  1. I don't really have a massive problem with him and his transfer tidbits per se. I find it more irritating that he's got a hell of a spin machine behind him that ignores all his flaws - no, actually somehow turns them into positives. I think that's because he's an affable cockney bloke, who's good for a quote and speculates about players, making the hack's jobs easier. We've our own affable cockney in charge now, maybe we'll see a different attitude towards us from the media? My biggest problem with him is his associations with the s*n, and not just writing for them but appearing in half their adverts as a face for them. As T0RRES says, he should know better. He's not just got family ties to the club in that his son was on our books for 3 years or something. He captained the club, and as such 'Arry should know a bit better.
  2. I don't think it's that some people are never happy. I think we've just become cynical and accustomed to bad news.
  3. Can't disagree with those who say he's not worth it. He's on obscene wages at City, and he definitely isn't worth matching them (nor can we), and I suspect he wouldn't really come down from them (nor is he worth the bother of trying).
  4. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that his thick Marseille accent made his philosophising sound ludicrous in his native tongue. A bit like Gazza or someone. But he comes over here and a few newly-into football media types go "ooh! Listen to his accent! He's so cool! And wise, too!" And the French mocked us.
  5. I've never particularly rated Parker as anything more than a pretty good player. But last season he was outstanding, I can't deny him that. I'd personally rather look at Toulalan (assuming Aulas doesn't charge top, top, top dollar like he normally does for his prize assets) or Defour - he's really impressed me in the (admittedly few) games I've seen him in.
  6. If you want any Roy Hodgson tie and blazer badge combination packs, they're available afterwards.
  7. Just had a look on the Mail website for that and came across this "story": Fernando Torres quickly ditches Liverpool scarf to show true colours on World Cup victory parade | Mail Online Torres wore an Atleti scarf when they had the victory parade the next day. Apparently this means he'll wear anything and that Chelsea will sign him. This gang of nazi sympathisers have had it in for us for ages - they're fucking desperate for him to go to London. Shower of cunts. Tory government in place - find a new toy to kick.
  8. I was initially against the idea of selling him - I like him, not really sure why, maybe I just think he'll improve. But £5m is a good price for a 2nd choice and we're not really in a position to turn that kind of money down for reserves.
  9. Never a truer word spoken. He's the definition of irrelevance.
  10. If we sell him for £3m, then replace him with Scharner, all teams in the Premiership will have at least one CM better than Scharner, and most will have two. Some will have under-18s better. Selling Lucas for less than half of what we paid for him off the back of a progressive season for the lad is utter madness. I can understand the viewpoint that he's not a brilliant player and we should be in the market for better, but in our sell-to-buy (or worse) situation, who the hell are we going to get instead? And I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Aston Villa wasn't his finest 90 minutes!
  11. I'd hang up as soon as I heard them on the phone, put my out of office on everytime they e-mailed, unplug the fax machine everytime they faxed, issue a statement telling them to cunt to fuck everytime they released a press offering like this. I fucking despise that club.
  12. OK, so you've reiterated that you don't rate Lucas. Where's this alphabetical list of players to improve on him for less?
  13. No matter what one thinks of Insua, non-footballing people shouldn't be making decisions about his Anfield future.
  14. I enjoyed it. But I always do, I love the occasion. I woke this morning knowing there isn't another month of football saturation until June/July 2012. This is a bad thing.
  15. Forlan was brilliant all tournament. If he had a bit more pace he would be a complete centre forward. He can play as a target man, in a playmaker role, he works the channels, has excellent technique, can shoot from range and takes a mean free kick! To cap it all off he, as mentioned, plays the game in the right spirit and didn't court any controversey all tournament. Thought the BBC were a disgrace damning him with faint praise to be honest - they jumped on the Spain bandwagon quite late I seem to remember but made out that they've been rooting for them all tournament and they're the greatest players of all time.
  16. Casillas was excellent in the final, to be fair to him. That save from Robben was excellent. As an aside, Steckelenburg was also excellent.
  17. Kind of agree. The Dutch have been utterly vilified but I saw a heavy, physical side trying to press and intimidate a superb technical side, rather than a snidey, snarling side who've played like that every game (Mark van Bommel aside!). If the English had played like that in the final against Spain it would have been deemed a necessary evil. Also, the Spanish habit of card-waving after every tackle leaves a pretty sour taste in the mouth. Also, heard Stevenson and Waddle having a go at the Dutch players mouthing off at the referee. You've just lost the World Cup final in the dying minutes after a passage of play that saw you denied a corner and a free kick which would have prevented the goalscoring opportunity. Anyone would be livid in such a situation. I'm not going to say the Dutch were fantastic and deserved to win - far from it. De Jong's "tackle" on Alonso was awful (although more foolish than cynical in my opinion). They were aggressive and as much as they created some good opportunities, they were 2nd best. One thing Hansen said that I agreed with though. If this victory gets more kids trying to play like Alonso, Xavi and Iniesta, then that can only be a good thing.
  18. Pepe. But as has been said, Casillas is the captain and you can't really drop him, especially since there's not a great deal between the two (although as I say, think Pepe's better personally).
  19. There's not a lot between them, thesedays. I think they're all good defenders, but I don't think we can lay claim to having a top-quality centre back at the moment.
  20. It was fair enough Clive. He was onside!
  21. I actually think van Persie is the weak link in this game. He's not really done anything of note up front by himself.
  22. Clive is getting right on my tits. The Dutch aren't playing well but you'd think they'd shipped 4 goals the way he's going on. 13 wins from 13 competitive fixtures since the last major tournament is apparently uninspiring.
  23. Forlan seems to have benefitted from ropey goalkeeping this tournament. Good player though.
