  1. Floki is great but special mention for Lagertha too.
  2. Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a go next time I am playing. I'm also wondering, if anyone is playing this on the PC, would a controller be slightly easier than the keyboard?
  3. The quests have all been pretty solid as far as I have seen. It certainly doesn't feel like you are 'grinding' in between the main quests as some games seem to do. There also seems to be consequences to your actions too which a lot of games either get wrong or don't bother with.
  4. I'm no where near completing this yet but what I have found with the combat so far is that most enemies can be handled purely with the sword and rolling on 'normal' difficulty once you have found the right rhythm. Admittedly I am pretty crap at these types of games and it doesn't take much for me to lose that rhythm and fall flat on my arse. I get these moments of panic where I completely forget which buttons I should be pressing. Where a monster is too tough check out the bestiary and it will give you information on the right sign and oil to use. This is generally enough to tip even a tough battle in your favour.
  5. With the amount of plot lines they got through tonight anyone else wondering if the battle for Winterfell might be pushed forward too? That we might see it this season rather than the beginning of next year's? I am no way certain but I am starting to think it is possible.
  6. That's a pretty good summary. The only thing I would add is that Bolton's wife is rescued and of course that stab in the back. The 'wife' in the TV series is different and I think the rescuer will be different too. Wasn't sure till they moved Brienne to Winterfell. I'm guessing that will be her purpose this series. As for the outcome on the attack on Jon I do have this theory. I think he dies, is resurrected by the red priestess, and then is freed from his vow to the Night Watch. Free to take a Wildling army and kick Bolton's arse.
  7. Considering how awful the last two books were (it's only the final third of the last book which starts to shine with the kind of quality that the earlier ones had) HBO have done well. A lot of the additional characters and story lines had been ignored which in my eyes is a good thing but the fact remains, not an awful lot happens and there is nothing HBO can do about that. I think it will be the next series when things really start to kick off. I do have this theory but as I don't know how to do the spoiler tags I'll leave it for now.
  8. Anything with James Spader in my book is worth watching. Never warmed to the female lead however and yes it can at times be predictable but I do enjoy the central intrigue to the series. I can't remember now when but at some point you realize that he isn't giving these names up randomly but there is a purpose behind it. It's fluff but entertaining fluff. And yes the music is good too.
  9. I know the game got a mention in the Skyrim thread but I thought it deserved it's own thread. Here's the final trailer for the game. I know this isn't in game footage and it's easy to be fooled but if I am honest I am finding it hard not to get a little excited. Thought the Witcher 2 had it moments but it was with out doubt a flawed game. If the prerelease reviews are anything to go by this won't be case for this new game. Now I just have to make sure I remember how to embed properly.
  10. Opting to leave the Eu is like turkeys voting for Christmas. Unless of course you are a member of the rabid far right of the conservatives - who make even Cameron wince. Any subsequent crash would be further fuel to cut welfare and the NHS in their eyes. How bad would the crash be? That would depend upon whether a trade agreement could be reached. You know like the one Norway has where it pays a contribution, agrees to free movement and abides to most EU legistration. Of course the likes of Honda, Nissan and Jaguar just might not wait around to find out. And then there is the city. Ok not everyone favourite business but the fact remains the exporting of financial services is an important part of the UK's GDP. Trade agreement or not London will no longer be able to deal with EU business. It will go from the a city of head offices to satellites offices over night.
  11. What we do in the shadows - 8/10 A low budget fake documentary might have many people reaching for the off button even before it starts but if you like a comedy you might want to try it. I certainly found myself laughing throughout the movie. Not much of a plot just of a lot of deadpan style humour as a film crew follow four vampires who house share in New ZeaIand. If you like Flight of the Concords you will recognize some of the faces.
  12. That would be my recommendation too if I ever downloaded a file which of course I never do.
  13. I know there are a few old gamers out there in TLW so the above words might mean something to a few of you. If it's warm memories rather than shudders you might just be interested in Obsidian's new game Pillars of Eternity. Yes it's a old school isometric RPG in all its glory but made shiny and new. Not everyone's cup of tea I realize. Real time with pause tactical battles isn't for everyone. There is also lots of reading with not a QTE in sight. However if you always wished someone had made a sequel to the Baldur's Gate series than this is it.
  14. Not yet (if ever) on UK TV but I would highly recommend the Agent Carter mini series they were showing in the break.
  15. Interview in the Guardian. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/13/simon-mignolet-liverpool-fiancee-wise-words
  16. Last couple of weeks I have been reading Alastair Reynolds's Revelation Space series. Four books in and I'm impressed but with one reservation. The last book is a bit of a disappointment. However if you would like to see what human advancement into space might look like I would highly recommend it. No faster than light travel, it's more alien than star wars type travel, and it gives an good reason for the lack of alien lifeforms in the universe.
  17. Been playing endless legends all week. Took me a while and a lot of aborted games to understand what was going on(I don't read manuals) but i got it in the end. Not entirely sure what to make of it. On my last game no one attacked me and I dusted myself to victory. Bit boring if I am honest. Switched the latest game to hard and so far it's a bit more of challenge. Though that might be only because my cultist neighbours seem determined to convert my villages and then get upset when I repossess them. Need to play a few more games before coming to a conclusion but it is definitely promising. Personally my favourite strategy game is age of wonders shadow magic. Old game but perfect for playing on a laptop. That's probably one of the best things about strategy games. Most games even when new aren't that graphic intensive. Worst thing about strategy games is often you know you have won long before the game has finished. The early to mid game is always more exciting/challenging.
  18. Single Maggie May Rod Stewart Album Ever Picture Tells a Story Rod Stewart Apparently there was no escape if you crossed the Atlantic either. Same there too.
  19. If you don't fancy cutting then tree tea oil works well. Dab some on at least a couple of times a day and that normally does the trick after a few weeks.
  20. I think that's more than likely. If HBO are true to their intention of wrapping up the story in seven series it can't happen any other way. If, as I expect, the last two book's contents are used for season five, there is a good chance that come July next year when they start to film season 6 they will have no more completed books to work from. Hell, given the rate that Martin works at, season 6 could even premiere before the Winds Of Winter is published.
  21. What Martin actually said was the land beyond the Wall was the size the Canada (which itself is still probably an exaggeration). As there are a lot of known distances mentioned in the books you probably won't be surprised to know that several fans have attempted to scale Westeros and Essos against our own world. Here's one such example. http://rebekahjonesonline.wordpress.com/2013/05/10/a-song-of-ice-and-fire-mapping-westeros-and-essos/
  22. I'm another one who thinks he is a slow passer. He receives the ball, gets his body into position, then passes it. Not a problem when the opposition defend from the half way line back but when they press higher up the pitch this puts undue pressure on the receiver. It's a shame as he looks like a very good defender.
  23. Another thumbs up for The Wolf in Winter. Probably his best Charlie Parker novel for a while. They have been treading water for a while in terms of the over arcing story(to the extent where I was beginning to wonder if it would ever be resolved) and like a lot of long term series with characters whom you love the outcome of the stories have become a little predictable. This time round the background story finally feels like it is moving on and while not drastically surprising, this book did not quite pan out as I was expecting (I'm thinking Charlie here rather than his friends response). For those who like fantasy novels I highly recommend The Garden of Stones by Mark T Barnes. An alien world with a history of ancient empires and a failed human invasion from the stars. Very different from the usual pseudo medieval theme used in a lot of novels. Reminds me a little of the Malazan books. No gods however, though a lot of super powered individuals, no 'grunts' and no convoluted story line with a ridiculous amount of points of views.
  24. When one of your favourite ever bands release a new song not just years but a decade or so after the last one it's always difficult to judge it objectively. I think it is pretty good but see what you think. lGdSYPh5_BI#at=286
  25. If you read the first book again there a whole load of subtle but hints nonetheless that something was amiss with Ned. It's a long time since I have read GOT but I remember coming away with the distinct impression that Ned took a secret to his grave concerning his sister Lyanna. His sister supposedly died from a fever yet Ned remembers it as ‘Lyanna in her bed of blood.’ When he is thinking of the promises he made to a dying Lyanna he also thinks of the price it has cost him to do so. There is also I believe a line about the lies he has been forced to tell for the last 14 years(since the death of Lyanna). Another mystery is why she was found by Ned at the Tower of Joy guarded by several Kingsguards. Rhaegar was already dead at this point and as the name implies they should have been off elsewhere guarding royalty. You take that and couple it with a few other thoughts. He never calls or thinks of Jon as his son only of his blood. When he is facing his last days in the cell he talks of the the shame and sorrow in being unable to tell Jon something. It never amounts to an outright statement but it's in my mind suggestive of Jon's true parentage. One last point to make. Almost all the bad press leveled at Rhaegar comes from Robert. It's in complete contrast to almost every other character who talks of him. If you can't trust Robert's opinion can you also trust his assertion that Rhaegar was a rapist?
