  1. I'll have to start keeping an eye on that. Looks like they've done very well over the last few weeks. Certainly better than I have.
  2. They've been second best in virtually every game I've seen them in this season. People can say all they like about how they can't be all that bad if they keep winning but teams always seem to miss chances against them they stick away against other teams. I saw the last half hour or so of the City game and City were pretty poor but it looked like it would finish nil nil at worst then Swansea had one chance and scored. Can absolutely guarantee they would have missed the same chance against United.
  3. Certainly looking like another title for United. Unbelievable really as City have better players in every single department. Seriously got to question Mancini as manager if he can't win the league this year when everyone else has been so poor.
  4. Thought they were going to do it at half time. Backed them just to win anyway and Van Persie as an any time goalscorer so it was nice to have 2 bets wrapped up by half time for a change. There's always one that lets you down on an accumulator isn't there? I always do an over 1.5 accumulator if there are loads of games on. Most games do get at least 2 goals. The individual odds are shite but if you put loads in it can lead to a decent pay out and it adds a bit of interest watching the results come in. Funnily enough though the only one I've had come in recently was on the same weekend you were talking about. Had about half a dozen fall one goal short since - one the other week was particularly annoying with every game settled with half an hour remaining except one which needed just one more goal and it just stayed 1-0. Read the match report later and there were apparently loads of missed chances near the end too. Did 14 games tonight and 12 came in. Doesn't seem to matter how many I do though. Cut the number down and I still fall just short
  5. Not sure about how the BBC covered it because I didn't see Match of The Day but Sky clearly wanted to make a big story of it. They were still showing replays of it in the second half. When have they ever done that before - especially when the penalty was missed anyway. Compare that to their fairly casual assessment of the Bale penalty the week before (which was a much clearer dive). Suarez is maybe no saint but he's no worst than most other players and nowhere near as bad as some and I'm sick of him getting slaughetered for things other players do every single week.
  6. Sorry should have been clearer. Just a win by a goal or two on the night to salvage a bit of pride. Don't think they have a hope in hell of going through. Haven't looked on the odds for them to qualify - imagine they would be huge.
  7. We've also just managed to win the league cup. Hodgson got us knocked out in the first round at home by Northampton Town. It's been a disappointing league season but the football's been decent at times while I can guarantee the results and performances under Hodgson would both have been crap.
  8. Had a very mixed weekend with a horrible Saturday where everyone I bet on seemed to throw away 2 goal leads at home against shit teams (Birmingham against Derby, Sheff Utd against Oldham and Lille against Auxerre) and then a decent Sunday where I had over 3.5 goals on Spurs-United (thanks very much Defoe - I was getting seriously annoyed with Spurs in the last 20 minutes at their seemingly complete lack of interest in trying to get a consoltaion goal) and then a few bets on Real Madrid which were all based on them scoring loads of goals so thankfully they did the job. Would have given it a rest in midweek if those had gone badly but I can keep going now. Also quite fancy Arsenal and Benfica. There are some nice looking fixtures in the football league as well on Tuesday night so might have a closer look at those.
  9. Good report of the match Dave and I agree with pretty much all of it. I thought at the start of the season it would only be a matter of time before we started putting the chances away but it just hasn't happened and all the missed chances seem to have created an anxiety in every squad player in front of goal to the extent that I never really feel confident it will be tucked away whoever a good chance falls to. The penalty misses are getting beyond a joke now. The most annoying thing is they're being missed by players who never seem to have had any problems scoring them in the past. Has kuyt ever missed a penalty for us before this season? Adam was reliable from the spot for Blackpool last season. Even with Suarez I'm not sure he's ever been a regular penalty taker for his clubs in the past but I saw him take one in a shootout for Uruguay in the Copa America where he calmly put it in right in the top corner with an ease that suggesterd he could do exactly the same thing 99 times out of 100 - compare that with the 2 awful penalties he's had for us.
  10. Skrtel Spearing Suarez Henderson had a pretty decent game and so did Kuyt apart from the penalty miss.
  11. Well it was a very disappointing result but some of the reactions on here have been completely over the top. It was a decent performance with the same old problem of not being able to put the ball in the net and unfortunately that's rather an important part of football. This side could go either way at the moment. The performances have certainly been there this season but the results haven't matched and either they start to do so or some of these players will have to be binned and it will be yet another rebuilding job. That's us out of the race for fourth now. Even a draw wouldn't have been much use and the defeat definitely finishes us off I should think. Got to start getting a few wins or we could end up with an embarrassing league position where we remain below Newcastle and the likes of Sunderland and Stoke move above us. There's still the FA cup but that would seem to be about all we've got to really go for now.
  12. I'd forgot all about that chance to send Bellamy clear but yeah we were 2-1 up at the time and it could have just wrapped things up nice and easily. Still we don't seem to like doing things the easy way do we? It was only when watching the highlights of the game again later on that night that I realised just how close that Kenny Miller shot at the end was to going in and how close we were to losing that final. Still it all turned out okay in the end. We won the cup and that's all that really matters.
  13. Skrtel Downing Kuyt Honourable mention to Johnson who had a decent game and cooly put away the final penalty when the pressure must have been huge.
  14. Had a poor game today and seems to be having a poor patch overall but I still think there's potential there. Shouldn't be a first team regular yet and right midfield clearly isn't the position for him.
  15. There seems to be a law that every team I bet on goes two goals up then completely collapses. Normally if I back a team to win they race into a two goal lead and then draw 2-2. Backed Spurs on draw no bet just before the game and at two nil I thought even I couldn't lose any money and then they end up having an even more spectacular collapse. For all the talk of how amazing this Spurs team is they still haven't won any trophies and they probably never will if they're capable of doing that - especially against the shittest Arsenal team I've ever seen.
  16. Made up with that. I always fancied us in the past when it went to penalties but that certainly wasn't the case today with all the ones we've missed this season and when Adam skied it over the bar I thought it was all but over. Fair play to all the players who held their nerve after that. Thought we probably just about deserved to win it. Wasn't a great performance but as usual we weren't exactly short of chances. It's only the league cup but it's a trophy and we haven't won any for a long time so don't really understand how anyone can not be excited about winning it. Hopefully we can add the FA cup to it and finish fourth too.
  17. Already looking forward to a game that should be just about the football after all the shite at the weekend and hopefully it will be a nice comfortable win. There's a nice gap between this and the league cup final so I wouldn't want to see us take too many risks with the team selection - the starting 11 in the first post looked pretty decent to me. If we establish a comfortable lead it would be nice to see Shelvey get a bit of time on the pitch.
  18. It's not a bad lot of fixtures for us but we've dropped so many stupid points this season that it's hard to have any great faith in us doing it. We'll probably win the games gainst Arsenal and Chelsea and drop points against Wigan and Blackburn. It'll be frustrating if we miss out considering how bad Arsenal and Chelsea have been and surely they won't be this bad again next season but I think I could live with it if we won a cup or two.
  19. He's a world class player and even with 40 million I don't think we'd find anyone as good to replace him with. I wouldn't blame him for wanting to leave after all that's happened but hopefully he appreciates how Dalglish, his teammates and the supporters have stuck up for him and will use this as motivation to do great things for us.
  20. Good report Dave and it's the only one I'll be bothering to read about the match or indeed the non-handshake as I can't believe the amount of fuss kicked up about it or how yet again Evra has come out of this being portrayed as a hero. I kept thinking all week please just don't lose this game and five minutes into the second half I was just completely livid with yet another Old Trafford collapse. Poor team selection and a poor performance. I must admit I completely gave up on Downing after his completely gutless performance in the league defeat at Manchester City and if anything this was even worst and I'm always disappointed if I see his name on the teamsheet these days.
  21. The BBC haven't been much better. Was watching their version of Soccer Saturday with Garth Crooks and Steve Claridge seemingly having a contest to see who could talk the most shite. They seemed to spend most of the programme going on about the handshake rather than the games actually being played t 3 o clock. Constantly had reminders of the scoreline as well. When we beat them in the cup a couple of weeks back I think it was about 45 minutes before I even heard any mention we had beat United - it obviously didn't suit their agenda that Evra was on the losing side that day or indeed fucked up for the winning goal.
  22. Couldn't care less if Suarez didn't shake hands because he thought Evra was about to refuse or because it was his intention all along. The handshake would have been a completely meaningless gesture and would have resolved absolutely nothing. As usual the media have gone completely overboard and I've not read one comment from a journalist or heard one comment from a tv pundit condemning Evra for kicking off a brawl in the tunnel at half time or making a point of celebrating right in front of Suarez at the end. Can Suarez be charged for not shaking Evra's hand? Will it sounds like a stupid suggestion but nothing would surprise me any more. The only good thing about today is we won't have to face that vile shower again this season. A new low from Ferguson today in suggesting Suarez should never play for us again. Thought Phil Dowd did a good job today of trying to diffuse things and it looked to me like he was more annoyed with the way Evra was acting than Suarez. plenty of other refs would have loved to have found an excuse to send Suarez off today. Can the players now please use this to spur themselves on to do better on the pitch.
  23. Competely pissed off with that performance. The best chance of beating United is to go for it against them and if we'd lost that way I wouldn't have minded so much. Instead we just play negatively and get beat anyway. The goal we scored showed just how poor they are at the back but we just weren't prepared to have a go. Shame some of the players didn't show as much fight on the pitch as it sounds like they did in the tunnel at half time. Adam did well when he came on and Johnson, Reina, Skrtel and Agger all had decentish games but I'm not sure anyone else comes out of it with much credit. Even Gerrad was seriously poor and went missing as much as anyone at the start of the second half (also thought he wasted a great chance to set up a goal in the first minute when Evra took Ferdinand out, he had Kuyt and Suarez to aim at and only one United defender covering and completely messed it up). Downing contributed absolutely nothing again and simply isn't good enough. Thought we were gonna get hammered the way the second half started so at least that didn't happen but even when we scored there didn't seem to be any belief in the side we could grab an equaliser.
  24. Frustrating game. It was the same old story of just not being good enough in the final third. We worked the ball into some great crossing positions on a number of occasions and time after time the ball into the box was really poor. We missed Enrique and although Johnson did a good job defensively he's far less effective getting forward on the left as he constantly has to turn infield to get the ball onto his right foot. Spurs defended well and Dawson had an excellent game but we were just too predictable a lot of the time. On the plus side Carroll is starting to actually resemble a footballer and Suarez is finally back. Bale and Parker really did my head in tonight as did the commentator's constant fawning all over them.
