That was the week that was (Oct 12-18 2019)

Saturday Oct 12:

With no footy this weekend all eyes turned to the legends game up at Ibrox. Ok, not all eyes, as I didn’t watch it and I daresay most of you didn’t either. I don’t know what it is, but these games don’t do it for me at all. They used to. I loved seeing all the old boys getting a run out and I’d be as nostalgic as anyone. Something has changed now though. It might be me or it might be the fact that the likes of Babb, Kvarme and Diao are often wheeled out, and no-one wants to see that.

I saw some clips on Twitter of this one and it left me cold. I didn’t like seeing Stevie playing in blue and I didn’t like seeing H*sk*y back playing in red. Ok, I’m half joking there, I’m not really arsed and don’t have any real ill will towards big Emile, but seeing him score did remind me of something I’d completely forgotten. His spinning the decks goal celebration was sooooooo fucking shit. I really hate it.

I said there was no footy, but what I meant was no proper footy. There are plenty of international games going on and Gini bagged another couple of goals for Holland. He seems to score for them every time he plays, but that’s because Big Red Ron uses him as a number ten playing just off the front man.

Gini is such a good all round player he could play anywhere and do a good job. He’s played centre back and centre forward for us, as well as in various midfield roles and out wide. I think he may have played right back once too? Such a good player, but I often feel he isn’t let off the leash enough for us.

Now and again you can tell he’s got licence to just bomb forward and when he does he’s usually devastating. Most of the time though he’s disciplined and safe and just fills gaps to allow others (usually the full backs) to raid forward. A lot of players wouldn’t sacrifice themselves like that, especially when they’re capable of scoring and creating goals, but it just shows what a top lad Gini is. You know what he is? A Dutch James Milner.

Sunday Oct 13:

Firmino is linked with Barca by the Spanish press. They need to replace Suarez and Bobby is obviously the best option out there to replace him. I’m not worried because even though South American players tend to see Real and Barca as the pinnacle, I reckon Bobby might be the exception to that rule. He knows what a good thing he’s got going here, and he’ll also have seen what happened to his mate Phil.

The article was probably bollocks anyway as it said that the other names on the list were Mbappe, Kane, someone I’d never even heard of and, wait for it….. Marcus Rashford. Hahaha fuck off! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying he’s shit, he’s a good player with the potential to be very good. But you don’t replace Luis Suarez with Marcus Rashford and I don’t know how you join those dots from Suarez, Kane, Firmino to Rashford. It’s like saying “I’m replacing the Bentley. I’m trying to decide between a Range Rover, a Jag, a Rolls Royce or a Nissan Quashqai.

Monday Oct 14:

It seems like every internet virgin and their dog is doing combined Liverpool / United XI’s today. It’s boring and pointless, because the simple fact is not a single United player should be anywhere near it. Hell, even Danny Mills can see that and he’s caused a shitstorm by picking eleven Reds in his side. Always liked him. Not really, he’s as big a twat as a pundit as he was as a player, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

The reason I know about this is because I saw “Matip” trending on Twitter and shit myself because I assumed he’d had a setback in his recovery. Turns out it’s because United fans have seen their arses that Mills picked him ahead of old slabhead Maguire. It’s a no brainer, which why even a no brainer like Mills can see it. Matip is fucking boss, but because he didn’t cost £80m it seems like some people still can’t see it.

I’ll tell you something else, Gomez and Lovren should both be in over that Maguire turd too. He’s a good player but nothing special, and the lad who Leicester replaced him with already looks better.

Still, while I find it funny that some people reckon Maguire should be in a combined XI, I don’t find it offensive. It’s not that outlandish a claim, even if it’s wrong. I do find it fucking massively offensive that some are suggesting Pogba is worth a spot though. Get to fuck. I wouldn’t have that cunt anywhere near any team I was picking. I’d take that McTominay jabroni over him because at least he’ll help out his defence and not just stand around preening, shooting from 50 yards and missing penalties.

Pogba looks good about half a dozen times a season, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m worried one of those times will be this Sunday. He’s like Aaron Lennon or Andros Townsend used to be. If you caught them one of their good days they were a right handful, but mostly they were just shit. Like Pogba.

That game on Sunday has me twitchy though. It shouldn’t, because we’re miles better than them. So much so that the gap between the two teams may never have been greater. Maybe I’m being a prisoner of the moment there, as the gap was massive back in the 90s when they had that great side with Cantona, Hughes, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Keane, Ince etc and we were absolute dogshit.  That’s part of why I’m worried though. We’d often play well above ourselves and give them a hell of a game back then (we even stopped them winning the title one year even though we were terrible), and that’s what United fans will be hoping for this weekend.

As shit as they are, and they are REALLY fucking shit, they might raise their game because it’s us. We don’t actually need to raise our game, we just need to not play like we do most years when we go there. 75% would be enough to win comfortably, but we usually go there and play at about 15%.

If we don’t win at Old Trafford this year we may as well just not bother turning up in future. I think we will because last season was such a disappointment that I expect the lads to put that right, as they’ve made a habit of doing that over the last year or two. I thought we’d win last year though and we were fucking hideous, so we’ll see.

Tuesday Oct 15:

England played last night and Trent was left out again. Good. Keep him fresh for Sunday. I’m a bit pissed off Gomez didn’t get a run out though, he could have used the minutes and while I accept that qualifying matches aren’t there for the benefit of helping our players get match sharp, how is Gomez being snubbed for Tyrone Mings?!?!?

International football is fucking weird and shit. It was only a few months ago Gomez was being compared to Bobby Moore and being hailed as the future of England’s defence. Now he’s being overlooked for slapdicks like Keane, Mings and Maguire. It’s so fickle.

Then of course there’s the racism. The game was almost abandoned as the PA had to tell the Bulgarian crowd to stop being racist twats. It feels as though this happens any time there’s a game in Eastern Europe, but it’s a bit rich seeing so many English getting on their high horse about it. This country is as xenophobic as any, they just show it in a different way.

On that note, massive credit to Southgate for acknowledging that and not just slinging mud at the Bulgarians; “Sadly, because of their experiences in our own country, they are hardened to racism,” he said. “I don’t know what that says about our society but that’s the reality”. Well said that man.

UEFA are toothless and will do nothing, as usual, but the real issue here isn’t UEFA. You know what would stop this? The same thing that would stop most of the world’s problems - people just not being cunts. It shouldn’t be too much to ask but sadly it is.

Meanwhile, Pogba is reportedly going to be fit for Sunday despite a problem with his toe. Typical. Martial is set for a return to. Bet Martin Tyler is sat there with his cock out already. Twat.

Wednesday Oct 16:

De Gea limps off playing for Spain and has to be a big doubt for the weekend. If he doesn’t play, it’s great news because even though he’s been mostly shite for 18 months or so, he’s got it in him to be great every now and then and sod’s law says he’ll have a blinder against us this weekend. It would also be a big psychological blow to them, losing one of their most experienced and influential players.

Pogba is now meant to be out again though. This is typical United, they used to do this all the time under Ferguson. Players would be ruled out only to make miraculous recoveries. Expect to see Pogba and Martial both in the squad, and it won’t shock me if De Gea plays too and that tonight was just an elaborate fucking hoax.

Thursday Oct 17:

Oh this is great. Man City are kicking off about the festive fixture list because they have to play twice in 48 hours and we don’t. They actually complained about the “sporting integrity” of the competition being compromised. Man City!! Cheeky twats. How dare they even utter the fucking words “sporting integrity”. What a bunch of cunts. This is like Boris Johnson complaining about the racism from the Bulgaria fans. The sheer hypocrisy of some people never fails to amaze me.

They’ll have been the first ones mocking Klopp when he complained about us having to do the same thing a couple of years back. Remember we drew 2-2 with a horrendous Sunderland side because our lads hadn’t had any time to recover from the last game? No-one had any sympathy for us then.

Besides, we might have an extra 24 hours or so to prepare for the Christmas games, but we’re also having to play in the World Club Cup, so our fixture load is far worse anyway. City being victims, as usual.

You know what I hope? That by the time those games are played they’ve fallen so far behind us that it’s not our fixtures they should be worried about, but those of the clubs battling for the top four.

Meanwhile, Emre Can is being linked with United. Well it makes sense, as they’re probably the only club in Europe that would match the stupid money he’s on at Juve. I’d rather he didn’t go there as I have no hard feelings towards him and would like to keep it that way, but from a purely footballing perspective I don’t think it would impact us in the least.

He’s good, but he’s not that good. He’d improve United’s midfield, but so would 75% of the midfielders currently playing in the PL.

Friday Oct 18:

Sadio has spoken about what happened in the dressing room after his outburst at Burnley, and says everyone was taking the piss out of him and Mo. He also says Mo reckons he didn’t see him, which is bollocks but he’s hardly going to say “Yeah I saw you, but I wanted to score myself because I want the Golden Boot”.

He explained: “Mo Salah asked me why I was angry, I said because we wanted to score more goals for the team. He said he has nothing against me, and I know that. We talk on the phone sometimes, we text each other and we don’t have a problem. So we talked, and everything was like before.

“We talked between ourselves, and then the manager called me into his office and we spoke. I told him it was already sorted and he was pleasantly surprised.”

He’s great isn't he? Just a really top lad. Have a read of this: “I am happy I can give back. I help people, I prefer to build schools and give food and clothes to poor people. Why do I want 10 Ferraris 20 watches with diamonds and two planes, what would that do for the world. I went hungry, worked in a field, played barefoot and did not go to school. Today I can help people.”

Sadio is now getting a bit of traction in the Ballon d’Or race too. I don’t think he’ll win but there’s a bit of momentum building for him. Fabregas called him one of the best three players in the world, and this week Messi said “He’s so talented, he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.” Thiago Silva was also on the bandwagon, saying “He’s world class, almost perfect, he deserves to be in the discussion for the Ballon d’Or.”

Today Arsene Wenger added his voice to the campaign. It’d be ace if he won it like, but Messi will get it won’t he?

New deal for Big Bird. Well deserved, he’s been fucking sensational in 2019 and is one of the best centre backs in Europe now. I expect he’ll come straight back into the side for Sunday now that he’s fit again, and with Alisson back as well that puts us at full strength (assuming Mo is ok). No excuses for not wiping the floor with these bums now.

…..and that was the week that was

They’re all snidey disingenuous twats Dave they just want to split the Van Dijk vote.  The mancs were clearly playing games with all these in and out injury news stories.  The funny thing is it doesn’t make a bit of difference.  We try to play the same way every game regardless anyway and you knew they were going to go for some form of long ball shithouse 5 at the back tactics.

"I didn’t like seeing H*sk*y back playing in red"

His goal against Rangers reminded me a bit like the one he scored against Bayern in the Super Cup in 2001. He was my favourite Liverpool player in the treble season - I remember him smashing in goals for fun - like the goal against Leeds in the FA cup at Elland Road (I hated Leeds and David O'Leary). Not sure why it went downhill from there - he could have been our Drogba.

That’s what wound me up about him one week he’d bully defenders score goals and look unplayable next couple of weeks he’d be shite.

Rio Ferdinand spoke about chatting to him before matches in the tunnel asking about his family being nice etc. He was saying it worked to make sure you were playing against a “nice” Heskey instead of an angry one. In fairness to Ferdinand that’s pretty clever.

Heskey would always be angry when he played against Chelsea for some reason. He'd end up in a war with their centre backs and I loved watching that version of him as he was unplayable.

80% of the time though he was a pussy cat.

Could have been a truly great player but just didn't have it in him to do it every week.

Barca need to realise they need to replace Suarez with Ricky Lambert first.

and Mario, don't forget Mario.

Even though I'm sure we'd all love to.
