „His calmness is a good influence on the team.“
  15. Nicely summarised. Whilst sounding entertaining, it aint worth the £30 a year surcharge..
  16. How do they justify that - I mean you are already shelling out for the console, the game, your broadband etc.. Is it vastly superior to the PS3 capability?
  17. Retrospec - Retrogaming at its best Most either stream or download in seconds. Just playing Atic Atac (oh, the memories...)
  18. Excuse the basicness of this question, but I may be in the market for a games console (for the kids, COUGH), and would look at either the PS3 or Xbox. As I can imagine a few evenings of playing on my own after wife has gone to bed, I would want to take advantate of some online multiplayer action..say on FIFA 2010 If I understand things correctly, with the Xbox I can only do this by paying a monthly subscription (for xbox live) on top of the console and game (?!) - with a PS3 I can do this for free, correct? Seems like a fair old supplement to have to pay when other systems do it for free... As I say, sorry about the rudimentary question, but the last console I had was a 64!
  19. First they said he would never be fit, Albert, Albert Then they said he would be really shit, Albert, Albert But after he put on a shirt in red He immediately fell over and was pronounced dead A-l-be-r-t-o Aquilani, Liverpool's deceased number six.
