Frightening to think that without his most recent contract extension, Klopp would have been off at the end of this season. Though transfers have been a lot more patchy than they were during the golden period of he and Edwards working in unison, I’m glad he’ll be the one making the final call on what to do ultimately to replace Mo. He was spot on around the Coutinho move, he’ll have a plan in mind if this happens and it could end up being a similar fork in the road for the new team he’s building, if Mo pushes to leave or we just decide the bid becomes too good for someone who’ll inevitably decline sharply in the coming years and is out of contract in 18 months. Our business model isn’t going to give him another massive contract of several years and let him get old on club record wages, and he knows his value elsewhere as we saw during the last contract dispute, with talk of free transfers and being open to staying in England. In many ways the Saudis are only accelerating an issue which was coming down the pipe in the not too distant anyway. Not saying I want it to happen, I don’t.
