PODCAST: Liverpool 2 Napoli 0 - Match Reaction

Another goal for Darwin, another record for Mo and a good solid 2-0 win for the Reds to avenge their defeat in the opening match of the group.

TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Julian Richards and Terry McDonald for a long and meandering chat that didn't really focus a great deal on what was a fairly low key, one might even say dull game overall. While the main talking points are covered, a whole lot of tangents were also taken with topics ranging from crooked NBA refs to Conor Coady not understanding how to use apostrophes. This one's a bit of a roller coaster!

The 2022/23 UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw is scheduled for 12:00 CET on Monday 7 November at the.....

Saw that this morning when I watched Klopp's presser. At least I prefaced what I said with "we're often wrong about this stuff because none of us other than Chris do any research" so I think I'm covered!

It's good though as it gives us a bit more to talk about one the post league cup game pod.

You'll have enough to talk about when my boy Trent Doherty scores a brace.

He's at least two years away from getting a first team game I reckon. Looks about 12!

I was a lot more positive about the Napoli game than the pod team!

I honestly feel that it was the best we have played this season.  At its peak, the City performance was better, but there were too many sections of wildness and risk during that game.

I get the "no jeopardy" argument with regards to Napoli, which did play a part, but they're a top team and their body language at the end also said something - they were gutted by the defeat (though again, I know the manner of the defeat probably played a small part in that).  But they were knackered.  They were second best.

I am actually optimistic based on that performance.  Things can get better.

Anyway, I laughed out loud at Terry hovering over the hot water.  We've all been there.  Just maybe not whilst perching a laptop on the edge of the bath and wearing a good luck LFC bobble hat.

Up the Red Men.

Totally agree. With the way most of our supporters are bleating on about how bad We are defensively, it’s a bit strange to see  how little focus there is on how well we nullified a free-scoring Napoli team’s strengths.

The reverting to 4-3-3 was a big factor in that, as our front players shut their passing lanes much better than in previous weeks. Thought Curtis did a god job defensively as well as keeping the ball with his back to goal. Hopefully we’re done tinkering with the formation now, and our focus goes back to form and execution.

I’d be comfortable with the same team on Tuesday. Keep it tight defensively and keep the ball as much as possible. As of now I think Darwin is much better suited to being an impact player off the bench when the game opens up a bit. Then he can run at defenders and cause them problems with his pace and directness, as well as contributing on set pieces. A weeks rest should be enough to see a similar effort Sunday afternoon.

Good listen, well done on getting this recorded in the midst of the website issues!
