I really dont think Benitez will be given less than 3 years to bring home the title. The owners wants success but know both filth and the chavs have a huge head start over us. More than anything, we need the 'winning mentality' which will see us getting those points that normally slip away from us during a season.

One has to ask has Benitez missed the opportunity to delevlop his striker partnership? TBH on form so far I'd have to say Vorinin and because of the money paid, Torres would be my suggestion. But, it looks like we are going to be experimenting once again during the actual PL season before we know, if ever!

Ask them if they remember being beaten by second division Southampton in the FA Cup Final. Look Im a great exponent of having a settled side and playing your best 11 week in week out. But I accept that for the League Cup (which I always maintain PL clubs shouldnt enter) you can put a changed side out. During the course of a season, you can change the team for suspensions, injuries and loss of form but, I think the extent to which Benitez changes the side, especially in the PL, makes a sustained challenge difficult to say the least. Small changes maybe, wholesale changes like in the past, no.

I think our finishing was woeful today. As I've said before Kuyt just isnt quick enough in the PL for a striker. He had at least 2 very good chances he should have scored from but needed either too much time or an extra touch. Torres in contrast looked a lot sharper and I can see him being our top scorer if he plays often enough with the service. Dont understand why Crouch didnt get part of the game either unless Benitez is waiting for the right offer to come in for him. The penalties where a disappointment. Why Benayoun took one when Jay was on the pitch I dont know. Its pre season and not too much to be dispondent about but the finishing is a worry. Lets hope it improves considerably.

But he's right in saying filth would have beaten portsmouth by 3 or 4. Our finishing never seems to improve. Kuyt works tirelessly but he's too slow when a chance comes along. Torres looks like he will find the net regularly when he's match fit. The trouble with too many of us is we fail to recognise our own deficiencies and instead go on about what th elikes of merson says.

Loved being in goal especially when it was wet! Meant you didnt have to try and catch the ball so much and could go for the 'flick around the post' type save. Plus the ground on park pitches were softer after some rain instead of being bone jarringly hard whenever you hit the deck.

What I find amazing is that sherringham was able to play in and for a premiership side up to age 40 yet no one in the prem wanted Robbie.

It never ceased to amaze me that everytime you saw the mancs on tv, in the background you'd see loads of sponsors names yet at Liverpool all you could see was Carlsberg, Adidas and the Prem League! Parry and moores should hang their heads in shame at the way this club's revenue was not grown beyond that of an average PL club. Hopefully that may change although looking at the guys cv, a lot of his work seems to involve the Far East.
