  1. His appalling attitude and persona is enough reason to be glad we didn't sign him. It's been obvious for years that Rafa saw through him long ago and that he wouldn't ever be coming back here. Thank fuck.
  2. I wonder how it made him feel to see the Torres shirt. Torres is everything Owen wishes he could be, he's tasted the success, the one thing that has driven Owen's career - international glory - he's experienced. He's scored a winner in a massive international final, something that England's Michael Owen will never do. To reiterate, the one thing Owen really wanted but can now never, ever, ever experience during his tenure on this mortal coil, Fernando Torres has and will forever have. He's etched into the record books as the man who scored the goal which brought Spain the European Championship. He's also a better finisher than Owen was, more beloved by his fans than Owen is and will ever be, less inclined to blow his wad at the bookies alongside piss-drenched middle aged men with liver problems than Owen will ever be and, just to rub it in, is also far better looking and will make far more money from his career than Owen will.
  3. One hilarious thing is that he's referred to as "England striker" and "England international" without 'former' attached to it by the likes of the BBC and Sky. Preposterous.
  4. Whoever they bring in, he's not necessarily going to be able to do what Ronaldo did, and even if he theoretically could, there's no guarantee that it would happen overnight or indeed over the course of a season. Aguero, Ribery et al are good players but they bring no guarantees with regards to their adaptation into the Premiership. Even when disinterested, Ronaldo's unique physical blend of pace, power and utter cuntishness made opposition defences fall to the floor at first glance. Let's be clear: Ronaldo was the figurehead of that team, he made them tick, he bailed them out and they revolved around his style of play. Ferguson has lost the likes of Beckham & Cantona in the past but Ronaldo is MUCH better than any of them, playing in a team which is all-in-all much weaker than those patronised by the other two and - crucially - he's at the peak of his career. He's in his prime.
  5. Of course Baros is more of a Liverpool legend than Owen - He scored goals in our successful European Cup campaign and said trophy is worth about fifty six times the haul we reeled in during Owen's tenure. It's not rocket science, Owen is a pathetic player, 8 years removed from what one could reasonably refer to as his "prime" whereas Baros can boast of being the frontman in a Liverpool side which reaped the reward of the most prestigious piece of silverware in world football.
  6. I do consider his personality odious. It's 'England's Michael Owen' all the way. He has the loyalty of Benedict Arnold and the morality of Bernie Madoff. He is an entirely unlikeable individual and an abject failure at his biggest ambition, which is to shoot England to World Cup glory. He's never been at a club which has mounted a serious challenge for one of the big two honours and I dare say he never will be, unless there are a couple of massive rabbits to be extracted from Ferguson's hat over the next month or so. Nah, it would be a wonderful sight. It would only be a minor physical injury in the grand scheme of things and he'd have his millions to retire on. Well, he would have until he'd blown them all at the bookies fifteen years laters.
  7. Fuck off with any animosity towards Rafa. A player with Owen's history who will sign for the Mancs is the scumbag that everyone knew he was. I said after 2005's debacle that he would NEVER be coming back here, that Rafa wouldn't even consider it due to his odious personality and so it proved. Not even a hint of interest, and it's all for the best. Michael Owen is a despicable person.
  8. Indeed. But it would still be delicious - beautiful, infact - to see him suffer an injury along the lines of Mabbutt circa 1993 or Cisse 2004. Unlike those two, he'd actually deserve it. And let's not forget... Owen leaves Liverpool... Liverpool win the European Cup the following season... Owen joins Real Madrid... Real Madrid win fuck all of importance... Owen leaves Real Madrid... Three seasons later, they're celebrating having won two out of the last three league titles. Owen joins Newcastle... Four seasons later, they're mourning their passing from the Premiership. Buy Michael Owen and wave any shot at the big two trophies goodbye. And sometimes worse...! :)
  9. I think Rafa would be too busy chuckling about a Utd front line of Berbatov, Owen, Rooney & Valencia vs last year's Berbatov, Tevez, Rooney & Ronaldo. Unless they make a couple of massive signings, it's effectively a concession that they don't intend to seriously contest the title next season.
  10. Cool. But as someone who used to buy PES immediately on release day for years and years...it's really gone to seed over the last three or four iterations. A distinct second best nowadays, ever since Konami tried to turn it into something resembling a pinball simulation. Well, it is on PS3/360 anyway...The PS2/Wii version is as great as PES ever was.
  11. Indeed. A year of Xabi Alonso's contract and I'm set up very, very comfortably for the rest of my life. But still, it must be tough to have a take-home wage of only 40k per week. :( ;)
  12. Torres - "When you are a top player, you will get a good contract. You should not be scared to lose a little bit of money" Alonso - "I'm slipping below the breadline now that the tax rate has increased, and I'm not happy about it" Interesting contrast.
  13. If Ronaldo - who wanted to leave United a year ago and was massively unhappy to remain for the additional season - can fetch 80m, then Torres, recent contract extension and all, would (after 'major rival' tax has been added) have to fetch a minimum of £120m.
  14. This is fucking ridiculous. I'm done with football if it isn't sorted properly - I refuse make any sort of contribution to a game in which two Cunts can waltz in, siphon funds from and ultimately destroy a club like ours. Peter Ridsdale must raise a wry smile whenever he reads about them. If they get their way, Mike Ashley will be able to do the same. David Moores and Rick Parry are despicable for allowing this.
  15. No way. They have Middlesbrough away after that, less than three days after a trip to Arsenal in the CL. If they were to slip up in that one it's easily back on, especially if said slip happened to be a loss - They are an extremely tired team and it's more likely that they'd lose in a fixture which arrives at the end of the period of congestion. I think that's more likely than Spurs taking anything, to be honest.
  16. If the letter of the law were applied, Fabregas should have been sent off last night. It wasn't even a hard decision to make and the official should be punished for failing to pull off such a straightforward task.
  17. At home against an injury ravaged Arsenal, we can win without Gerrard. We beat a better Man Utd team earlier this season minus he and Torres for the majority of the game. We went to Stamford Bridge a few days ago and dominated a better team than Arsenal less Gerrard.
  18. The pull Ferguson has over fellow managers is very interesting, and I wonder how many league titles it's won them - I'd wager that they would be at least six down on their present total if it wasn't for his "friends" in the game and even the staunchest of Man Utd supporters would find themselves pondering such a scenario if they really thought about it. Of which the majority are sadly incapable. It's not just that teams shit themselves when playing against an average looking Manchester United team - There must be more to it than that, and it's a shame our football league authorities aren't as honest and brave as their Italian counterparts.
  19. Fantastic stuff. Hiddink sent his team out in typically snide fashion - To win via the art of diving, and he loses any respect I had for him for that.

  21. To be fair to Dowd, he wouldn't have been allowed to be involved in any big league games for the next few years if he hadn't bowed to Ferguson's demands by not mentioning Rooney's abuse.
  22. Rafa only called them a "smaller" club, too. Moyes has been far more damning of their stature in his assessment.
  23. I think that he'll perform equivalently to, say, Shevchenko did in his first season, albeit at a considerably reduced cost. Similar age, similar lack of experience of English football. Deco's mentality might actually be inferior though, so perhaps he won't scale such heights.
  24. Nope. But if he ends up being our 'Carrick' next season in how he aids our Premiership cause, I'd happily sell him for 3p in five years' time.
