When I watch the game in my local this fella turns up to all the big games in his brand new shirt with his mates who aren't into football and sits in the middle of the boozer,singing at the top of his voice and getting every song wrong..... including YNWA. His mates look at him all starry eyed like he's somekind of super-fan. he even sings 'Fernando Torres Liverpool's no.9' then hums the rest of the entire song, singing out random words he knows like 'armband'.

I agree, we could try and loan him to the Bitters, although he may 'do a Tiago' on us. I reckon Bill told him he had to pay subs every week and wash his own kit.

The reception he gets is similar to Igor IMO. It's a kind of ironic cheer with a bit of sniggering. The long and short of it is that he's not good enough and he can't be blamed for that. That said, I always got the impression Igor knew he wasn't good enough and was just making the most of it, whereas this fella seems to think he's something more than the journeyman that he is and it's just that we don't appreciate quite how good he is. He's an average player that has somehow ended up playing for the best club in the World, therefore the only way he could endear himself with the fans is with 110% effort, a team ethic and a bit of humility, and sadly that's where he lets himself down.

Word of the chanting last night is bound to get back to Stadler and Waldorf, and if they have refused to back Rafa, they're going to feel entirely justified. Next time Rafa goes cap in hand to ask for backing for someone who for whatever reason they don't like the sound of, they're now going to be more inclined to tell him to forget it. If I was MON I'd be straight on the phone to Barry this morning making sure he knew what was sung last night.

Was made up with support for Xabi but disappointed with the Gareth Barry chants, they were getting booed but was like they were attacking Rafa in one breath before singing 'Rafa Benitez' in next. Very bizzare.

I was delighted when the Juve deal didn't happen as thought we would keep Xabi, not buy Barry and spend the cash elsewhere, where in my opinion we are lacking, rather than in the centre of midfield. I appreciate the argument that he will give us more balance, however, I think this is negated as we're still going to have someone playing in the attacking left position who's right footed, or he'll play Barry there out of position. Xabi exudes class both on and off the field. Barry is a very good player but does not have the potential to be World Class. Xabi does. Barry has 4 years left at the top of his game. Alonso has six. I could understand it if we were selling Xabi to get Barry and make some cash to put towards new signings, and I think that that was the intention when the move for Barry was first mooted, however, it seems that Rafa has developped tunnel-vision with this transer and now it seems that now he is deterined to get him whatever. Notwithstanding the above, Rafa obviously has a plan. He won number 5 with no more than an average side and for that reason I trust his judgment. I also think the criticism of MON is harsh. He's simply acting in the interests of his club and no doubt showing Young and his other big players that they will fight tooth and nail to keep them.

I would keep him. He's not a World beater, nor is he going to start too often, but he's worthy of a place in the squad and can do a job if needs be. Manure did the double with Fletcher in the squad and they're of similar ability IMO. It's ridiculous and unrealistic to be wanting a team of 'Galacticos'. I agree we need one or two World class palyers, and need to fund them by selling, but we also need to retain a useful squad for injuries/settling in periods/league cup etc.

Couldn't disagree more. Over the Summer I've been smuggly proud of the lads Rafa has bought in. Look at Lampard, Drogba, Adebayour and Ronaldo, as soon as it gets to silly season they're busy flirting with 'the big clubs' in Italy and Spain, showing complete arrogance and disregard to the clubs and fans who pay their wages. None of our lads have said a word about moving elsewhere. Even those who are linked with moves away keep their Counsel and say nothing. Look at Reina who only got a token game in the Euros and was still leading the celebrations after every goal. I think the fact that there's not been one thread on here when a player is saying he wants to leave is testement to the fact that they have "the right mentatlity". -

That was disgusting. You could see that he's thought about it beforehand by covering what he was saying with his sleave. No doubt will live to regret that when the chief steams into him next year and Nando laughs, helps him up and gives him a playful slap round the chops again. He fucking hates that he can't wind Nando up. He's a Disgrace. Would also like to think Capello's picked up on it which is why has taken the armband off him.
